Welcome to the UK's largest Cycle Store. We stock one of the UK's biggest selections of bikes from 15 of the world’s best brands like Trek, Cannondale, Cube, Focus, Whyte, Yeti and Frog to name but a few. Plus, the very best in clothing and equipment to help you enjoy the ride.

Today we are Wheelbase.co.uk, Wheelbase Lake District, Wheelbase Darlington and Wheelbase Yorkshire. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and friendly store for everyone who loves cycling, whether that be road cycling, mountain biking, touring, commuting, family riding or e-Bikes.

We are a team united by a passion for bikes and we have a wide range of cycling experience amongst our sales staff, mechanics and mail order team.

Our passion for cycling is invested back into the sport through the sponsorship and support of our British Elite road race team Wheelbase CabTech Castelli.

Now in its 12th year, we hold our annual MTB demo weekend in April, attracting up to 250 riders to our Lake District store, often in spite of the wet Cumbrian weather. We have a great community of cyclists here in the Lake District and there are plenty of events going on throughout the year, including the 3 Valley Challenge in June, our Tour de Staveley in July and the Wheelbase Spring Classic in March. We offer backing to local organisations where possible and are great supporters of Kendal Cycle Club and Fix the Fells.

No bike delivered - DX cr@p!

You have sent me a feedback form for a product that has not been delivered on time by DX!

Everything until that point was good - but no bike probably means a poor score!!

Change your courier - useless.

Cannondale Topstone delivery :(

The ordering of the bike was problematic as the web page stalled during payment (but might be my internet??)
The delivery of the bike was disappointing, bike was said to arrive in the Friday, delayed until the Wednesday, lost (and refound) and then delivered to a local hub and remained there for a couple of days before being delivered on the Friday.

Just feel I need to write a short review on service delivery customer care and value

Just feel I need to write a short review for the workshop in Ilkley but also mention Staveley.
My e mountain bike is now 8 years old. I have done over 6k miles on it. I thought it might be going to the ebike graveyard but not so. New parcel/service kit in the motor, set of cogs and chain and it is back and running feeling tight and good again. I appreciate the effort to get it back on the road. These people care.
I bought a new bike Cube Reaction hard tail and picked that up from Staveley as they had one in my size. Performance of this company is exceptional. Knowledgeable staff, good service and communication. I now have two similar Cube bikes from them and have been delighted with both. The upgrade with an 800W battery is awesome. 70km in hilly terrain with 53% of the battery remaining. Many improvements on the new bike with wires less visible and improved performance in terms of shifter/gears/computer/brakes. Just £600 more expensive after 8 years. Fabulous value for money.

Great prices and fantastic customer…

Great prices and fantastic customer service. I was unable to conclude my order online because of my address, but when I phoned up Toby was able to help me secure my order after only 5 mins of calling. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for their next bike.

Just the best bike shop experience

Just the best bike shop experience I’ve ever had.

I was choosing between three top UK retailers for a high-end Cannondale gravel bike, and Wheelbase was the only one that responded with a personal, flexible, and thoughtful offer.

Reached out to discuss the order, and they got back incredibly fast – responsive, helpful, and genuinely focused on making it work.
Special thanks to Arawn – super positive, extremely attentive, and just a pleasure to talk to. He provided one of the best customer experiences I’ve had in the cycling industry: everything was clear, detailed, and easy from start to finish.

Assembly & delivery: 10/10.
The bike arrived in perfect condition, carefully wrapped and preassembled, with everything adjusted and packed incredibly well. Minimal setup was required – just the wheels and seatpost. You can tell they care about how the product reaches you.

If I could suggest one area for improvement: I’d love to see a more transparent post-purchase tracking experience.
Something like: “Payment received” => “Queued for assembly” => “Bike being assembled” => “Packed & awaiting courier handoff” => “Courier collected + tracking link” with estimates dates.
Even basic status updates like these would avoid customers having to follow up by email or phone. Currently, the courier tracking system is very limited, no clear delivery time window and huge delays in their statuses.

Phenomenal experience overall. I’ll absolutely be coming back for future bikes and gear.

Great customer service and mail order…

Great customer service and mail order experience from day 1 of ordering my new bike, receiving the bike with damage caused in transport, returning the bike and getting another sent to me as a replacement.
The replacement bike was packed with extra padding to ensure it arrived without any damage.
Dealing with Sam, from mail order was effortless and a true asset to the wheelbase brand.
