AIB sort your app issues out!
It's understandable that banks will push you to use online banking these days, however most banks provide an app for this that works. AIB do not. The glitches and circular 'technical issues' that bring you back incessantly to the login screen are legendary - just check a few reviews here. AIB need to get their software issues sorted out as a priority. This is most people's main interaction with the bank and it is uniformly terrible.

Had enough of aibs insane bank charges and late direct debit fees I'm also closing my account due to these issues and transferring to bank of Ireland even said to aib I was closing my account they didn't even try to keep me didn't care goes to show what they really think of customers would rather bank with anyone else except these anymore.

I’ve been a loyal AIB customer for nearly 20 years with an excellent credit history, but my recent experience applying for a top-up mortgage has been extremely disappointing.
The process was marked by delays, inconsistent communication, and requests to repeatedly resubmit documents that had already been accepted. Despite assurances that my application would be prioritised, it dragged on for weeks with no clear direction or accountability.
I acted promptly at every stage — providing all required documentation quickly and even purchasing a new mortgage protection policy with AIB as advised.
The purpose of the loan was to carry out energy-efficiency upgrades, something AIB claims to support through its green lending products. Ironically, the process failed at the first step, raising questions about how serious AIB is about helping customers pursue sustainable improvements.
I eventually withdrew my application from the branch and submitted a formal complaint. If unresolved, I will escalate this to the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman.
Unfortunately, once this is over, I will also be moving my account and mortgage to another lender. A bank that promotes trust and long-term relationships should do better — especially for customers who have stayed with them for decades.

The level of respect i had was little to none.
I was victim to fraud and the fraud team more or less laughed at me.
Sneered and actually said how did you fall for that. The shock of lack of compassion was unreal i complained he tried his best was unable to resolve the fraud team refused to acknowledge it was a scam and i was a victim its like they wanted to avoid this they refused give any charge back said cus i authorised the transaction culdnt refund but each time i called i got a different story someone has to take an account for this
I will be closing my account having nothing to do with this greedy bank again they me me sick choose bank of Ireland my advice! Dont go near AIB very bad people they offerdd me no support no help no advice little to none i felt like a burden and they didnt hesitate when i told i was closing it they nearly told me how to instead of stopping me. There job is to keep customer happy but it proves who they really are if they didnt even bother to try help its very sad for them the amount of customers they will use lose...but their own fault i lost 6400 and i was further exploiated by AIB!

No doubt the worst bank I have ever dealt with, in any country. Constant app issues like "updates", login and verification, still require card readers for certain things, they charge a fee every quarter for account management, no method ever worked to top up my Revolut (bank or card), the list goes on... Will be very glad to finally have all my accounts closed soon.
The approve function is absolutely horrible
The approve function is absolutely ridiculous. I've missed so many time sensitive purchase agreements just because the alert just wouldn't come, the app was off line or any other "technical difficulties". Fix this please. Seriously considering closing my account.

Wired money to a credit Union account but owing to who knows what the money never made it to my wife so I was told to issue a recall. The credit Union ignored it and AIB just told me there’s nothing they can do. Rubbish. I’m closing my accounts there. Find any other bank is my advice.

Payment two days ago...machine took cash ..and nearly my fingers...NO receipt..still NO sign of it.been.credired to the 'card' despite two phone calls to them ..about a hour on phone altogether. .and going into the branch about it...I would imagine were situation reversed. As a customer for over e5 years, AIB are by far the worst bank to deal with, incompetent staff, on line when you phone even worse more under trained staff who don't have a clue and give incorrect information, and have the ordasidy to change every quater for account management, well get some proper staff who understand enquiries and don't read from a script.

Simply the worst bank in Ireland to deal with. I have switched my mortgage 2 times since I bought my house in 2020. People advised me to not deal with them however I insisted because it was the best deal I thought I’d have. It turned out to be a nightmare. I applied online in the beginning of Feb/2025. I thought 2 months would be enough to deal with it. I am not even close to it. They are very disorganized! My application delayed 2 weeks because of their own internal mistakes. 1st I had to go to the branch with my wife, we went there during our lunchtime nobody told we had to print proof of address, since I have it online I could just email them. In this day and age they made me print it and return in the next day. Then the person who received it did not sent it to the mortgage area. More delays! The the person who was reviewing my application did not check properly our salaries and said we did not had enough to comply with our financial obligations. I had to explain all the paperwork, which by the way were straightforward, and the agent apologized by the mistake. Anytime they send you a message and you reply to it they will only revert to you after 48hs. This is ridiculous because even if it’s a simple mistake it will delay your application even more!
Now, a 3rd person is analyzing my case and it is asking tge exact same questions the other 2 agents asked me. It’s ridiculous! Our salary raised since 2020 and I also made pay downs along these time. Also I am currently mortgaged in a 20 years term (by our choice). How can it be so complicated!!! I just wanted to switch to them because of their current fixed rates! That’s it! But they clearly don’t care about customers. Stay away!

Absolutely useless mortgage provider. The best green mortgage rate on the market; but a retarded approach to assessing applications.
I've been paying minimum €617 per month for the past 7yrs 6mths without ever defaulting. Saving 7.5K per year. Paying €900 per month into a pension. Literally told me, we can't consider the €900 you're investing monthly towards your pension, €625 monthly savings capacity, plus ability to meet an existing €617 mortgage. against your ability to repay a €1100 monthly mortgage.
Told to stop paying into my pension for 6 months and reapply. What a load of numerical illiteracy.
