Booker’s Burton

I went recently to the Burton branch, hadn’t been for a while, i approached a worker there and asked where something was. I then headed towards the till area, i noticed the store manager near me whist i was looking at the reduced shelf, he asked if i was ok, i replied yes thanks. After paying the same guy approached me just as i was leaving and asked if i had something concealed up my jumper, i was quite shocked at being approached, i then lifted up my jumper to reveal my ileostomy. I thought the shock value might be enough to show exactly what was under my jumper, but clearly not!. I complained via the website as no apology was forthcoming on the day, i then got a call from the store manager two days later, who apologised which for me was a little too late. It would seem the guy i asked for assistance much have alerted the manager, obviously they were both wrong. I feel they could have handled this better, done checks on cctv first, took me to the office so i wasn’t made to feel awkward in public but none of this happened. I wanted to reach out to higher management with a view to them receiving future training in how to handle the situation in future. I saw a complaint about Shane Wright on here by someone else, it would seem nothing has changed and only backs up his complaint also. All he said after he approached me was, we have to check, absolutely disgusting behaviour. I also posted about my experience on the Stoma group on facebook they were appalled by my experience and threatened to boycott Bookers, and got me to name and shame them. I will not set foot in Bookers ever again! despite Mr Wright’s comment on the phone saying, i hope we don’t loose you as a customer, well you have. I welcome upper management to approach me, but doubt they will. I can see why there’s so many bad reviews except one guy who praised them saying he’d been to multiple branches and boasting about free coffee. Well its the mirror opposite for me, seems as though regardless of poor reviews they don’t act upon this to make an effort to improve the situation, they don’t deserve the custom. In addition i emailed two email addresses i found via the internet but got no response from either. I would have thought the fact i have to sign in on entry, they have my details on their books should be enough for them to take any action if they really did suspect me of shop lifting. I’m a member after all shouldn’t that count for something? Clearly not.

All gone to pot, find an alternative!

Been using them for 2.5 years now weekly deliveries. Over the last few months they've managed to just completely disregard customers and become a nightmare.

They have changed everything and experimented with their quite laughable delivery process which makes no sense at all now since some pen pusher has got involved. (Should actually listen to their employees doing the work) I believe this has been ongoing but it's just reached my area. They come when they want basically and the poor drivers are left to deal with the fallout from us customers.

Tracking is pointless. No alternatives are offered to companies who NEED deliveries at certain times and days such as those serving fresh food and allocated staff times for deliveries.

Make a complaint and raise a claim if you get damaged food, wrong orders etc they just reject it. "Denied - Uplift not returned" was the last message. Drivers knew nothing about this. Emailed several times you're lucky if you get a reply. Never once met a sales rep, if it wasn't for the drivers who deliver id have sacked these off long ago and found an alternative. 30 - 50k a year and it means nothing to them. I am now seeking alternative suppliers, hope they start to listen to their employees who know how to do their job. Maybe throw in a touch of customer service by putting your sales rep to work too. 2.5 years and never met or heard from them. Think I got a box of chocolates once (not given personally) passed to the driver to give us.

Look for an alternative if I were you these are on mission to make more money and in the process sacrifice customer relations and service. I've only given two stars because the drivers are excellent and most in store staff are very helpful. As a company they get zero.

Shambolic relic of a company

Booker has always had archaic technology and poor service. We stopped using them for a while and they sent out a rep to give the charm offensive and promised a change but they might be worse than ever.
Today their systems were apparently hacked so they don't know if deliveries are going out. Although, their payments system wasn't hacked because they took our money for the delivery. You would think a call to the depot could confirm if your delivery went out but the unhelpful staff there say they don't know! Ludicrous situation. They have drivers on the road but can't say where they are going or what deliveries they have. When suggested they call the usual driver the staff at the depot said that wasn't their role so would pass it to someone else - even though they work in the delivery department. I asked to speak to the manager but he isn't in today, on a day (yesterday too this was an issue) when it seems the system has collapsed.
A company in the Stone Age with staff drastically under trained.

Awful...

Awful.... Used to have a local delivery from Booker store a couple of miles away. After no consultation or consideration we were moved Makro in Deeside 14 miles away!!! Quite frankly the delivery service is terrible. We constantly have to pay staff to wait for it to put frozen food away. It practically never arrives within the time allocation.

Shame

Hitler himself would be mild ruling this Booker in Warwick, compare to the so-called management group. There is no freedom of speech, as a staff, you must guide what you say even as a banter amongst fellow employees. My husband was fired for cracking jokes with his colleagues in booker branch of Warwick, and the managers collided in conspiracy to sack him immediately. My husband has never put a foot wrong in all the years he’d worked for booker Warwick. He’s two years to retirement and just decided to get ride of him for what they claim is a violation of company policies. The joke did not mention any names and was actually about a different situation with our unruly neighbour.

This branch of the company lack the ability to retain staff. There’s one through their front door every 11 weeks and they have the audacity to fire 🔥 a loyal and hardworking member of staff in a heartbeat.

Russian Roulette for deliveries

Fine 80% of the time but frequently fail to deliver. Even worse, their order tracker will still show an arrival time so you think all is ok.

What's most annoying is that there will be no contact from Booker's. They leave it for you to contact them and in most cases tell you that if you want your order you'll have to come and get it!

Today they have told me it's out for redelivery but it's nerve wracking wondering if this is true? It's like Russian Roulette for deliveries and a stunning disregard for customers.

VERY POOR SERVICE
We visited the Morecambe depot on Sun 4th Aug 24.
On trying to log in we encountered a problem requiring to visit their sales office, no one in, we spoke to a member of their team who took the card to check it, all he said was it's marked for deletion (not deleted) totally unhelpful and asked us to leave keeping the card!!
No letters or anything warning about beforehand (they can send offers in the post at an annoying rate)
So a a big fat Zero for service and communication!!

Firs encounter a nightmare

Not a customer. My only visit to them, after someone told me they might be good for my business ended to be nightmare. Wolverhampton, Bilston. Customer service. I explained to that lady, I am not a customer and I need 5 minutes inside to see how they are structured, what products they are selling, prices, etc. After lecturing me for 5 minutes she finally said only one manager can approve my admission inside. Why not doing this straight away? Why creating me a non necessary stress as a potential customer? But, maybe they don't care about new customers, about the business, because for them is just a job, another day passing with no stress and no implications. Nothing inside to make me to accept that attitude, big prices, you can find in their parent of the business, Tesco, better prices. For me yesterday it was one hour lost because of my choice and they will never see me back.

Absolute joke of a place!

Bookes/Makro Queensferry.. I/my business have been a customer for about 5 years now.. it has become a joke of a place. 5 years ago I would recommend it to anyone as they used to be spot on. Now its a nightmare. Staff is very incompetent, noone responsible for anything. When I went in person to ask staff what is going on with the place as I got so concerned how my business is affected by their lack of reliability and lack of a proper management, 4 of the staff didn't even know who I supposed to be talking to... The website is constantly down, drivers hate their jobs, and I never know whether my delivery is going to turn up or not! An example - we placed an order on Friday for Monday's delivery, received a confirmation email, then checking the website on Sunday if its definitely confirmed and all my items still in basket.. therefore not receiving the delivery on Monday now. Can't find an email to HQ to get in touch to let them know how bad this branch is thou.

Bookers took it upon themselves to…

Bookers took it upon themselves to change my delivery depot and not infirm them of my trading hours - left me without stock for a key trading day and expected me to wait hours after close to take the delivery
Fuming, cost me a lot of money (lost orders replacement stock etc)
Could not be more angry

Driving on the motorway on my daily…

Driving on the motorway on my daily commute into work and one of there black signature 7.5 ton lorries cut me up and I'm in a fiesta, so when I get near to him I beep to which most would say sorry never seen you or whatever! This angry driver, then went to run me off the lane and threaten to punch me, if only he could tie his own shoe lace the possibilities.... I've spoken to booker and await an outcome, poor professional conduct

Delivery sent to another place and we…

Delivery sent to another place and we received someone else's delivery. When we told the driver he just said not my problem its yours. On another day we had someone else's order again amd again they just left it even when we called the driver back again its not my problem. And our last order half did not turn up and some of the stuff that did turn up was smashed and crushed. On the plus side there meat is fabulous

Extreme Frustration Trying to Open an account

We used to have an account with Bookers some years ago, but then they told us we'd "lost our delivery slot" - we didn't know that we had one! So, now, have recently tried to open an account. With extreme difficulty. Their website says that you "can" register online. When we arrived, we were told that we must register online, which we stood there and did. Mad. Not what their website said. They require three "proofs of business". I took my file of invoices, but they would only accept one document. They told me "we don't accept invoices from other wholesalers" - this is insane. Surely, an invoice from another wholesaler should be good evidence that we are a business. They were unable to accept my bank statement as evidence because it doesn't include the name of the business - I'm a sole trader. It seemed that the concept of "sole trader" was unknown to them. Extremely frustrating, and I have to go back there again with more documents. If only I didn't need to do so, I wouldn't bother.

I worked for them. They literally dont care about there customers or there staff. Go to costco. Or if your a restaurant in need of food and deliveries go to brakes.

Management needs changing from top down. Andrew Yaxley needs to step down as CEO same with Colm Johnson they are useless the stores are always empty and short of staff the store manager at worthing depot Gareth prays on women and he is lazy doesn't do anything he had been moved from Eastbourne for a reason.

HGV Driver without common sense

Absolutely appauling. Got their HGV Drivers driving through deep puddles whilst your trying to keep yours out of the water when on a flooded road and one of their pathetic excuses of a proffesional driver comes steaming through! Absolute Cowboys! Next time I wont give you any room to manouver past and cause me issue's.

I shop at bookers every week the staff are really helpful, and nothing is no trouble whenever I ask for help , today I called in As usual and the manager came and told me I had a flat tyre , he then went and asked his staff if anyone had a pump which the did , I am now at a garage replacing the tyre , thank you both so much 😃
