Ending your contract early - hope you have big pockets

I was moving temporarily into my parents until the new year. I’ve been with BT for 4 years, I asked to put my account on hold for a couple of months and was told NO and I had to pay £411 to cancel my contract. I asked if I could pay this on monthly instalments and was told yes once my final bill is in, I can arrange a plan. On 10th December i received my final bill which oddly stated £60 (which is my month bill) then on 18 December BT took £411 without any pre warning and 10 days before my direct debt was set up. I called BT who from a customer service perspective dealt with me very well. Told me how I needed to call the bank to recall the direct debt. But that I needed to pay the full amount by 28th December and there was no payment options to pay in instalments (which differs from my original conversation) and if I didn’t pay then it would go straight to a debt collectors.

It’s not worth it

Sadly another review that will encourage you to find a different provider. BT has made it incredibly difficult for my aging parents to change the contract and improve their Wi-Fi it verges on mis-selling (given they are making minimal to facilitate a change). All the same promises of we will call you. The culture there clearly does not encourage nor reward ownership and accountability.

BEWARE

Afraid I did not read the reviews on BT until I entered a contract with them. After reading them, I contacted BT to be assured that “with Full Fibre” no problem.
Well, Openreach installed that. Asked Gavin, the installer, to connect the television for me, as it was not connected to the internet. After one attempt, he said to ring BT to connect it, as he could not do it. He had another job to go to. Goodbye!
I spent at least three hours trying to contact BT, no reply. And every time, cut off after being on hold for more than thirty minutes. Eventually, I rang on the line pretending to be interested in joining BT. Was answered straight away!
The young lady, very kindly put me through to their technical department. After getting through, explained lack of the internet and was promised by Terence, that an engineer would call between 12-2.00 today. He would phone before he came to the house.
Got up early and got my shopping sorted. Back home I Waited, waited and waited. Yes, and waited. He never called. Never turned up. When I eventually got through to BT, was told that NO SUCH appointment had been made.
WELL I SHOULD HAVE READ THE REVIEWS. ITS MY OWN FAULT!

Sharp Practice

My friend is 77 and gets confused easily. He has broadband for his daily paper and to FaceTime his family once a week. In short his broadband usage is negligible. He pays BT £69.00 per month which includes a 750 minute per month 'phone package. Last month he used 56 minutes so he barley uses the 'phone either. His contract expires in February and has now received three letters from BT asking him to call them to get the best renewal price. He asked me to call them on his behalf as he wanted to know what is going on and did not feel confident calling them himself. This I did and I have to say that I was disgusted with the stance of BT. The detail would take too long to set out but I was told there was little point calling now as his contract did not expire till February. Mid January was the best time to call. When I pointed out that the letter said he should call now I was told "I get about ten calls a day saying the same thing". If this is the case I fail to understand why BT are sending out these letters when the promise contained in them is clearly a lie. If there is no deal on offer why say that there is? BT was once a reputable and reliable company which gave excellent customer service but alas that was then. Now it is clearly a company not averse to sharp practice and quite happy to exploit elderly customers with the promise of saving money in order to lure them into a new contract.

We upgraded from copper to fibre and have not received our upgraded hardware. BT representatives continually lie about the issues and do not resolve the issues. My business is suffering at the hands of these imbaciles and it is costing me money. However, they will tell you that they cannot be held responsible for any loss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BEWARE !!

I have just tried to review my services as I am due to retire and I was assured in March 2024 when I agreed to enter into a new contract with BT ( having explained that I was to retire in December and would want to reduce my outgoings at that stage) that I could change the services I was being provided with and reduce my bill. I am now told that I can only make a change if the cost is equivalent or higher!! If I want to cancel my contract which expires in March 2026 it will cost me in excess of £500

I used BT at a former residence from April of 2023 till June 2024. I had no issues at all. The delivery of the hub was smooth. Setting up was easy. When I moved in June and BT was not yet installed at the new residence. The agents were nice to readily cancel the contract as I could not be installed.

Zero Value!!!

No 1) piece of advice, if you need to call BT for anything set-aside 7am till 9pm. no 2) Have Valium & Beta blockers at the ready, in fact save time & take them pre-call, as one thing is for sure your gonna require them. No 3) Be prepared to be patronised to astronoimical levels, No 4) Expect ZERO results with any enquiry, No 5) make sure your phone is on a low tariff as you are going to be on the phone for many hours, No 6) a padded room will be required after interaction. No 7) Do not put your foot through the TV screen or have anything delicate or of value (smashable) close to hand, no 8) DO NOT ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH THEM, No 9) pretend they are the Titanic & evacute the company as an emergency!!

How I would describe BT internet would be; lazy, incompetent, happy to deliver misinformation, and mismanagement of customer issues!

I would describe BT internet as, lazy, incompetent, happy to deliver misinformation, and the mismanagement of customer issues!

On the 23rd, August, a storm caused a major service outage in my area - essentially a tree fell on multiple lines in the street leaving some residents with no internet.

I work from home, and I must have access to the internet, however, I'm sympathetic to problems occurring from time to time.

However, in my case I was left without internet for almost six weeks. This caused major disruption to my professional and personal life, as I was forced to sleep on my brother’s couch with two children for the entire time.

I was left distressed and without any support from the 100's of BT so-called ‘customer service agents’ that I had spoken to.

Issues I encountered during this highley stressful period include:

• When I reported the call, I was told nothing could be done to fix the fault straight away as it was caused by a major service outage and an engineer needed to visit the street, however, I could use the BT mobile hub that was in my possession, and that I had been paying for, for over a year at a cost of £14.00pm!!! I returned the hub to BT after using it for 1month (July2023 - August) after using it to transition into my new home.
• I was told I needed to prove I had sent it back or would not be refunded the additional money I had paid despite returning the hub.
• The tech team said they would send me a new hub byway of a goodwill gesture to help me get 'back online until my service was restored.' It arrived the next day and could not be activated - and following another call, the tech team said I had been sent the wrong device and as an alternative, they would send me an EE mini hub instead. That didn't work either. During this period, and to make sure I could afford all these 'free goodwill hubs' – a BT agent placed a hard search on my credit file, without my permission or knowledge. I was told I needed to contact the credit file company to sort out their breach of my personal data. This was only resolved after I said I was going to report the breach to the Information Commissioner.
• I was then told an engineer was booked in to fix the issue on the 4th September, I waited in and no one turned up.
• I was then told an engineer was booked in to fix the issue on the 9th September, I waited in and no one turned up.
• I was then told an engineer was booked in to fix the issue on the 13th September, I waited in and no one turned up.
• I called BT 100's and 100's of times day and night and was told a different story each time - and that, and I quote numerous BT customer service agents: "I promise I will call you back tomorrow, no I give you my word, when I say I will call you back I will." Not one person ever did, not one!
• I was offered free EE mobile data until the issues were resolved – and I have been charged £39.99 for this FREE privilege.
• On the final day an engineer was booked in, he called to say he was on his way, but after checking my address with me, he was actually in Northumberland and not North Wales!!!!!

All the above information does not even come close to the amount of incompetency I encountered by this company.

I spoke to another BT agent today (Friday 8 November) to get to the bottom of all the issues, and he believes, the numerous customer agents I spoke with over the six-week period, were, in fact, looking at my brother’s BT account and not mine.

Full-Fibre 500 Speed Hopelessly Unattainable

Signed up for BT Full-Fibre Broadband 500, which is guaranteed to give you speeds close to the 500mps.
The installation of the new full-fibre equipment by Openreach went well. However, I have never been able to achieve anywhere near the speeds they claimed I would get even plugging into router directly with an ethernet cable. Speeds attained vary from 50 to around 200mps - if I am lucky.
Having contacted BT, I am told various reasons for the slow speed - my "not new" laptop being the favoured one! They claim the speed into the router is at full capacity, so it's fault with my personal system.
The deal I got was a good one, but not for Full-Fibre 500 with unattainable speeds.
My warning is - Don't expect any of the speeds BT claim you'll get and don't expect them to be able to do anything about it.

Totally dreadful company

Totally dreadful company. My elderly Mother was persuaded to migrate to their Digital Voice service which did not transfer over and so she ended up without a landline phone but also her broadband service - based upon her age, she is deemed vulnerable. I travelled 90 miles to see if I could help and to set up her new service for her but without success. Now has no landline or broadband service - I need to file regulatory returns Monday with my firm’s Regulator online and shall be fined £500 if I do not do so and without broadband and which my business is totally reliant on - then I am now stuffed. Rang BT today - might as well have talked to myself. Zero empathy from the individual I spoke with called Cheryl. Dreadful company. Should be shut down. I have two other properties where I have BT Broadband and with this and my Mother’s account - you have lost three accounts. Suck on those apples BT

I play PlayStation with a friend who lives in rural Thailand. We will start downloading our updates at the same time. He’s normally done in 5 minutes and im normally done in 2 hours.

That’s right, BT is slower than the wifi in rural Thailand. And I pay for their ‘best’ package.

Easily the worst broadband company…

Easily the worst broadband company around. I’ve had nothing but issues in my 24 month contract with connection dropping out constantly. My contract was coming to an end so have made the switch to virgin media and was told by BT they would be charging me for leaving my contract early despite telling them twice I’m not cancelling my contract, I’m just not renewing it and received a snotty response that that’s what cancelling means and I can either stay with them and pay out of contract charges or renew with them in a new contract. I will never go with BT again.

Promised the world but got a shed!

I am in agreement with the majority. I am not pleased at all with my connection. I was promised the world but got a shed. I check my internet speed regularly using the BT APP provided and everything looks brilliant, but the connection to my devices is terrible. I have put the BT router in the best possible position, I also have WIFI extenders in place but nothing will help the connection. I’ve previously used SKY, and Virgin before that. They were honestly better. As soon as my contract with BT is finished I will move away and try broadband with a new company.

New build house

New build house, needs connecting for first time. I started the process in July. Many phone calls later, still waiting. Told yesterday that the order had been cancelled twice (but not by me), which makes no sense. Now told that EE is taking over order (owned by BT). No idea how much longer this will take. Zero confidence.

There's better broadband providers

Having taken out a new contract in July 2024, I requested a paper copy of said contract be posted to me. This request was made FOUR times, each time they lied and said it would be sent and it never arrived.
I made an official complaint two weeks ago and that has not been answered either. Definitely would not recommend.
