If you're in Cornwall, avoid these cowboy's like the plague!

This company has been carrying out grant work in Cornwall and exploting the system to under deliver and overcharged.

In our instance, they installed six storage heaters and roof insulation. The cost of the heaters was approximately £5,000 and the insulation value of materials was less than £500. However, via the grant, they managed to collect in excess of £14,000 (I had to make a freedom of information request to get this information).

They sent two unqualified individuals to install the heaters. The job was rushed in a day and when they left, the heaters did not work. Indeed, we had to study the instructions ourselves and call them back and show them the instructions. They were utterly useless.

They left our house in a complete mess. And with a massive pile of rubbish. We had to call Carbon Rewind to get them to sort out the mess.

What followed after this has been 18 months of problems and near disaster. Two of the heaters failed and due to poor wiring and incorrect switches, nearly caught fire. We've discovered damage everywhere, cupboards unusable due to cables installed poorly.

Over time, all but one (so far) of the heaters has failed due to incorrect installation (controllers cooked but incorrectly fitted elements).

We allowed Carbon Rewind about 5 attempts to put things right, but they really don't know what they're doing.

In the end, we've had to use a local, qualified installer to put things right and what they've found has at times been frightening.

Carbon Rewind claimed something in the region of £6,000 to carry out this one day install. So they're laughing.

If you're based in Cornwall and are being offered Carbon Rewind as an option to carry out grant work, I urge you to decline. Frankly you're better off cold than allowing these cowboy's through your front door. My mental health has been left in tatters by these idiots and on two occasions, I nearly lost my home to fire caused by their shoddy workmanship.

I could go on about this considerably more, but it's just too stressful to think about.

I've also posted a Google review about this situation some time ago. Carbon Rewind tried to bribe me to get me to remove that review. I fully expect they'll respond to this suggestion their disappointment and a desire to put things right, but this is disingenuous. They've had multiple attempts already and have failed.

The grant promised so much, improved heating with reduced bills. It couldn't deliver that due to Carbon Rewind taking £6,000 for a one day installation. Instead it's been an 18 month nightmare.

This review is dated with the latest failure (controller cooked by poorly installed element). The original installation was carried out in late November 2023. Carbon Rewind were given multiple opportunities to fix the issues during the first few months of 2024.

Dimplex approved engineer reinstalled the heaters later in 2024, however some of the heater components have continued to fail as they were damaged by the original installation. Two of the original heaters have had to be completely replaced.

New heating & hot water system , Solar Panels & Loft Insulation

ASHP, 8No Solar Panels & Loft insulation upgrade installed by Carbon Rewind under Govt grant scheme for older homes.
The whole team of people involvd, Gelu (ASHP), Dale & Ron (Insulation) Damien (Electrician), Declan (Solar PV) all worked very hard and well together and the work was completed in good time. Initial glitch with the ASHP set-up was immediately resolved. Special mention for a very knowledgeable Daniel W who commissioned the ASHP system and for Gordana who adminstered the project from the office. The removal of the old oil burner, exchanged radiators and wrappings from items for new system was arranged by Carbon Rewind with us having to do nothing was much appreciated.

Gelu was my engineer he was amazing…

Gelu was my engineer he was amazing fitted my radiators & heat pump , did a fab job-Thank you Gelu..
Declon fitted my solar pannels He was fab & did a beautiful job- Thankyou .
Genti did all the electrics superb job- Thankyou.
Daniel came back today to commission the pump & showed me how to get the best out of it. Very very helpful

I wish there was an option to give…

I wish there was an option to give minus stars. Stay well clear of this organisation! They are BAD news.
They advised us of the wrong insulation for our house, dumped a whole lot of building materials in our garden insufficiently protected, didn't show up for the work, don't answer emails, promise to get back but never do, etc. etc. They have set us back more than a month in our renovations, which is costing us thousands of ££ and we have a huge mess to sort out. We have to redirect pipes and replan insulation as a result of their wrong advice, and a pile of now unusable material has been blocking our back garden for more than a month now.
If anyone knows the name of a senior person in the company who I can address complaints to, please let me know, as the contact we had so far is useless.

Their reply to me below here is in keeping with their behaviour - of course they have my contact details already, and I have written on numerous occasions about the problems we have faced. So why they would need to start from zero by asking me for my contact details is beyond me. If they were a self-respecting company, they would already know about how bad the situation is at our house, I've left them in no doubt about this in my emails to them. Unless, of course they are swamped with complaints.

3 1/2 months and I'm STILL waiting!

Further to my original review of this company on 8th Feb, re the ongoing problems I have been having with the ASHP they installed, they posted this public reply:

"Our customer care team will be in touch shortly to arrange immediate support and discuss the next steps. Additionally, we will review your letters of complaint to ensure they are properly addressed and improve our response process moving forward.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention—we are committed to resolving this matter promptly."

Yet STILL the wretched thing isn't working properly. And STILL they are not responding to my emails or messages.
Why do I have to call them out on a public forum for them to respond?
Why, in that public reply, are they making commitments they don't keep?
The (very, very, very busy) engineer that came to flush the system was great. The lady on the end of the phone very polite. But whoever is in charge of actually making sure the heat pumps they install are installed properly and actually work is doing a TERRIBLE job!
Let's see what Trustmark can make happen....

Loft insulation

Dale and Ron arrived on 4/3/25 to insulate our lofts. They were very pleasant, professional and polite. They worked very hard and were very tidy. We are very happy with their work and would highly recommend them.

Was great until we hit problems

Was great until we hit problems. The pipework has not been finished as promised which means we now need to get a plumber in and we also had to have the waste removed at our own cost as it was never picked up. No one seems interested in helping us with the aftercare of this. Also the wires to the old thermostat are left and I just hope it is no longer connected as there is an exposed wire coming from it.

Carbon rewind are efficient and responsive in providing their services.

Carbon rewind were very good, dealt with any queries or concerns I had. Jon Henley who institute cavity wall insulation did a great job and was helpful in making sure the job was completed. Access to our property was not straightforward but he rescheduled appointments to allow for extra hosing to be delivered so the job count be finished properly and on time.

I wish I could share some disappointment of the…

I wish I could share some of the positive reviews of your customers but my experience with the installation of Air Source Pump system has been a nightmare. This is not the first time I have viewed my disappointment with Carbon Rewind. During the warranty period no less than 10 engineers have attended to rectify problems in the system. Each time the problem is solved only for the system to fall over again within days. Whatever work is carried out appears to be guess work, and it works for a while. The last time the system went down was the last week in December. A knowledgeable engineer fixed it and he was confident that this time it was for good. Alas! the system is down again and I have been without heating for 3 days. This is very distressing. It is even worse for my octogenarian husband. Last time the engineer called he showed me a couple of filters which were covered with slush. I had it serviced 10 months ago! Surely the whole system needs to be flushed out and remedial action taken.
I wish I had my old oil boiler back!

ASHP service

I booked a service of my ASHP and radiator system as I wanted the same company that had installed my heating system last January. Daniel Warner attended and did a thorough examination and a detailed report of my system, going over what he had done for the service and if I had any questions. I have found Carbon Rewind to be an excellent company and am pleased that I have chosen this company for my heating. I will be booking my service again with the next year.

Ron was absolutely fantastic

Ron was absolutely fantastic! He was very informative with what he was doing and why. He was very happy to accommodate our situation with our loft and did a marvellous job in the process.
