Landlords beware.

Im a tenant of a previous Chase Buchanan property.

The reason for this review started back in spring 25 regarding our neighbour who was clearly dealing drugs, I asked to leave our tenancy early in order to protect the health of my pregnant girlfriend, our landlord even agreed to let us vacate early given the Richmond office found a new tenant to move in one month before our break clause.

For whatever reason they refused to safe guard the health of my girlfriend and decided to make us see out the full length of the tenancy which meant we had to move out 6 weeks early and essentially pay 6 weeks double rent which corresponded with our new tenancy, even after giving them spare keys to the property so the lettings team could come and go at ease with potential viewings.

We professionally cleaned the flat and left the keys inside before vacating for a final time (because we had given the Richmond office a set of spare keys previous).

Fast forward 2 weeks later the day we were legally liable to vacate the property (15th September), Chase Buchanan Richmond had booked in the new tenants to move in on the same day between us legally vacating the properly and the deposit clerk conducting their inspection.

After many frantic calls from Chase Buchanan on the morning of the 15th it turns out the lettings team and in particularly George Burman James had given the spare set of keys to the new tenant before we had vacated the property. Which meant the deposit clerk couldn’t inspect the property before the new tenants had moved in their belongings.

How can a professional estate agency and deposit protection company conduct an honest audit of a property after a new tenant and their removal company has already entered the property?

This is nothing but the work of complete cowboys. Not only does this company disregard the legitimate worries of vulnerable tenants, it also has no qualms in leaving landlords with the headache of navigating new tenancy check ins before outgoing deposit audits.

The Richmond office is due an inspection from the housing ombudsman. Pictures are attached.

Chase Buchanan were very helpful estate agents in Bath, especially compared to others I had spoken with. However, the advert for the property had the wrong council tax band, which is quite important when looking at bills etc. Despite this, Samantha was incredible helpful in the buying process for my flat. She was always available to talk through the purchase, providing any info required for the flat and would also help communicate between the sellers and myself efficiently. Emails and calls were responded too very quickly and I couldn’t have asked for a nicer estate agent to help me through the process. I would likely use them again in the future. Definitely recommend.

Throughout and very difficult process because of idiots below in the chain, Anna and Kris looked after my interests with good communication and understanding. I can’t thank them enough and they’re highly recommended compared to some of the other agencies in the Hampton Area.

For two weeks I have been unable to move into the flat I rented through Chase Buchanan. The property was handed over dirty and with furniture, despite the contract stating it would be clean and unfurnished. When I returned the keys, the agents tried to pressure me, saying I must still pay 12 months’ rent, and even demanded to write a letter confirming I had no claims before they are giving the keys back. Completely unprofessional – I would strongly advise avoiding this company.

We have had our ups and downs in both the sale and purchase of the new property while with Chase, including treaths of withdraws, from buyers if sale was not completed within a certain date. But Adèle, the Senior Sales Negotiator, held it all together by contacting all the people involved, outside her circle to get everything back on track.

Excellent service

After visiting a few different agencies on Hampton Hill High Street, we walked into Chase Buchanan and were greeted so warmly by everyone in the office that it instantly stood out. Although the lettings manager wasn’t in at the time, Tom (who sits right by the door) was quick to step in, take our details, and arrange a valuation for our property.

Once Lucy visited the property and we agreed on the marketing strategy, rental figure, and move date, the team went full steam ahead with viewings. On the very first day, we received three strong offers from great applicants. We chose the tenants that best suited us, and Tom immediately got to work coordinating everything and collecting documents from both sides.

The tenancy progression team were also fantastic—handling the tenancy agreement (including the additional clauses we wanted) and arranging all the essentials like professional cleaning, inventories, EICR, and gas safety.

The whole process felt smooth, efficient, and stress-free. A huge thank you to the team—and especially Tom—for the excellent service. Highly recommended!
