€69 for a Cottelli product with a luxury filter on top.

What a disappointment.

The product on COAX Copenhagen’s website is presented beautifully. The photography, styling and overall presentation make it look like a luxurious, refined, high-quality piece of lingerie. At €69, that is exactly the level of quality you would reasonably expect.

Then the box arrives.

And inside is a Cottelli product, clearly labelled “Made in China”, in Cottelli packaging.

To be absolutely clear: the fact that COAX is a multi-brand retailer is not my issue. I have no problem with a retailer selling products from other brands. That is not what my complaint is about.

My problem is the actual quality of the product.

The lace feels cheap. The hardware and fasteners feel cheap and flimsy. The overall finishing is disappointing and simply does not give me the quality impression that the website strongly suggests.

And even if I had bought this exact Cottelli product directly from Cottelli for €69, I would still be disappointed.

COAX’s response talks about how similar-looking products are not necessarily identical in terms of materials, construction or quality.

That sounds reassuring.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t really address my complaint.

I am not comparing this to some random imitation I found online. I received the actual product. I can see it, touch it and judge the materials and finishing for myself.

I also have several Hunkemöller lingerie pieces at home, and the difference in perceived quality, materials and finishing is immediately noticeable. That’s a rather uncomfortable comparison for a product being sold at this price point.

And this is where I find COAX’s response particularly frustrating.

They explain why they charge €69 and mention their sourcing, operating costs and international shipping.

Fine.

But my complaint wasn’t “Why are you allowed to charge €69?”

My complaint was:

“Why does a €69 product look so much more luxurious online than it actually feels in your hands?”

Of course COAX is free to set whatever price they want. And customers are free to shop wherever they want.

But customers are also free to say when they feel that the price-to-quality ratio simply doesn’t add up.

The photography is beautiful. The marketing is polished.

Unfortunately, you don’t receive the photography.

You receive the product.

And once the beautiful pictures, styling and marketing have disappeared and you are holding the actual item in your hands, the supposed luxury is rather difficult to find.

Beautiful marketing can make an average product look expensive. It cannot make an expensive product feel premium.

€69? In my opinion, nowhere near the quality I expected.
