My experience with Collingwood Insurance Services Ltd has left me extremely disappointed, particularly regarding their approach to cancellation fees and the complete lack of flexibility shown.

My daughters policy was cancelled with only around one month remaining. Despite being so close to the end of the policy, Collingwood applied a £40 cancellation fee, which I was told was non-negotiable.

What makes this particularly frustrating is that, because the policy was already in month 11, no refund of the remaining premium was offered. So, from my perspective, I received no financial benefit from cancelling the policy, yet was still expected to pay an additional £40 simply to end it a few weeks early.

Had this been made clear in practical terms, it would have made far more sense to simply leave the policy running until its natural expiry date rather than cancel it and incur an additional charge.

I find this approach very difficult to justify. Collingwood appear happy to rely rigidly on their terms when imposing a £40 cancellation fee, while at the same time retaining the premium because the policy is near its end. It feels like a clear double standard, with the terms working entirely in the insurer’s favour and offering the customer no reasonable or proportionate outcome.

I fully appreciate that insurers have administration fees and contractual terms. However, applying a £40 cancellation charge one month before the end of a policy, while providing no premium refund whatsoever, feels excessive and demonstrates a complete lack of discretion or customer-focused decision making.

Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend that anyone considering Collingwood reads the cancellation terms very carefully, particularly what happens towards the end of the policy.

Unfortunately, the inflexible handling of this situation has completely undermined my confidence in Collingwood Insurance Services Ltd and I would not choose to use them again nor would I recommend them, I will go out of my way to actively warn people about them.

Completely unjustifiable cancellation fees. Avoid!

Collingwood came up on a comparison site as the cheapest insurance provider for my partner whilst getting additional practice in before her test date. It turns out Collingwood were, by far, the most expensive.

I understand non refundable business arrangement fees and administration fees for cancellation, and was happy with this. Where the issues lie is with the insurance underwriter keeping 40% of the yearly insurance fee just 5 weeks into the policy.

My partner (un)fortunately passed, and as a result, from our initial £748 payment, we have received £360 refund. £380 for 5 weeks insurance makes them the most expensive provider to ever exist. Better still, they do not even offer full driver insurance, so they are actively punishing drivers for passing their test, every single day.

This goes against the FCA guide of deductions being reasonable and justified, and does not reflect the providers loss related to setting the policy up. I am expecting a phone call back in the hope of rectifying this atrocious business practice before escalating to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

If you are learning to drive, avoid this company for insurance, and go with a more reputable provider that will not keep extortionate proportions of the premium upon cancellation (of which there are many as I've personally held insurance with a lot of other providers).

They are totally lost on their system, As I already got quote and paid over £400 upfront. They started cancelling my policy and charged me £77 for only one week without apologizing.
Total scam.

Please beware when you pass your test they cancel the insurance and then charge you £40 for doing so. Even though they are cancelling your policy, and most people don't take a year to pass their test. So instead of including the cost in the in total quote, they add money on at the end to bump up the premium but to beat others initial quote, Underhand tactic as you would expect from an insurance firm when I said this they threaten debt collectors in a smug way as they know your not going to do that for£ 40 .I would avoid for this reason.

I was speaking to Sarah and was honestly one of the most loveliest and helpful operators I’ve come across, went through everything and made sure I understood it all and made the process easy for me.

Have to pay a cancellation fee because I passed my driving test 2 weeks before the insurance ends and they didn't send me a year no claims until a week after I got insured on a full license.

Absolutely rubbish insurance provider , stay away from them . Once you pass your test , they will try to rip you off from money , ( after 1.5 months they asked me to pay for half of year insurance ) . STAY AWAY FROM THEM . If you want to be safe
