Really bad customer service
Really bad customer service. I received a watch that was in terrible shape and I had already traded my watches in for this now broken watch. I was left with the choice to have them “fix” it or have it fixed myself. The fact that this was sent to me in the first place shows they no longer have working watch makers to inspect watches that they are selling. I chose the second option. Without a phone number to call Crown and Caliber cannot respond in a timely manner has zero responsibility to respond to customer issues. Used to be a trusted company, now not so much. Use at your own risk.
Communication is little or nonexistent!
Communication is little or nonexistent! They consistently give you a phone number to call, and when you call the number it's in-operational. I've purchase twice before the merger and I'd give C&C 5 stars. The new merged company is 2 stars at best. I purchased my 3rd choice of watch as my first two options sold going through the trade-in process. In the past, once the deal started the desired watch was linked to the trade in. Now there is no link and the odds of the watch you wanted being available are slim and none. Also, they promised to return a watch strap that was included in the trade-in but after 4 emails to date; there has been absolutely no response from customer service.
Generally speaking
Generally speaking, similar to all the other reviews - sparing the details it's hit or miss customer service at best. Too many options between Bob's, Chrono, etc. to use Crown and Caliber...unless you feel like rolling the dice. Suffice to say I have tried twice to transact and will not be trying again.
Absolute worst company I’ve ever used…
Absolute worst company I’ve ever used in my life. They shipped a watch missing links and then took 8 days to reply to my inquiries - pushing it past the 7 days return window. They are impossible to communicate with. NEVER EVER BUY A WATCH FROM THEM. YOUVE BEEN WARNED
Tried to buy watch from them but...
Tried to buy watch from them, put in cart and paid with card no problem. Email from hodinkee about fraud protection days later and saying I must answer it asap because it's time sensitive. Ok fine but how about you answer back ASAP, whatever, provided ID, alternative email phone, and why shipping and billing address is different. Get ghosted for a week get told it's denied because everything has to match. Ok fine, retry the purchase now with everything matching and still get ghosted for days. Sends in support email about it then finally decided to send me the same automated fraud email despite having all of my info already and ignoring me for days. At this point I doubt I'll ever get the watch, probably another lame excuse then getting ghosted. Decided to use this website because friend had good experiences with it before hodinkee acquisition now it looks like a huge pile of dung. Don't waste your time here, seems like it decide to go full sketch and now business is struggling.
SAVE YOUR SELF FROM A HASSLE
SAVE YOUR SELF FROM A HASSLE. SAVE YOUR MONEY
Horrifically terrible customer service. I went to their location because I deal with people In person. I looked on their site and got their address. A couple people mentioned they had a lot in stock but were really overpriced. Well, I want to sell so hopefully that will help get me more cash on mine. I went by because it is close by. I was in the lobby when the security said it is appointment only. People were coming and going and I’m standing there with a Paul Neuman Rolex Daytona that is a very expensive watch, to me anyway. I know it’s all relative. There were two people who worked there that physically saw me, well dressed, I showed them the watch and they still turned me away. For security reasons. They said they didn’t know if I was going to try to do something bad… Even though I have a $75,000 watch in my hand. Security made me leave and said go to their site and mail it in. Absolutely not! I don’t care if it’s insured. You think UPs will actually pay out that price for a watch? The people who decide don’t understand expensive watches. So no. I’m protesting that as an idiotic suggestion.
Just google Crown & Caliber reviews. That’s all you need to do. As of November 2023 they have proudly secured 1.5 out of 5 stars with 30 reviews. All reviews mention overpriced, terrible customer service, bad watches having to get substantial repairs immediately after purchase that they somehow managed to say was not covered under their warranty. Apparently nothing is covered.
Save your money. Go to an old school watchmaker. There is one right up the street. Womble Watch. Their website isn’t slick. It’s not updated but it’s a real old school watch shop. They do not send it off. There is a grey haired watchmaker with certificates and diplomas all around. He is personally responsible for every single watch he repairs or sells and he will make it right. 2799 Dell Road, Marietta Ga 30067. 770-952-1812 I just googled his reviews. 4.3 stars out of 5 and has 60+ reviews. I’m headed there now and I will not be returning to this mess. I wish I would have saved myself some time and just checked their reviews out first. I know better but I was thrown off by the slick website. I won’t forget that lesson learned from now on.
Charged for expedited shipping, but NEVER shipped.
Just learned that the reason the watch I bought from the Hodinkee shop on October 9th that I also paid extra for expedited shipping is so far a spectacular failure because Crown & Caliber is responsible for shipping the item.
Despite having ZERO problems with my first purchase (zero information has changed FYI) a little over a week prior, I received a shipping notification email on October 10th, but then discovered that my order never shipped out and the carrier never received it.
Zero legitimate explanation for this so the 2-day shipping I paid for was wasted/stolen due to laziness and/or incompetence and 4 days after placing and paying for my order in full, they have yet to ship it out.
AVOID at all costs. Waste of time and money.
Disappointment
I purchased a Rolex during a one-day sale event. Crown and Caliber then referred my information to their "investigation company" that verifies my information. Since my shipping and billing information was not the same, they canceled my order based on the recommendation of that company.
Disappointment
Wish I could give them a lower score.
Wish I could give them a lower score.
First, sent in a Rolex Datejust they made me an offer on that I was trying to sell. When received, they tell me they are not interested due to dial discoloration. No problem, it's 26 years old. The problem was they kept one of my links. Finally reaching someone they tell me, not likely, but we may have made a mistake. Then I received a receiving report they made up that showed the lesser amount of links. Go on, really.....Anyway, after I requested a receiving video, they then offer me $150 for the missing link. Fair price.
What if I didn't know or press the issue???
Next, I tried to purchase a Rolex Explorer. No communication so I missed the $500 sale. Gee thanks. Then, after bargaining with them a bit I tried to buy a Rolex OP 34MM. Guess what.....they changed the price of it by an increase of $700, while it was in my shopping cart. Guess their bargaining wasn't going to cost them after all.
Yor may be asking why did I persist?????? Ah, the power of an In House Store Credit which was a whole other horror story.
You do business with this company successfully, you have a high likelihood of being struck by lightning. Good luck.
Terrible communication
Terrible communication. Im supposed to send them a watch worth thousands of dollars, and at no point can I communicate with an actual person? And then 5 days later I get an automated response, with wildly different valuations, and no one to follow up with. I do not recommend this service.
You call Bob's Watches, and an actual human picks up the phone, chats, makes it a pleasant experience when spending a lot of money.
Crown and Caliber or Hodinkee is the the watch equivalent of being put on hold by your insurance company.
Slow Payers
Good Morning, I recently purchased a Rolex thru C&C. The experience was fantastic. So I enjoyed it for a year and figured , let me sell it and possibly buy another. The buyback process started 6/13 and here it is 7/11, and I have no check for my timepiece and so far all I am getting is the runaround. I paid for my watch Instantly and they are taking their sweet time to pay me. Hopefully I wont get screwed.
I would give them a lower rating but…
I would give them a lower rating but one star is as low as I am allowed to go. They sold me a breitling chronomatic. The watch has no power reserve. They refuse to take the watch back but instead said they would repair it. The repair would take 6 weeks. Ridiculous!!!
I was a longtime customer. Bought MANY watches from them. Never again.
They changed after they were acquired. I think Hodinkee is an ancient word for “screwed”
Based on these reviews I can’t believe they are still in business.
“The Jokers of Watches”
“The Smarter Way To Buy Or Sell A Watch”? What a joke! I bought a diamond Cartier tank from Crown & Caliber, and they offered me store credit to buy another watch from them AND $1k LESS than what I paid for my watch. I wore the watch once. They shouldn’t advertise that they buy watches, and they should change their motto to accurately reflect their company. For example, “The Dumbest Way To Buy And Especially ‘Sell’ A Watch” is much better. They should also rename their company “The Jokers of Watches.”
I sure wish I had checked reviews…
I sure wish I had checked reviews beforehand.
They claim to pay with check but then say only store credit.
And I have broader suspicions about their business practices as well.
Unbelievably long wait times to get…
Unbelievably long wait times to get paid for a watch they purchased from me. It’s 2023 and they only mail checks via snail mail. Every other reputable dealer I’ve ever dealt with uses wire transfers. Nobody answers the phone and email responses take days. Their Spam email department is clearly up and running though, as I receive at least 20 junk email from them every day.
Reversed Offer and a Lost Watch
I was offered a sum of money for a beautiful watch that was just recently serviced. After agreeing and sending the watch in, it took 2 weeks for Crown and Caliber to send an email saying they have rejected the watch. No reason was given. The watch was then sent back to me before I verified the address where it required a signature. After all of this the watch is now making its way back to the company with no delivery date in site. This is now going on 5 weeks and I am out my Omega watch or money for it. This is not the old Crown and Caliber.
Sellers Beware
Crown and Caliber does not stand by its offers. They will give you a price and then drop it after you send them your watch. I wrote to the company founder and president and he did not even respond. Don't get sucked in. Go somewhere else.
Buyer/seller beware!
Buyer/seller beware!!
They are shady and a bit crooked. Sent my Omega in with original box. They decided they didn’t want the watch in on trade and then returned the watch without my original box. Made some excuses about how they don’t inventory boxes, etc.
Thief’s
Not what they used to be
In the past year, I've had two negative experiences dealing with Crown & Caliber. The first negative experience came after 'purchasing' a Rolex Day-Date from them. Shortly after making my purchase, I received an email from their company stating that they had inadvertently sold the watch I'd just purchased. Their customer service throughout was pretty abysmal. False promises of finding me a replacement, only to be ghosted with no follow-up + delays in getting me my refund.
My second negative experience came this week when I tried to sell them a watch. They claimed the watch needed to be serviced even though it had a complete overhaul from Blancpain less than a month ago.
Sad because in the past they seemed to be pretty good.
