Terrible watch selling experience

I had sold my Breitling Avenger GMT to this site recently (within the past 2 months) and have done transactions with them in the past. Since the Hoodinkee take over I find this site had taken a dive in quality of service. This lastest transaction selling my watch will likely be my last with this group. There was constant miscommunications between their customer support and accounting which led to a delay first getting the watch (customs delay though not their fault) and more importantly there was a delay in getting my funds for the watch for the agreed upon price. Things like this are NOT how you instil trust in your brand.
Hopefully this will improve in the future but for now I will be going with other 3rd party watch dealers to buy and sell my watches.

Copy of Letter mailed to the Founder, Hamilton Powell. Never received a response from him or the company.

I see on your LinkedIn your pride in the YPO thingy, and that your tag line is I Work Hard. Its clear you don’t work hard enough. In my first experience with your company, it will be my last. You’ve failed on so many levels.
Following all your online instructions regarding a watch I am interested to sell, I waited a few days for a response. Finally, your company sends me back an email with a Link containing the price. Problem is…..the Link doesn’t work. Nothing. No click click. Broken.
So I Replied, sending back THAT email containing the broken link to the senders at Client Services, with a note that the Link was inoperable. I received no response.
I sent a SECOND email a day later, containing my first email info and your broken link email. Nothing. In this business world, it doesn’t take days to respond….only a few clicks or, God forbid, a phone call. It also requires a company to have a professional culture, responsiveness and TRUE customer concern. You don’t.
Your reliability, authenticity and professionalism is now forfeited, and I will no longer even CONSIDER doing business with you. I bet you have two people sharing a desk. You remind me of a circus barker, claiming greatness and excellence on your website and LinkedIn……and all you’ve got it your bark.

Atrocious customer service and unethical business practices

I previously rated them 5 stars but since they were bought by Hodinkee, service has gone down the tubes.

I’ve bought and sold a little over a dozen of high end watches to them over the last few years…I even had a relationship manager. The last couple of transactions have been brutal. Previously they’ve never once changed a quote after inspection, however the last two times (and coincidentally after they were bought out) they’ve reduced a quote by $500 saying it needed a new strap (a strap that I sold afterwards for $400 privately…guess it wasn’t in that bad of shape after all) and outright pulled an offer on a very high end piece, starting that it required a regular service. The piece was 20 years old, which they knew before I even shipped, and not to mention that I’ve sold them much older pieces which required more even servicing in the past.

The worst part is that emails are never answered anymore. Even when you call in and they say they’ll get back to you, they don’t. Had a shipping inquiry and they never bothered to even call me back. Service was good before…it is non existent now.

Don’t waste your time, there’s other companies that deserve your business.

I sent them my watch for appraisal

I sent them my watch for appraisal. When they returned it to me, they filled out the customs paperwork incorrectly. Now FEDEX is holding my watch hostage until I pay then $600 duties & fees on my own watch. Beware, do not send them your watch if you live outside the US.

Stay away from this company

Stay away from this company. They will entice you with an online trade in offer for the watch. Once you ship the watch, they will come with some excuse about the "quality" of the watch and give you a much less offer.
Don't waste your time like me dealing with them.

THEY LOST MY WATCH AND WONT PAY ME

I got a quote for a watch sale for 14000$ and i shipped it using their FEDEX LABEL. i emailed asking where it was and when i was going to get paid and they told me that they LOST IT and now they keep telling me they need to wait for fedex, its been OVER 3 MONTHS OF ME WAITING AND THEY HAVE BEEN IGNORING ME FOR 1 MONTH in emails, they claim to have insured labels but either they are LYING or DO NOT want to pay.

do NOT trust this company for buying/selling watches as they will take it and tell you fedex lost it so they get a free watch.

I shipped them a unworn deepsea dweller on 3/31/22 they received it 4/1/22. Five days later they contacted me claiming it had a large dent on the right lug under the case. I demanded a resolution to this because it was purchased from a rolex dealer last year and was never removed from the box. A representative expressed that maybe the dealer damaged it and didn't tell me. I rebuffed it because I purchased six rolex watches from them and they wouldn't have done that. Now they are trying to send a damaged watch back without a resolution. Very dishonest.

So much for their "Warranty"!

I bought a Breitling Colt Chronograph in November. By February it quit working. I thought no problem because they offer a warranty.......wrong. The said they couldn't fix it and it would have to go back to Breitling at my expense of course. Then they blamed me for the watch not working and refused to work with me at all.

Sent my Sea Dweller in and it wasn’t authenticated, upon return of the watch the front glass is completely missing. I haven’t been able to reach them as they are closed. I’m expecting they will have no idea as to where the glass is at now. Absolutely rediculous a high end watch company can’t manage to send back my watch in one piece.

Watch sellers beware of this company

I sold a watch to this company back inNovember 2021. They extended me a reasonable offer for the watch and I accepted. Iopted the express payment for a small fee. The check never arrived. I called in and customer service
was polite and attentive. They noted that the check was sent through regular mail and it would be put to 10 business days
to arrive. Ok. No problem. 10 days went by and no check. I gave it a couple of more days and still no check.

I called back to track the payment and they issued a stop payment to the supposed check that was mailed and overnighted me second check. The firs check never arrived. I deposited the overnighted check through my bank app. The next day I received a notification from my bank stating that my account was. Under investigation an all my funds were frozen and my account was closed . I went to the bank to find out what was going on.To my surprise the bank said that the
check I deposited was flagged as
fraudulent.

This is when the ordeal began. I finally got a hold of a supervisor named Elysse. Her poor demeanor and lack of customer service skills is astonishing. Throughout my conversations with her she made me feel like I was trying to pull
a scam. I asked for a manager and I was connected with Timothy Carson, Director of Client Services. He is the one who responds to reviews. He assured that it was
all going to be taken care of and put mein contact with Chantel Boddie, their comptroller.

I would like to praise Chantel for doing everything she could in a courteous way and being extremely patient with me in moments of frustration. As nothing could
had be done on her part I called Timothy Carson again to express my frustration and see how we could keep digging into the issue. At one point I left him a voicemail stating that if I see no resolution I was going to take this issue to court. In another conversation, this
fool remarked on how $1,700 could be a big amount of money for some people. Which I replied to him that that amount does not make me any richer or poorer and that I wanted what is rightfully mine. It doesn't matter if is $5 or $1000 dollars.
What a nerve he has. Absolutely
prejudiced.

I was referred to Tricia DelliPizzi, SeniorVice President of Business Operations. In her opening email she stated that she handled all legal matters. I thought great,
finally a capable person. I provided her with all the documentation that the bank gave me to proof that the check never was cashed but this was not enough. I still was treated like if I was trying to pull a scam. I contacted the bank as their
check and my account was in the same bank. The bank clearly told me that the issuer of the check needs to call the bank and verify the check number in order for
the funds to be released. I relayed this information to aTricia and she was asking me to tell the bank to email her and set up a call. Who am | her assistant?? Many emails and back and forth and they have done nothing as of today, January 10 2022.

It seems that this company does hands out big job titles to bozos with absolutely no people or customer service skills. They are shady and expect you to do all the work on figuring out what happened to a fraudulent check they issued. I finally got paid almost three months after accepting my offer.

Lacking customer experience

C&C is just okay. I bought a submariner (114060) from them and the price was fair and I loved their youtube content and hodinkee just teamed up with them so I was expecting good things. I was surprised however when the customer support and attention to detail was lacking. Its very common practice for online watch dealers to size the bracelet before sending out the watch, especially on a very expensive purchase, they however refuse to do that for "logistical issues" and told me to go to the Rolex dealer in person... when there is a global pandemic risking my health and for my family.

I have bought from other watch dealers before such as DavidSW, and the attention to detail they bring to the purchase end to end is superior. When the watch arrived it had a ton of extremely sticky stickers on the watch as well, which left an awful residue on the watch, and I had to wash the watch immediately. From my experiences, great businesses have two things in common. 1.) An extreme over the top care for the customer, and making sure the customer is happy. 2.) A relentless deep obsessive nature for the details in the products they produce or sell. C&C lacks in both categories. It's so unfortunate because their online presence and youtube channel is fantastic. I love the watch, but this will be my last purchase from them unfortunately.

Appalling experience with C&C

I recently purchased a watch from Crown and Calibre as I had heard good things about them. My experience with the overall purchase was appalling considering their statement "While no company is perfect, we strive for excellence at all points of the watch buying and selling partnership".

Aside from the purchase confirmation, I received no other communication for my purchase. No tracking number, no shipping status. They left me in the dark until FedEx contacted me that a delivery was expected.

For a company that runs a YouTube channel educating people on watches their customer service team is suprisingly ignorant. I contacted them regarding a bracelet resizing for my purchase and they had no idea what I was talking about. I had to explain that the bracelet was probably too big and if they could actually size the bracelet down for me. Then as I had experienced with their customer service so far, they left me on read and never resolved my query.

Upon receipt of my watch, they attached this red label on it where removing it would void the free return grace period. This is fine and all but removing the label results in the sticky residue to remain in my expensive watch. Are you kidding me? Have they no regard for what they sell that each purchase results in this sticky crap to ruin the watch. I had to go out of my way to purchase a removing agent just to clean my watch.

My second day of wearing my watch I experienced one of the pin screws unscrewing. Keeping in mind this watch was maybe 1-2 years old at tops, this is a significant lack of attention to detail the C&C staff have on their end. My guess is that they bought the watch off the first user, just rescrewed in the links which were taken out without reapplying Loctite and that was that. Imagine what would of happened if the screw unscrewed all the way and my watch fell to the ground on my second day of ownership. A purchase with a "renowned" dealer like C&C should not be leaving me feeling insecure but here I am now afraid to wear my watch in case it disassembles itself. I now have to go out of my way to return to the Rolex Boutique (again, since I had to go the first time to size the bracelet) to be able to wear my watch with confidence.

What kind of a show are you running? The buying experience felt like I was doing you a favour getting rid of stock instead of an actual purchasing experience. I'll only ever browse your site to price match for Watchfinder.

Crown and Caliber's growing problem with False Advertisements. Check complaints with the Better Business Bureau before transacting

Notice the last 2 reviews on the BBB now detail Crown and Caliber's ("C&C") growing problem with False Advertisements. In fact, most of the reviews here outline very questionable business practices by this company. While an "error" or two may be an honest mistake, the large quantum of similar "errors" combined with the company's responses which seek to minimize their misdeeds, suggests an element of scienter in their approach to doing business. Don't brush off the 3/5star rating when considering whether to do business with this company.

C&C understand the value of a watch depends heavily on it being part of a complete package including box and papers. The company advertised the watch I purchased as being a complete package that included the original watch and papers. The company then shipped the watch without the box and papers as advertised. When confronted, C&C admitted to the false nature of the advertisement and the lack of "box and manuals as advertised." Instead of offering a discount that would reflect the appropriate value of the watch according to well-documented industry standards, the company resorted to lies about the number of times they have been caught in similar false advertising situations. The company not only has shown no remorse for their false advertising but at every turn has actively attempted to minimize the magnitude of the moral failings.

Highly Recommended!

I have bought two watches ( Rolex Datejust, Tag Heuer Carrera ) from Crown & Caliber, and couldn't be happier with both experiences! They offer fast professional service and are one of the most trusted dealers in the game. I will be buying from them for many years to come!

Reputable and Professional Company

I sold my husband’s Rolex to C&C and they had outstanding customer service. I was given an estimate of what they would pay after sending them pictures of the watch and paperwork. They responded promptly, were very helpful and walked me through the entire process. They sent me a check for the full amount they had stated very quickly. I would highly recommend Crown & Caliber to anyone wanting to work with a reputable watch company.

Waited too long time

I sold my watch to this store. First time they said my watch $3000, after over 2 weeks inspection they give me many reasons to get down the price. I lost 1 month to sell my watch and get a check. I never recommend you guys sell watch this store. So suck, so long time.
