I ordered a £140 badminton racket from Direct Sport and it arrived in an extremely damaged box; ripped, crushed, and banana-shaped. The ‘free gift’ grip was missing, and the whole thing looked like it had been through a war zone.

When I contacted Direct Sport, I was told to return the racket for an “assessment”, which was frustrating enough. I also noticed the racket sleeve was missing, and when I queried it, I was told it wasn’t part of the order. However, there was no option to add it on their website in the first place!

I made it clear I didn’t want an assessment, I wanted a refund. So, I returned the racket. Weeks went by with no communication whatsoever. I had to chase them for updates, and when the refund finally came through, it was £20 short.

They had the cheek to charge me for the “free restring” that came with the racket! I queried this with customer service, but it was clear that empathy and professionalism are not her strengths. The whole experience was shocking and deeply inconvenient.

In contrast, I ordered the exact same racket from Central Sports, and the difference was night and day. Their packaging was ten times better, and the service was excellent. I’m already planning to order my second racket from them.

Lesson learned: I will never, ever buy from Direct Sport or Direct Badminton again. Poor packaging, missing items, awful communication, and a total lack of care. AVOID

It was the packaging of your item which was damaged. The racket itself was not damaged. We have since received your racket back from you, have thoroughly inspected it and can further confirm it is not damaged in anyway.

As you have requested a refund of your order, the fees associated with this are applicable. These fees were specifically pointed out to you in advance of your refund and you still opted to go ahead with a refund. This has been issued to you.

It is always advisable to familiarise yourself with a retailer’s Return Policy in advance of making a purchase with them so that you are well informed incase you need to make a return.

Return policy discrepancy

You weren't allowed to try the shoe for fit and comfort on the court ... With a slight of dirt on the sole it was rejected for refund.

I did buy a wide shoe to try the fit which is too big and it's of no use.

You are correct with you statement of not being allowed to try shoes on court if you would potentially like to return them. I am not aware of any retailer which will allow you to essentially try before you buy. Any item you wish to return for a refund or exchange must be in a resaleable condition, as per the terms and conditions of our Return Policy. Would you be happy to receive a pair of shoes from us that a previous customer has worn on court? I doubt it.

Next day deliveries take up to 7 days!

placed order Monday morning, paid extra next day delivery - rang Wednesday as not arrived told it might take 7 days! arrived Thursday. emailed and asked for a full postage refund or a returns label as I needed them for Wednesday and didn't arrive in time. Didn't reply to the email when I rang they offered me £1 refund or charge me £3.99 for a returns label!

I can see Royal Mail attempted delivery to your address on 20th and 21st of October but you were not available. I understand you requested redelivery and your order has successfully been delivered to you today.

Had someone been available at your address on 21st October, delivery would have been a lot quicker, and well within the estimated 2-3 working days from dispatch on Friday 17th October.

Took exactly a week for the item to arrive. I bought some shuttlecocks and some of the feathers were unfortunately already a bit damaged (nothing major).

Disappointing

Next day delivery on the racket which was great, and the price was competitive. However the string tension on the racket was laughable, very poor. I had to replace them same day it was received as it was unusable. Customer Services not interested.

It is of absolutely no benefit or interest to Direct Sports not to complete a customer’s restring request. Ordered the item on the second of…

Ordered the item on the second of October and I was surprised it arrived in less than 24hrs. I bought the Astrox 99 Pro Cherry Sunburst colorway with Exbolt 68 Black Strings strung at 28lbs. The racket is great but was disappointed with the strings. I usually play with a BG80 strings and thought I'd try the Exbolt 68 but it didn't last an hour of play in its first outing. Caught it on video and it was a smash that broke it but I thought Exbolt should be durable enough for smashes.

Bought many times for years

Bought many times for years and I can't remember ever a mistake in delivery. Helpful on phone. I once needed a refund from Yonex for trainers that had a mechanism fault within the warranty period and they were helpful to process and I received a refund.
