I very seldom write positive reviews. This one however, is an exception.
I help a lot of people with their Irish genealogy at no charge. Your Irish Roman Catholic Parish register search database at Find My Past (FMP), is fantastic in searching for Irish Catholic Church baptisms, marriages, and deaths/burials. There's nothing like it online, anywhere. It is an invaluable research tool. I use FMP all the time and have recommended FMP to hundreds of family historians over the years. Without bragging too much, I am FMP's best advertising agent, at no cost to FMP.
I especially like how FMP Catholic parish transcriptions are linked to copies of the original baptisms, marriages, and deaths held by the National Library of Ireland in Kildare Street, Dublin. I also recommend your subscription-based British military collection to people with Irish ancestors who were in the British Military. Otherwise they would have to hire an expensive genealogist to search military records for them at the National Archives of England in Kew, Surrey. Searching the myriad of British military records at Kew is a genealogical art form all in itself, and not for the faint of heart, or those with little patience.
I really do thank you FMP for being a great website for Irish genealogical research, especially researching church records that predate civil registration in Ireland.

We’re sorry to hear that you feel misled about the 12-month billed monthly membership chosen.
Choosing the billed monthly option under a 12-month agreement means you’re committing to a full 12-month term, just paying in monthly instalments instead of the full upfront cost. That said, we completely understand that circumstances can change which is why we offer the option to end the agreement early with an applicable termination fee. You can also choose to continue with the monthly payments and cancel at the end of the 12-month term.

I find it quite cumbersome to work with. Having tried the competition I am rather disappointed with the results I am getting. That may well be my own fault - I will need to gain more experience.

Find my past has been great
Find my past has been great. There are so many well captured documents and records available which can’t be found elsewhere. The quality is really great and the transcripts are highly detailed and accurate when compared to other sources.

Too expensive
These companies are all good its just disappointing they are all so expensive now they never used to be as dear.
I cant actually use it because its too expensive.
I spoke to other researchers who say the same.
If it was more like £5.99 or under £10 a month it might be something I would use. I used to have a few of these but they are all too dear.

I’ve been using FindMyPast since it was 1837Online - I’ve found out so much about my family - I really need to stretch myself outside of censuses and parish records - I still think I waste a lot of what is available - and that’s my fault! Admittedly 95% of my research is in the UK so I can’t speak to data from other countries.

Good original source document access
Positives are:
1. Access to the original documents & ease of download. These often have other information not in transcripts, and also reveal transcript errors (that are not all that rare). It is strongest on UK data.
2. The filtering provided in the search set-up page provides a quick cull of unwanted or at least unmanageable quantities of entries.
3. The raw newspaper searches are great, and having them popup under the regular birth/death/marriage searches produced many stories to add to color the narratives—like pulling on a ribbon.
Negatives:
1. If you are making a few changes on the search profile after running it a couple of times, it can give you no results at all, as if it did not clear the prior entry. Then you have to start over from scratch, entering the same data and the results magically appear which were previously blank.
2. It's the best for census data and births marriages and deaths. It does have access to other sources, books etc, but digging them out is too hard because there is no obvious search function. There needs to be an option to just enter a source name and go to it.
3. Also access or links to other documents available on line even though they are open source, eg passenger shipping lists, would be helpful. You should have access and searching functions even if it is just a link to an outside source site that is freely available (eg ships to Australia).

Good presentation, easy to make changes
Good presentation, easy to use. Limited data source for searches. Recent marriage records seem to be limited. Easy to add family members, when attaching census records to a person.
Note that my experience has been with people that lived in Quebec (Canada), during the period of most of the 20th century.
Update:
After working with census records search and attaching those to my tree, I found that Findmypast does a good job for each individual's timeline, and also makes the sources available (transcript and original). This is one full star above MyHeritage.

For England and Wales we have birth indexes from 1837 - 2006, marriage indexes from 1837 - 2005 and death indexes from 1837 - 2007.
The General Register Office was part of the Office of National Statistics, but is now part of the Passport Office. Owing to the view that the Passport Office takes on information, it has been decided that it should no longer be made public to in such a manner.
Therefore at this point no further GRO BMD indexes for any date after those currently available will be added to the website as a result of this. You can contact the local registration office where the birth, marriage and death occurred or the GRO directly and they may be able to assist for entries after the above years.

A great tool to use in finding your ancestors.
Easy to make a tree and add to it. I'm finding fascinating new information about my family with all the hints I am given. If I hired someone to do what I am doing, it would cost a fortune. I found 3 newspaper articles about my ggrandfather from 150 yrs ago! He was a drunk and miscreant! My ggrandmother brought him to court and I felt like I was there with all the details given. The census is very helpful. It confirms where they were living and the names of the children. My only disappointment is the census takers estimated birthdates. I was told they were paid by the street and were rushed.
