A+ I highly recommend this Auction House.

Building aesthetics and location are beautiful. A comprehensive selection of rare, mysterious trinkets and items. The staff are very pleasant and assisted me adequately and promptly.

I sold some jewellery today of my late…

I sold some jewellery today of my late husbands - I was very happy with the prices offered - I had already tried a few jewellers in Preston but they didn’t seem too interested. I visited Gerrards and spoke to Elizabeth and the whole process was stress free and straight forward. Thank you again .

BUYER BEWARE!

BUYER BEWARE!
Do not buy anything on line or rely on the auctioneer's description or estimated value. I bought 6 lots and 5 of the lots fell short of the published descriptions in terms of quality or condition. Gerrards' terms and conditions appear to absolve them from misleading their clients. It seems barely legal!

High Quality Service at Gerrards

First time for me at Gerrards, who provided a first class and personalised service. Highly ethical company, which I am happy to recommend to anyone interested in buying at auction! Staff are excellent as well!

Good Auction House very accommodating

I find Gerrards Auction house to be very good and helpful in buying and selling items I have done both of these in the past and they where very helpful and they would look after items without charges not like other auctions until i can pick them up which is great as I do live some miles away. 5 star all round

''Gerrards'' Outbid Me, Then Attempted Cover-Up.

''Gerrads Auction Rooms'' outbid me, then relisted item in their next auction. When I exposed their shenanigans they immediately sent me an invoice without any explanation. Below is the message I sent & to this day they have not clarified as to why they re-entered the lot into their following auction, or whether they are members of any auction associations. Very deceitful!

Dear Gerrards Auction Rooms,

Further to my earlier conversation with your Gerrards team member, Leanne, I respectfully request Gerrards Auction Rooms to address the following unanswered question I have regarding the bidding activity on Lot 140-Tiffany & Co Fine Quality Sterling Silver Large Bangle ( Cuff ) Signed Tiffany & Co, which was offered in your December 20th 2022 auction.

In our telephone conversation Leanne explained that a female member of staff had accidently entered a bid on the above lot, which superseded my maximum bid & subsequently won the item, but could offer no further explanation as to how this bid had been physically entered.
I was totally bewildered by her claim, so asked for confirmation, "So, I was outbid by a Gerrards member of staff?"
Leanne's response was to immediately circle-the-wagons & replied with, "I wouldn't want to admit to that"

I made it clear that I was extremely dissatisfied with her explanation , or rather lack of one, & requested that she forward me a written draft of her explanation.

The questions I would like answered are as follows;

How was the winning bid physically entered by your female member of staff in 'error', as I assume she would've had to have been registered for the sale, approved to bid & be hovering over the Bid Tab prior to placing the bid? Specifically, what account was used to place the winning bid, i.e. a personal account or was it Gerrards inhouse account?
Who removed the winning bid & when?
Is it Gerrards policy to allow staff members to bid against customers?
Why was the item relisted in your January 1st auction?
Why wasn't a full explanation offered to me prior to forwarding your invoice, as the winning bid placed by your staff member must have been known at this point, otherwise Gerrards wouldn't have generated an invoice for me.
Finally, is Gerrards Auction Rooms a member of any auction associations?

Dear Sir
Firstly Gerrards Auction Rooms did not outbid you. You were the successful bidder but due to an administration error during the live auction this lot entered our timed auction after the sale. We became aware of this very shortly after the sale ended and we rectified the matter by raising an invoice and emailing it to you straight away.
At this point you contacted us accusing our staff members of dishonesty.
We have explained to you on numerous occasions the answers to the questions that you are requesting.
The staff member was logged on to our back office system which operates the saleroom live bidding.
Due to an administration error your bid was not assigned.
Immediately following the auction whilst doing our checks we noticed the error and amended the sale to yourself and sent you an invoice.
It is not Gerrards policy to bid against customers and this absolutely did not happen.
We re listed the item in January because you did not settle your invoice from December.
There was no explanation required prior to forwarding the invoice as you were the highest bidder and should have been expecting an invoice.
We are affiliated with the saleroom and easy live auctions.

Good polite & courteous service

Good service - nice prompt communications and courteous (when I did not receive a hard copy of receipted invoice I received a quick apology and promise of awaited receipted invoice which was needed by me in the absence of access by me to a printer) and (importantly) the lot I bought in auction was promptly delivered to me (very reasonably) by the in-house p&p facility and is a lovely piece. So, well done Gerrards .

Fantastic experience with Gerrards

Fantastic experience with Gerrards - staff are all 100% there to help. The items I purchased were really beautiful and even though the photo was good, when they actually arrived only a couple of days later, I couldnt believe how lovely they were. I would like to compliment them on their excellent packaging as well - really great. Other auction houses should take a leaf out of Gerrards book, for sure. Well done, looking forward to dealing with you again.

Super communication

Super communication, very friendly and helpful emails, as the item I bought was a present, they sent it immediately, which I didn't expect and really appreciated. Ring was well and accurately described.

Everything you expect from an auction house and more

I regularly buy from auction houses and the customer experience can vary hugely. Gerrards Auction rooms did everything above and beyond. Clear and timely comms, well described and photographed lots and a very well packaged delivery service which was a reasonable cost. I am delighted with their service- I just wish that other auction houses would copy their great example!

Thank you for your comments and I am sorry that you are not happy with your purchase. There was a detailed condition report provided within the description of the item stating that some items had scuffs to the gilt and not all items matched. A detailed photograph was also provided of the items prior to purchase.
We always endeavour to ensure all our customers are happy. But unfortunately at an auction you must make sure you are happy with your purchase prior to bidding.
We had already paid the vendor for the item and felt we were unable to provide a refund as the condition was stated and we we are sorry we could not sort this out for you on this occasion. Kind regards Lizzy

Enjoyable experience.

My first auction & I was selling mainly family heirlooms. From when I dropped my items off at Gerrards then through the whole procedure, all the staff members I dealt with were kind & helpful which made me feel really at ease. I watched the auction online & was thrilled to see one of my items reach a most unexpected amount so that was the icing on the cake! All in all, a very pleasant experience from a very professional company. Can't wait to go back with my next lots!

Wish I had never used them, not as professional as I thought

This company seems to want to do things when they want not when they say they will. I hired them to do a house removal. John turned up and to be honest was very nonchalant, he looked at the stuff we had, "yeah well they don't sell now", "this did but its not worth much", "that is nice, someone may want it" etc etc. He then offers me a price, which was accepted by my wife, I felt it was on the very low side, but she wanted to get the stuff out. Gerrards then called me to say that Jon would be round on a date at 10:00 AM, we got there early, he arrives, rings the bell, we open the door, he walks in and says, I had another house clearance yesterday and my van is absolutely full of stuff, I will go back to the Auction rooms and unload it and will be back in an hour, (no mention of the tip, this will become apparent later). I said you were supposed to start at 10:00 today, to which he replied, well I was here at 10:00 and I replied yes but you are not starting now are you. He then started to make further excuses, to which I suggested the faster he got away the quicker he would be back. An hour past, and he was not back, so I phoned Gerrards and, spoke to a very arrogant woman, who basically tried to make out the delay was because I had not given him a set of keys, which I did not want to do because I had other items in the house which I did not want touched, she kept telling me that "he called at 10:00 with another person, but when I watched him arrive and leave he was on his own, to take away all the items that would be going to the tip", I asked how could he when he told me that his van was full, she said "he was going to add my stuff to it and make one trip". The things is that Gerrards say that they give stuff that cannot be sold to worthy causes, and recycle other items, when I asked the woman about this, she said that "they do that at the tip", so Gerrards don't recycle they just dump everything. Then at 11:30 Jon and his crew finally turn up, I had locked my stuff away and so I gave them a key to the front door. Jon told me that it would take the rest of the day to clear the house. I had a viewing at 13:00, so I drove back to the house, and was met with Jon, picking out all the best items and very carefully putting them in his van and then he drove off, the two lads seemed to do nothing for ages, then they came out with part of a very expensive set of wardrobes destined for the tip. they then went and sat on chairs they had put outside and smoked or vaped. The neighbours called me later to tell me that the workmen were sitting on chairs outside the house, smoking after every item they seemed to put on the vehicle. So I get a call to say they had gone and the house was secure. I thought that it was all finished, so I went round to see what the house looked like only to find the hall still full of items, the front room was also full of items. I was led to believe it was a one day removal until I got a call from Gerrards to say that they will have to finish the job the next day. I asked when I would get paid, and was told that they would finish on the Friday, and I would get paid on the Monday, I gave all the details of where the money was to be paid and left it at that. At around 16:00 on the Friday, I get a call to say all is complete and the keys have been returned. So on Monday, I check and the money is not in the account, I check again first thing Tuesday, nothing, and so I phone Gerrards and ask why the money was not in the Bank despite their assurances that it would be, I am given the excuse that they do not have my bank details, and when I tell them that they had them before the move was completed, the woman went and checked with someone. She then tells me that she will hand it over to the team to deal with as she only deals with packing. Then about 20 M
mins later I get several missed calls that I don't answer because I am driving, this is followed by a text to tell me that the payment had been made that morning, I contact my bank who tell me that the transaction was sent 10 minutes after I spoke to Gerrards, which makes me wonder if it would have been sent over if I had not called. I thought this was a professional company, they will make about three times what they paid me for the items and still they could not treat me with the respect of one of their customers and do a professional job. I would think twice before using this company for ANYTHING, they has soured me towards people like this. I feel that they cannot be trusted.

Mr McAllister, I am greatly disturbed to read this review, as it bears no resemblance to our account of the matter. Certainly we were asked to give an estimate for the house clearance, which we did, and the valuer would always be honest if items are of low value or unpopular. It was agreed that we would pay you for the contents a sum of £1500, and would also clear the house for you. On the clearance day, we arrived at 9.45 a.m. when you said you would not give us the keys, and you wished to stay for the process. The house was cleared over a day and a half, some items were taken to the Council Recycling Depot, any rubbish was disposed of, and obviously we have to pay for this. The job was completed as agreed, the whole service from clearance to payment took four days. All items loaded into our van are put in carefully, and we always ask staff to smoke outside of the premises. I am unsure where you have the idea that your items were three times more valuable than you were paid, the truth is we barely broke even on the arrangement. We have been conducting house clearances to satisfied customers for many years, and I think perhaps your expectations were unreasonable. We are a highly professional company, and deeply resent the unfounded criticism.

I have just purchased a beautiful ring at the latest auction. It was my first auction and I was quite nervous and very excited. All the staff at gerrards were lovely and extremely helpful and I felt they were genuinely pleased for me when I made a successful bid. Thank you. An amazing experience.

had to pay for lot before this auction…

had to pay for lot before this auction house would quote for post and packing , they used 2nd hand box and used paper all my items were rubbing together , royal mail charge was £6.70 they charged me over £30 just for p + p . so if you want to get ripped off get them to post . Will not use and i do not recommend

Disappointed and ripped off.

The small 7-inch silver mounted bladed item I won at the Gerrards arrived in a very poor condition with rusty and heavily pitted blade. Auction posted a picture the shiny sheathed item and failed to mention the blade condition. With buyer's premium at 24% I expected more attention to the lot's description. What is more, I have been overcharged nearly 500% of the actual shipping cost. While I was charged £24 for posting the item the actual cost was only £4.20 as per postal label at A5 jiffy bag.
