Had ENVIROHEAT 200l hot water system installed yesterday. Excellent communication and very impressed with the prompt booking to replace the old Quantum hot water system. Appointment was booked for installation the very next day within 1 hour of accepting the quote. Work was done professionally and old hot water system was removed after installation. A total shock. Instead of a hot water system, I lost $600090…
Having read the reviews on another site, I ordered online an installation of a hot water system Rheem 125l 3600W from JR as replacement for the old system. I paid in full. The wait was 14 days. The seller never asked about photos, or any other information about the existing system. On the day, a box was delivered with what I assumed was the system. A few hours later, two guys came and told me they wouldn't be installing the system, unless I paid an additional $400 (I already paid $1499). I told them that I paid for the whole system and I shouldn't be paying extra. They took the box and left. Now I was charged $600!, thus half the price, that I paid in cancellation fees! But I didn't cancel anything. The tradesmen simply refused to install the system without more cash. The business claimed that I bought a TANK, even though the word tank was never mentioned in the ad. It said Hot Water System. Basically, avoid buying online, and never pay in advance, or you may be sorry,

I received an explanation from the company that wasn't explaining anything.
This was my reply:
This is a long explanation that doesn't address the issue at all. JR advertised online a HOT WATER SYSTEM, but they told me that I bought a TANK. If you are selling a TANK, advertise a TANK. This is a clear case of misleading advertising!
Asking me to assess whether, my old, 23 years old hot water system (!), was "compliant" is unreasonable. I know nothing about hot water systems, I am not a plumber. I am not an expert, they are supposed to be.
Moreover, unlike the local plumber who, by now, installed the system, they didn't send anyone to check out the existing system before sending out the crew. They never asked a single question about the existing system. They didn't want any photos. Instead, they were satisfied with sending out technical emails that I had no idea what they meant.
How different things would have been if I didn't buy their system! I didn't I have this problem with the friendly, local plumber, who came to my house to check out the old system, and in a few days installed a new one! And, the best thing, it wasn't more expensive, but I got what I paid for, and at last we could have a warm shower!
Buying online from JR, I thought I was getting a bargain for under $1500. Instead, I lost $600. (I thought the price was low because they made me to wait for two weeks!!! for the installation, that didn't happen.)
If it is too good to be true, then it is too good to be true. My advice stands. If you want to have a new system, checkout the local plumber. Don't look for bargains online, never pay in advance, and have the plumber come, and check out your old system before giving you a quote! Once bitten...

Email below in response to your fair trading complaint should answer most of your questions as it hopefully has theirs. We do note they have made ZERO recommendations to changes in practices or anything they could be made clearer to the end customer, so we are glad them us and 99.9% of our customers are on the same page and can easily navigate our site. I suspect these 1-star reviews may be in relation to your complaint being closed off.

We are writing to respond to the complaint lodged by Mr. Jerzy Budmar concerning the installation of a hot water system by JR Gas & Water.
Incident Summary:
On July 9, 2024, our team was scheduled to install a hot water system for Mr. Budmar that he pre-purchased via our website.
Upon arrival and assessment, it was determined that the existing setup was non-compliant with the requirements specified on his purchase, in our terms and conditions or in his agreed installation quote. Specifically, the system lacked a necessary safety valves and other compliant components.
Our Position:
Clear Communication and Terms: Mr. Budmar was provided with clear communication and terms of service at multiple stages:
The product listing on our website clearly stated that the installation required existing compliant components, including valves, to be reused unless a valve kit was purchased. Our quote and terms of service, which Mr. Budmar agreed to, explicitly detailed the requirements for a compliant installation, including necessary valves and other components.
We communicated at least six times prior to installation, reiterating that the existing installation needed to meet specific standards and included photo examples for reference.
On-Site Assessment and Offer: Upon arrival, our installers found that Mr. Budmar’s existing setup did not meet the required standards. As such, they offered to perform the necessary upgrades for an additional $400 to ensure compliance and safety, this quoted upgrade to our gold inclusions listed online was at a lower rate advertised. This additional cost was in line with our terms and conditions, as the existing installation did not have the required compliant components.
Cancellation Fees and Refund: Mr. Budmar chose not to proceed with the necessary upgrades and requested the removal of the system. According to our terms and conditions, cancellation fees apply in such situations:
A 20% restocking fee and cancellation fees based on the timing of the cancellation were charged.
Mr. Budmar received a refund minus these standard fees, as outlined in the agreed to terms and conditions and agreed quote.
Compliance Responsibility: It is important to note that while the installer assesses compliance on-site, the customer is responsible for ensuring that their existing setup meets the requirements as clearly stated in our communications and terms of service. This includes the responsibility to provide a compliant support base, correct orientation, and necessary valves.
Supporting Documentation:
Terms and Conditions: Clearly state the requirements for a compliant installation and outline the fees for cancellation and restocking including example of what a compliant installation is.
Quote and Agreement: Signed by Mr. Budmar, agreeing to the terms of a tank-only installation based on the assumption of an existing compliant setup.
Communication Records: Detailing the requirements and terms, including photo examples of compliant setups.
We believe our actions were in full compliance with the terms and conditions agreed upon by Mr. Budmar. The charges and fees applied were standard and communicated clearly at multiple stages. We remain committed to transparency and fairness in our business practices and welcome further review by the Department of Fair Trading.

Prompt and professional service
Got a quote for a new install of an on demand Hot water system to replace the old. Went again with a Bosch model although slightly larger this time (16H). Initial price was for a 5 business day install window but they turned up 2 days later. Work carried out by Brendan was excellent quality (I'm also coming from a trades background and critical of sub par work).
Final invoice was for exact quoted amount.
Can recommend JR Gas and Water to any seeking plumbing help.

Emerald Heat Pump Hot Water
Like most homeowners, I spent a significant amount of time researching and speaking with area installers about a new heat pump hot water system. Due to a lack of awareness regarding heat pumps, many local installers attempted to sell me electric hot water systems instead. They even tried to persuade me that heat pumps may not be the best option. However, after doing my research, I was very clear in my mind that a heat pump is the best option for my house.
During my research online i found JR Gas and Water. Contacted them and I received thorough quote following my initial enquiry. Despite my several questions and concerns, Jarred constantly answered patiently and thoroughly, ensuring that I was completely satisfied with the quotation and the process.
I encourage everyone to do their research on different models available and compare them. Also, take the time to compare electric vs. heat pump systems and write down what is important for you. This will help ensure you make the best decision for your needs. their website has a lot of information on this subject but lacking the comparison feature.
The installation was scheduled shortly after I confirmed the quote. I chose the Emerald 270L heat pump model EE-HWS-A1-270E because of its Wi-Fi capability, which allows me to monitor and change the temperature and settings remotely.
This model also includes the backup heater option, although i highly doubt if we ever need it here in QLD.
They didn't have that in stock so on my request they ordered it and i was told that this is their first installation of Emerald heat pump in QLD.
Brandon and Jai from JR Gas & Water arrived for the installation and were very professional. The neat, accurate installation, with no bent pipes and everything done properly, demonstrates the excellence of their work.(Pictures Attached)
Overall, it has been a smooth and happy experience.
Also, I had questions about installing a water filtration system in my home. Brandon guided me on the available options and how it could be installed. I plan to proceed with this in the coming months and will undoubtedly reach out to Jarred for this project as well.
