Disappointing Experience with MECCA Maxima Miranda and Customer Service

I’m incredibly disappointed with my recent experience over the phone with Erin from MECCA Maxima Miranda and MECCA’s customer service in general. As a Beauty Loop Level 4 member, I’ve spent a significant amount of money with MECCA over the years and have always expected a certain standard of service in return.

All I asked was for a simple item to be put on hold so I could pick it up just a few hours later — a basic request that I’ve never had an issue with at other MECCA stores. However, it was rejected without much care or consideration. There was no flexibility, no attempt to assist or offer a reasonable alternative — just a flat "no."

As someone who has remained loyal to the brand, I find it disappointing and frankly surprising that MECCA wouldn’t accommodate such a straightforward and customer-friendly request. It makes me seriously question whether my loyalty is valued at all.

I hope MECCA reconsiders how it trains staff to support loyal customers and provide service that reflects the values it promotes.

Overpriced

Overpriced. Shop here if you want to carry a Mecca bag around and feel cool. Good range though and they don't try and push sales on you.

MECCA’s Dirty Secret

My wife bought two packs of MECCA Cosmetic Sheet Mask from MECCA Chatswood shop in Sydney on March 23, 2025. When returned home, she opened the sealed carry bag and found the Sheet Masks had already expired last month on Feb. 7, 2025. Next day she went to nearest MECCA shop in Hornsby Mall asking exchanging those expired Sheet Masks. But the MECCA shop assistant had refused to exchange and explained to my wife that the expiry date format is not America format and it needed to read as YYYY.DD.MM in which it would expire in July 2 (What’s a joke???). The shop assistant had also said that MECCA shop computer would advise staff to remove expired product from the shelf & it was not possible for MECCA to sale expired product – really?
After I heard this from my wife I immediate told her that there was only two date format used in Australia – the universal date format YYYY.MM.DD and Australia specific date format DD.MM.YYYY. There was no such YYYY.DD.MM date format existing in this world. Because expired cosmetic product is not safe to use, my wife returned to MECCA Hornsby shop asking for refund. But this time she had those expired Sheet Masks exchanged with good one (see the attached picture).
Visited two MECCA shops but both MECCA shops performed customer cheating activities. It could be assumed that all MECCA shop assistants were intentionally doing this regardless MECCA computer system warning to remove expired product. The question is simple that is this a MECCA’s systematic dirty secret & who is cashing in by resale expired product collected from garbage bin?

I've had nothing but amazing…

I've had nothing but amazing experiences with Mecca, both in store and online, and I shop with them every month. The staff are always so lovely to talk to, and knowledgeable, and the online shopping experience has been flawless. On the one occasion there was an out of stock item, they notified me right away and sent through the refund. I have on occasion gone to buy skincare elsewhere but always end up coming back to Mecca because I trust the brand, and the staff to help if I run into any issues. Love love love

They stole my money

I deposited £10 with them and decided to withdraw it because they wouldn’t verify my account, they wouldn’t give me my money back. They said I could get the funds back at first and that I needed to send a photo of my bank card, I did this and they still refused to give me my money. So now I have £10 in my online account that isn’t verified. My money has become their money just like that

Confusing Website and Zero Flexibility in Customer Service

I had a frustrating and disappointing experience during checkout. The website had a confusing “set as default shipping” button, which I assumed was for the address I had just entered. Instead, it suddenly switched to an alternate address that I no longer have access to, which only became apparent when I received the order confirmation email. Before that, the website simply displayed a message saying “saved address now set as default,” without showing the address it was referring to.

I contacted customer service within a minute of placing the order to request a correction to the delivery address, but they told me it wasn’t possible to make any changes. Now, my order is being sent to an address I cannot access, and I have no idea how I will retrieve it.

StarTrack, the delivery partner, won’t redirect the parcel unless delivery is missed, but since the option is automatically set to “authority to leave,” it’s unlikely to help.

The unclear website design and the refusal to assist with an immediate issue are shocking. This has left me feeling extremely frustrated and unsupported as a customer. I would strongly suggest revising both the website interface and customer service policies to provide better clarity and assistance.

Good online experience and fast regional delivery

I live in a regional nsw location and therefore purchase most of my gifts etc online. The online experience was great AND I received my package within 2 days when most other companies take a week or more to reach my location. I will be doing a lot more of my online shopping with Mecca from now on

Service is good-ish in my local store… but...

Service is good-ish in my local store BUT buying online is probably best avoided. Delivery is fast, granted, but I get the feeling they sent you crap or returned goods and you should probably go in the store and select your own off the shelf. e.g. my last purchase arrived with a damaged lid so 1/4 of the product was missing, much of which was also spilled all over the box it arrived in and the corner of the box was visibly wet. When I remailed, WITH photo evidence, they pretty much said tough luck but I could bring it in and they'd see what they could do. Well the whole reason I ordered online and didn't go in person was because being in cancer remission, I was not feeling up to shopping at the time. Sheesh.

Excellent customer service

17/11/24 I was served by a wonderful employee named Lauren at the Hobart shop. She helped me with some blusher brands. She gave me outstanding customer service and had great product knowledge. Lauren is an asset to Mecca.

Questionable data collection

Mecca blocks purchases if you’re using a VPN. I think the goal is to collect as much personal data as possible without giving sufficient ability to opt-out. They flagged my purchase as fraudulent which it clearly wasn’t, and as a result wanted bills and identification. As consumers we can’t monitor their data retention policies and how they are storing that kind of personal data.

I had them cancel the order and repurchased on my mobile. It’s pretty disturbing the amount of personal information they want to collect and store.

Bad experience with Mecca's online order

Negative experience with Mecca's online orders. Customer service sent an email saying that the order has been flagged by their online fraud system and asked for a copy of license and bank statement/bills otherwise order will be cancelled. Then stated that it takes 2 days for processing team to process it..... I called customer service and they said that there are a lot of cases they need to respond to and will take their time accordingly to process. I do think this is stupid..

Discrimination in Mecca Perth

I visited mecca perth for the first time today, due to recommendations by my colleagues and my experience was not a good one. On entering the store I went directly over to the Charlotte Tilbury makeup as I wanted to purchase my usual foundation, which I normally buy in the UK. There did not seem to be anyone who was aware of me so I approached an assistant and asked "excuse me could you possibly help me" her reply was "hold on I will get some one to help you". Immediately after I had asked this assistant a lady walked up beside me and asked the assistant for help and straight away she replied "yes of course how can I help you today " I was astounded , why did the assistant not say yes how can I help you to me ? I will tell you why , discrimination......she took one look at the way I was dressed and decided I wasn't worthy of her help. Having just left the gym, I was dressed in gym clothing, no make up and hair tied in a ponytail and the lady she assisted was dressed in a suit. I thought the world today had moved on from this sort of discrimination but clearly not in this store. For this assistant's information I spend $170 in total only because I needed it for work in a few hours as I am actually a Flight Attendant who visits Perth on a regular basis. Many of my colleagues frequent this store but i will be discouraging them in the future. I will not spend any money in this store in the future and will be purchasing my cosmetics elsewhere.

Negative online Mecca experience

I bought 3 Nars lipsticks online. 2 out of the 3 broke within the first week. One of the colours was my favourite and had no choice to wear it, when broken as I had no time to visit city store (this matt lipstick is not sold at my local Mecca Chatswood or W Mall store) to get it replaced. I emailed chat online tonight and they refused to exchange the 2 lipsticks even though they were within the 60 days buying period. I was told they look warn and I should have contacted them when it broke. She also mentioned how did I apply the lipstick??? Implying I broke it when applying? Even though I was a loyal customer for many years this was not considered and she refused to accept the product was faulty. I simply had no time to contact or go into a city store to replace them sooner. 👎🏼Mecca

Paid for a sunscreen that took over a…

Paid for a sunscreen that took over a month to arrive. Contacted support but only got asked to wait week after another week….. could have sent me another and ask me to send the original back to save some time. But they wouldn’t do it. And also the didn’t put on the website that the sunscreen is tinted. I wanted a clear one.

Floored Online Ordering Process

Ordered a selection of items online. Received the initial email advising they had received my order. Heard nothing for six days. When I logged onto my account via their website, I could see they had cancelled my order. No communication to advise me why. Apparently they had

cancelled the $228 order as I hadn't responded to their email asking for further information, to establish it wasn't a fraudulent order. This email I didn't receive. I now have to wait weeks for a refund. I will never place an online order with them again. Their fraud protection process is floored as they don't communicate with the customer.

Omg MECCA IS THE BEST

Omg! Mecca was by far the best shop that i have been to in a long time!!! I got a professional colourist to recommend some brands for me and i LOVE THEM! The people there are sooooooooooo helpful and they ALL have good manners! THEY SHOULD ALL GET A RAISE!!

I am a Mecca "Purchaser" flagged by there software as a scammer. Laughable

This is possible the worst online experience I have ever had. My daughter purchased products online and was subsequently sent an email saying her purchase had been flagged as a scam purchase and that she would be required to submit a drivers license, utility bill, passport, photo id, bank statement etc. I immediately thought that this was an identity fraud situation and that she had purchased on scamming website. The unbelievable thing is that we are the purchaser being told we are scammers and that our order will be cancelled. We supplied a legitimate address, name and bank card. In my 50 years I have never heard of such a thing. The customer service team advised me if I didn't provide the they would cancel my order. They were not interested. My concern is to myself and others that the scamming software now flags this information to other sites and facilities which there email states they will do. I will never purchase another product from Mecca again and will advise all my daughters friends and parents that there information they supply in there purchase is not safe if they get picked up by software that clearly doesn't work.
