Price was cheaper than my renewal quote…
Price was cheaper than my renewal quote so that was main reason even though was not so much by the time i had to add on the same cover i had before. Been REC member since 2009 so maybe it will remain cheaper for loyalty

Completely opaque cancellation charges
I took out this policy knowing I might need to cancel it early, so I specifically checked the cancellation cost beforehand. A £45 cancellation fee was disclosed, but there was no clear indication that I would also be charged a separate, non-refundable £45 “intermediary services fee” on cancellation.
After less than two months of cover, I was told I owed £39.66 for the cover used, plus the £45 intermediary fee, plus another £45 cancellation fee, bringing the total to £129.66.
The customer service made it even worse. The first adviser told me an additional monthly payment had to be collected and that I would need to prove I had sold the car to receive a refund. When I questioned where this appeared in my policy, he ended the chat before cancelling it. The next adviser gave me a completely different explanation and repeatedly avoided providing a clear breakdown of how the pending payment would be accounted for.
The charges may be buried somewhere in the policy documents, but they were absolutely not presented transparently when I checked the cost of cancelling. Charging both a £45 intermediary fee and a £45 cancellation fee feels excessive, and the contradictory, evasive customer service has completely destroyed my trust in the company.

Good service during an accident, but beware after.
EDIT 12/08/2026: I've had to downgrade my rating somewhat, not impressed at all. It seems, though my car was safely and securely parked and I wasn't even in it and it was hit by another driver, my insurance policy has gone up, as I have been informed today. Needless to say, this will definitely mean I'll explore other options for insurance in the future. Really disappointed that I am deemed guilty through a no-fault accident by increasing my fees. It's greed. They would or should have recovered 100% of the costs from the real guilty party.
Prior to 12/08/2026: Fantastic company, easy to deal with and made taking out new insurance and breakdown cover so simple and clean. The only experience I have had with a car insurance company where I feel they are truly trying to save me money since my instalment's go down each year. A recent no-fault accident was dealt with fast and took all the anxiety out of trying to sort it out. Highly recommend them.

Appalling customer service and…
Appalling customer service and overcharged by over £74
I am extremely concerned and frustrated with my experience with RAC Car Insurance. Over the last 14 days, I have been trying to resolve an issue where I was overcharged by more than £74, which was taken directly from my account.
Trying to get support has been practically impossible. The online chat service is completely useless as it only connects to an automated bot, and I cannot find a direct phone number to speak to a real person to request my money back. On top of that, I have sent two separate emails to RAC and have received zero response.
Taking extra funds without providing a clear, accessible way for customers to resolve billing errors or request a refund is completely unacceptable. I need this rectified and my money returned immediately.

What ever you do keep away from this RIP OFF company
What ever you do don't take online insurance with this rip off company when you come to change vehicle the price goes up massively so you look round and find a really good price with a company but still have a couple of months left you go to cancel but charge you £45 for the pleasure but you can't speak to a real person this company is a complete RIP OFFand and i will never ever buy another policy or anything from them again
