I contacted RenoFi after several unsuccessful attempts to get financing through other lenders for a big renovation on my home. The online application was easy to use and took me about an hour to complete. I worked with several RenoFi team members for the appraisal/feasibility study and contractor diligence. Everyone I engaged with was responsive and helpful, especially Eli Gross. He supported me from beginning to end and was upfront and transparent about each step of the process. The lender RenoFi identified for me was also easy to get in touch with and quickly moved my application through underwriting and closing, and I closed on my HELOC in less than 30 days. For me, the experience went really smoothly. If ever I have to do another renovation project, I'm going to reach out to RenoFi first.

Josh at RenoFi was fast, responsive, and very helpful in our loan process. The entire experience was a couple of weeks and much easier than expected. A+

UPDATE: Renofi followed up with me to tell me that they had "escalated my issue" and that a manager would look at the problems doing our work, and that I'd get a follow up call soon. I never got a call, and when I followed up on it myself, I got zero response. I have to move my review from 2 stars to 1 star.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Renofi turned out to be more hassle than it was worth and made mistakes along the way that are going to perhaps cost us thousands of dollars.

After initially uploading my documents, I waited three weeks with no response. After following up, I was told that my file needed to be transferred to another customer assistant. From there, the process went fairly smoothly. We were well qualified and easily qualified for the amount we needed, which included a contingency built in by the builder. I was assured by the Renofi agent that the contingency would be built into the loan, because both our credit scores and the value of the house left our loan well below the 90% threshold.

Unfortunately, that's where things got bad. Renofi never checked with the actual lender they referred us to, and (at least according to Renofi) that lender had a policy to not approve loans for above the exact estimate amount. So despite the fact that our builder included a contingency AND that we would have qualified for the additional funds including the contingency, we were only allowed to borrow the exact amount of the loan.

When I contacted Renofi about this, we were told that they "didn't know the lender had changed policies" and there was nothing they could do. I contacted the lender and was told by them that this was the exact amount quoted by Renofi and their appraiser, so they couldn't give me any more. I'm honestly not sure who is lying to me.

After informing Renofi of the mistake, I was told thatI could, of course, apply for a personal loan (at a MUCH higher rate and a significantly shorter repay time) for any contingency.

So now I'm left feeling scammed. In the best reading of this situation, Renofi didn't do their due diligence and I'm left to pay. In the worst reading of it, they underrequested the amount I needed in order to put us under the gun so they could get a higher rate loan for any contingency. Either way, the advantage I assumed I was getting by being able to keep our initial loan rate and financing only the renovation was not worth the hassle caused by Renofi. I wish I could write something better, but it is what it is.

RenoFi is genius!

We’re doing a major renovation of our home and RenoFi has been awesome.

They offer great renovation loans (we opted for the flexibility of the RenoFi HELOC), their website and portal are intuitive and easy to use, and, perhaps most importantly, they have Josh Kelly - our renovation advisor and master of his craft: accessible, friendly, and extremely helpful.

Ruben T. and Demi V. were outstanding. Ruben is courteous, knowledgeable, and very patient. He did not pressure me to use RenoFi, but he did answer all questions truthfully and checked in with me occasionally to check on our status as we completed the requirements needed to obtain our loan (permits, contractor selection, plans development, etc). Demi was very helpful in accomplishing some short timeframe requirements to successfully jump a couple of hurdles. I have already recommended RenoFi to other homeowners considering renovations and my original mortgage broker who could not find a suitable HELOC through local banks.

Josh was great and made the experience a smooth one. Appreciated his help!

Alicia was amazing from start to finish. We had a few challenges that made it difficult to find the right lender but she was persistent and found the right one for us. She was very transparent on the process and I felt always responded quickly to my questions. I really was amazed at how responsive she was, even on a Friday at 5pm. Would highly recommend RenoFi to friends.

I really enjoyed working with my representative Elias Gross. I experienced great communication and support throughout the entire loan process from Mr. Gross and his team. I believe Renofi provides a service in their industry that simplifies the process and makes it comfortable for all end users. I would absolutely work with them again in the future!

We were mid-project on a whole house renovation, when it became clear our budget projections were significantly off. We wanted to preserve our lower fixed-rate mortgage but every other lending option for construction loans required they take over our full home mortgage. That was a losing proposition considering current rates are 2.5-3% higher than what we have.

Then we got introduced to Renofi!

We worked with Eli Gross to build our application. He’s highly responsive, thorough, and transparent. Eli was a great guide throughout the process.

Once our application was with the bank, we had final approval within 2 weeks and closed on our home equity loan a few weeks later.

Fast, knowledgeable, and quick to follow the process. Your advisor is quick to respond to any questions you have. Mid-way through my project my scope increased and it was not part of the original estimate, my advisor was quick to propose solutions that fit my budget.

Being our first home renovation, we experienced some cost overruns and wanted to finance them rather than cutting corners. Josh and his team were able to help me gather the necessary information to secure a loan to cover the costs. A straightforward and painless process!

Avoid Renofi for your HELOC or home renovation financing needs. They caused significant delays, lacked professionalism, and made us start from scratch multiple times. Their employees gave vague answers and were unresponsive when needed, and we ultimately received a flat-out rejection with no time or options. Our experience was a complete nightmare and a waste of time and money. Look elsewhere for financing.
