Despite noticing negative reviews, I decided to try The Resume Writing Group. Unfortunately, my experience validated those reviews:

Initially...the resume looked great, despite its coloring which was too bright....but could be changed. Upon receiving their resume, I explained to them in writing that it looked great...BUT that I was still reviewing it...carefully.

Upon careful review...I found problems, which they fixed in addition to the color.

After initially being "happy" with my corrected resume, and uploading it to job boards and sending it out...I found more serious problems...with the employment date formatting they had used. However, I only found this out AFTER the job board ATS read and published it...and I had double-checked what was actually showing up on the job boards.

The specific issues with my resume were:

• My resume too (like others reported) had typos that spellcheck didn't catch, suggesting poor proofreading or their English language skills aren’t up-to-par.

A "DRAFT" resume from a professional resume writer should not have typos. Changes...Yes. Typos...No.

• They poorly rewrote one job description. Their revision made no sense and suggests they didn’t understand what the original description meant.

Again, the wording should have at least made sense in the draft resume...even if it needed changing. They are supposed to be professional resume writers.

• They removed my technical skills section, claiming it was outdated (which it wasn't). A recruiter I have known for years was horrified when she heard they had done this....as for my role...technical skills DO matter and are searched on by recruiters.

• The color scheme had thick, bright blue borders and lines, not geared to a business resume.

• The employment dates were changed from month/year to year. Once I tried uploading the final resume to job boards…I found out that it messed the work experience sequence up when being read by ATS (which is what they were supposed to fix). Unless the month is specified, ATS perceives a year to be the first month of the year.

I had two positions in 2020. By their using 2020 as the start and end date for both positions on the resume? They were both read by the ATS job boards as starting in January....which they didn't.

Their failure to update employment dates correctly caused issues with ATS scanning. I am still fixing the job board uploads.

Obviously I didn't know this could happen if dates were put in this way...but THEY should have known this. That's what they're selling...their professional resume writing...and their ability to make resumes ATS compatible.

• They promised to improve ATS readability but failed to demonstrate any improvement after revisions…despite my asking them to rerun the report so that I could gauge the level of improvement.

Funny how the respondent to this complaint omitted the fact that I had requested this and that they had refused to run it.

So they reel people in by showing them a report of all their resume's supposed flaws...but then never rerun the report to show how they fixed those flaws.

And then I found out subsequently that their fix caused a serious employment dates problem with the very ATS job boards they are charging me to successfully navigate.

So of course I was no longer "happy" with them at that point. That's a no-brainer.

• I had to redo my resume on all of the job boards I’d uploaded it to, due to critical errors.

I must say that they made all the changes I caught/requested at the time...and that some aspects of the rewrite were quite good.

However well-written content doesn’t matter much if a resume has typos and incorrect dates in it. That’s enough to land it in the NO pile.

I have fixed my resume so that I can use it...and am STILL fixing the job boards I uploaded their version to.

When presented with my negative review here...they deliberately took my emails out of context...completely omitting the fact that I had said I was still reviewing their work, and omitting the fact that I had also asked them for the resume assessment rerun.

Overall, I can't recommend The Resume Writing Group. In my opinion...they're an expensive scam.

I'm not going to fight with them to get the 150 I spent on the resume back. Nor am I going to fight with them to get the 50 back that I spent for them to post their version of my resume online for recruiters.

Instead? I am warning others...who will check TrustPilot first like I did.

Maybe they will be in the lucky 98% of satisfied customers...or maybe they'll be in the unlucky 2% like I and others were.

I'm just glad that I subsequently thought to check the output of their resume on the job boards...where errors matter...and found the problem before I was damaged further by it.

I have not interviewed for decades and only had a older indeed resume. I am also changing careers and wanted my presence seen in the new industry.
Amy put that all together in a great cover letter, impressive resume and really sharp LinkedIn profile.

Now I can go interview finding a position faster and better than I not had Amy's expertise to showcase me at my best.

I'm extremely unhappy with the resume and cover letter I received from this company. The resume had typos—two of them! And I had already applied for some jobs with a typo-ridden resume. The cover letter was AI-generated, yet Rita still made a mistake by repeating the same content for two different positions. The cover letter sounded so boring and machine-made that I'm going to throw it in the trash. The layout is extremely outdated. Do not waste your precious money and time with this company! They will go down the drain.

The process was fast and produced the resume I needed.

My experience with the Resume Writing Group, and specifically Amy, was very positive. My resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile were completely re-vamped, and does a much better job at describing my accomplishments using updated templates, which should help me stand out among others. My questions and proposed changes were quickly addressed, and I'm happy with my overall experience.

It's...ok. Their customer service is decent. Quick response time, so that is a plus.

The resume itself doesn't seem to be anything special. The first draft was just downright awful, and they were very quick to revise it. Feedback I got from recruiters and hiring managers on first draft: "It's too busy. It's hard to read. Needs to be more to the point and easier to see experience."

After 3 revisions, i got something workable, but still feel as if I could've written this myself for free. I think this service is good for people who do not have strong writing skills and where written articulation is not a strong suit.

With all of that being said, I understand their money back guarantee. I will spell it out for you, as it is not super apparent at first pass on their website.

Money back guarantee ONLY IF you mail via certified (or fax) a hard copy of your resume to 40 executives within your field. This seems very antiquated which makes me think they did that on purpose so they wouldn't have to pay out. My opinion has been validated by hiring professionals that I have gotten feedback from on this practice. This is 2024.

Agreed that you should use any avenue possible, but this particular benchmark for money back seems to be rather absurd. Smart business move though on their part.

In short, it's a decent service if you don't know what you're doing or are just starting out. Do i think it was worth the money I paid for this service? Not for me personally. I have to finish sending out my hard copies to get my money back, as it's going on 45 days and still nothing. Well played Resumewriters. well played.

I was very disappointed with the service offered by Resume Writing Group. The resume Ryan provided was poorly designed, with cramped text and excessive blocks of capital and bold letters that gave the impression of shouting at the reader. Furthermore, their e-resume service merely provides a link to the document and does not retain updated versions of the file. Not only did they fail to deliver a quality resume, but their cover and thank you letters were almost a replica of each other riddled with lengthy lists of core competencies already listed on my resume. It lacked overall professionalism. They simply took huge sections of the cover letter and pasted it into the thank you letter. It was evident that they lacked expertise in crafting effective job application letters.
Additionally, I find their pricing exorbitant for the subpar service provided. Despite providing feedback and suggestions, they seemed unwilling to listen or make necessary revisions. On one occasion I had to send three messages asking for one simple change to be done. This change was only done on my third email, four days later. This I found to be a little unprofessional and a rather slow process.

Overall, I would not recommend Resume Writing Group to anyone seeking professional resume writing assistance.
