Very easy to open policy

I was very happy with how easy it was to open a policy with SBLI. Also, the quote was better than my previous insurance

Unfortunately

Unfortunately, without any notification, SBLI withdrew my checking account for seven months worth of insurance payments and allowed my account to go insufficient funds. They actually owed me money so what they should’ve done was made a deposit into my account and then withdraw what they wanted instead of withdrawing First horrible experience.!

Poor Communication

I have put in a claim for my father's life insurance policies which he paid diligently for more than 60 years in one case. After a month, there is still no response from SBLI. I have also written two emails to customer service about this claim and neither email received a response. I am disappointed with the standard of communication from a company my father trusted.

Flustered it with no response or…

I have made multiple requests for comprehensive documentation regarding the standard life insurance policy pertaining to myself and my wife, including the accidental death coverage. However, I have not received any response to date.

Mixed experience

Although it has been some 20 years since I last obtained a Term Life policy from SBLI, my experience this time was different. Last time obtaining a policy was easy. I am a relatively low risk customer. Based on my history the agent told me he thought I might not need any follow up medical exam. Not only did I need to do the medical exam (which was relatively painless), I had to do an extensive interview with a representative who was not the agent. The interview involved medical questions (ok) but also extensive questions about my finances. I'm not sure how this is a legitimate path of inquiry for a life insurance company. It might be worth investigating if a claim is made and there are irregularities, but to bind a policy in the first place? When I asked the interviewer why I had to answer these questions, she said she didn't know and SBLI 'just tells me what questions to ask.' Although I went through with taking out the policy to avoid restarting this process elsewhere, SBLI lost some trust with me during this process.
