Very disappointing experience due to inaccurate information, serious faults appearing almost immediately after purchase, and extremely poor after-sales customer service.

I travelled over five hours to purchase a BMW 1 Series from The Car Guys after relying on the information provided in the advertisement. The car appeared to drive well during the test drive, and I noticed no unusual noises.

The advertisement also stated that the car came with 12 months' AA breakdown cover and a 6-month warranty. However, after purchasing the vehicle, I was told that this information should not have been included in the advertisement. I was given what I considered to be a very poor excuse that it “shouldn't have been in there”. Regardless of how it ended up in the advert, it was clearly part of the information I relied on when considering the purchase, and I found the explanation completely unacceptable.

Approximately two hours after purchase, once I reached motorway speeds, I discovered what sounded like a severely worn wheel bearing. Shortly afterwards, the engine management light also came on.

When I arrived home, I found a code reader under the rear seat. Using it, I identified a MAF-related fault, which raised concerns that fault codes may have been cleared before the vehicle was sold.

I contacted the dealership promptly and explained the issues, making it clear that I was seeking their assistance in resolving the problems rather than immediately demanding a refund. Unfortunately, I received no response.

I subsequently took the vehicle to a garage for inspection, where the following faults were identified:

• Faulty wheel bearing• Both rear shock absorbers blown• Both front D-joint bushes perished

Despite contacting the dealership again and giving them an opportunity to respond, I have still been unable to obtain a satisfactory response regarding these issues.

The lack of accurate information about the vehicle, the incorrect information regarding the advertised AA breakdown cover and warranty, and the poor communication after the sale have been extremely disappointing.

I travelled a considerable distance to purchase the car and would have expected much better customer service when serious faults became apparent almost immediately after purchase. Instead, I have been left chasing the dealership for a response.

I would strongly recommend that potential buyers carry out a thorough independent inspection before purchasing and carefully check exactly what is included in the advertisement, as my experience was that the advertised information did not match what I was subsequently told after the sale.

Recommended...but do your own due diligence

I bought from The Car Guys around New Year 2026...so pushing 7 months ago.
They sold me a 2018 435d and I px'd a 2014 TT Convertible Black Edition.

The price of the BMW was extremely competitive and the px offer was fair.

The 435d has been superb. Great quality tyres and looks a million dollars

Sadly at MOT time in July it failed on some front suspension bits and bobs but there was no clue from driving it as the mot guy confirmed. I rate TCG very highly and would use again.

Some of the ridiculous negative reviews are hard to believe
"The tyres were bald!" Why didn't you check them moron?

"It might have been clocked" Didn't you do your own online checks beforehand you idiot?

"When it rained I noticed stonechips". FFS

Do your checks beforehand re mileage, history etc. Its cheap and easy.
Check the car thoroughly and properly. Its a big investment.
Check the tyres, discs, pads, electrics.

Its not hard.

The 435d I bought was thoroughly checked by me and has been a very good car and a fair deal.

Its no good whatsoever doing research after you've bought it then moaning about the dealer.

If you want absolute certainty then pay 50% more at a registered brand dealer

Traveled from Kent to pick up a car then when I got home it was leaking oil then went and looked at the past MOT report and said it has a leak then when I phoned about it got told to use Autoguard. This should of been fixed before sale plus I had to wait 5 weeks for log book

Either they're con men, or they're selling crap

Apparently my wife has been made redundant so can't afford the payments so the sale fell through.

Truth, they're allowing finance to be taken out on modified cars, informing buyers that there is a fault present but won't rectify it, then getting out of the sale by claiming the vehicle has engine failure. For anyone buying FH16LNR BMW 220d, it has engine failure, the brake discs are "not in the best condition" and it can't have finance on it because it's modified.

But then..... If you ask the garage to update the iDrive with the service, and replace the brake discs, the sale gets cancelled and your character slandered.

Good luck car guys when I pass your actions on to the FCA and your finance partners.

Please avoid to save yourself from stress

I bought a car from these guys a couple of years ago and from day 2 it started giving me coolant problems. I let them know and they referred me to the warranty company and after that they stopped replying to my messages. From that point on the car gave me constant issues, some were covered by warranty and some weren't. Finally got rid of the car but I would never ever go back to these guys ever again.

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid - Worst Garage Experience

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid

IMPORTANT - I'm not one to leave bad reviews, but this is seriously warranted.

Customer Reviews - read their Google business reviews. It's almost all 1 star shocking reviews with real context, or 5 star generic reviews. To remove bias and add credibility - below is Google AI answer to that trend. You decide.

'A Google Business Profile dominated almost entirely by 1-star and 5-star reviews—with very few in between—is a major red flag that often indicates fake reviews or review manipulation. This pattern, known as polarized reviews, suggests a lack of authentic, average customer experiences. In reality, most businesses have a mix of 3 and 4-star experiences.'

My -5 Star Experience:

I purchased a Merc E Class Convertible that looked great and the short test drive was fine. But....and that's a big BUT...

The issues started after a few days and got worse over a few weeks/months. I complained like others but emails got ignored completely and calls were just fobbed off. It was clear they didn't care and had a playbook for complaints.

The engine light come on within days. The third-party cover wasn't worth having - just gives 'the guys' a tool to deflect blame.

Electrical issues - the car would just cut out completely whilst driving. Roof issues - clear long-term damp/mould under the boot floor that any credible garage would have known about.

Body Work Bodge - Paint scratches, chips started to show after heavy rain/cleaning. Clearly bodged over.

Flaking Paint / Bodged Black Grill/Rims - within weeks the black paint on the front grill/merc symbol and alloys started flaking off, exposing the original chrome. Professional advice from authorised garages said it was recently added as it would never last long. Others have experienced the same on here and car dealers know this stuff. So DON'T be fooled by their wide selection of Black Trim vehicles.

Car Photo / Spec - the car pics and spec on their website were actually a different almost identical car (again, freshly painted black trim etc.). But this car had the Merc Airscarf seats (air vents in the seats). The car I purchased didn't have that. I guess they missed that.

Merc Recall - within weeks I got a Merc recall letter that was issued previously, but not dealt with. This was a Merc fault and Merc covered the cost. These things do happen. But...everyone else in the trade knew about this - just not these 'guys'.

MOT/Mileage Concerns - after getting more advice (from 2 different garages and a trusted friend who's an experienced senior car tech for a major brand) they all suspected the car mileage was clocked. You cant be 100% if/when/who done this to be clear, but collectively it doesn't look good along with everything else. On reviewing the printed MOT certs they supplied the mileage was clearly changed by someone. It's hard to believe a Garage wouldn't have picked up on this if they purchased the car like this. So at worst case they should have mentioned it. But again, 'the guys' didn't.

I could go on, but I would strongly not recommend this garage. Silly me for not doing my homework - hindsight's a wonderful thing.

They gave me a great price for my car in part exchange (more than any others) and they got me a lower rate on the finance. Thank you for your honesty TCG. Very honest and very helpful. The cars been spot on mechanically perfect.

The Worst Dealer I have ever dealt with.

I bought a car from this bunch in August of 2024, A Vauxhall Insignia Elite, which I had been looking for for a few weeks. The car was high mileage, but i figured that with FSH, it would be good to go. When I went to collect the car, i was told it had been his fathers car and that they had been the owners for over 18mths, which i later found out to be a lie. The car was purchased with an aftermarket warranty from AutoGuard. When i got the car on the motorway home, the active suspension was not working. I reported this to them and after 10 days of phone calls, they told me get quotes, which I did. The repairs proved to be expensive, and they did not want to pay the costs, so told me to go through the warranty. AutoGuard said, 'Not Covered'. However, this was only the beginning of my issues with the dealer. After 10wks of ownership, the Cam Tensioner failed, destroying the engine (6 valves, 3 pistons, Cam followers etc etc). The Car Guys were not remotely interested, and the warranty was again useless. The dealership quoted retail lawa over and over when i called, saying they are only responsible for 30 days after purchase. The cost to me £6500 plus. Fortunately, my bank, who i financed the car through, have agreed to pay the costs for repairs. I hope they also decide to pursue some re-embursement from the dealer. There is a distinct lack of both care and/or interest in their customers. I never recieved a call back, i had to chase them, nobody called me the day i bought the car to see if i got home ok, and since i reported the engine failure, i have not had a single call either. I would never use them or recommend them again. In my opinion , the worst car dealership i have ever dealt with or come accross.

I bought an Audi Q3 from this company at the end of January 2024..All seemed fine until 3 months in I noticed chips of paint coming away from the black front grill I assumed it was stone chippings..How wrong I was !!..the paint literally started peeling away I took it to a specialist spray company who said that they had simply sprayed over the chrome grill to make it look aesthetically pleasing ..Upon closer inspection the paint is now peeling off the black alloys as well another cheap job done in order to sell the car .It is now going to cost me hundreds to rectify including a new feint grill as you should never spray over a chrome grill..Feel like I was conned !!..check carefully before you buy !!

Well what good can I say about The Car…

Well what good can I say about The Car Guys? Well the answer is Zero.
Got my car in February 27th 2023 & took to my friends garage on 20th March 2023. They done a Vehicle health check & came up with 11 Fault codes.
A few more months down the line & now I have issues with my Lane assist radar sensor.
Took it to a independent Mercedes specialists & found that the wiring loom had been badly repaired, need a new sensor.
They also found out the my car had a NSF wing had been in an accident which was poorly repaired, they used tiger seal to fix the bumper to the wing & there are missing or broken items.
The wheels had been wet painted & the paint has started to flake & peel.
Also I have just been told that the near side headlight has broken fixings on the bottom of headlight & needs a New headlight cost £850 + fitting.
All this work is because the car had a near side accident & certain parts were Not replaced.
Getting all this put wright will cost £4,500.
WHAT A BUNCH OF COWBOYS
SO IF I WAS YOU, I WOULD STAY WELL CLEAR OF THIS GARAGE & WOULD NOT TOUCH THEM WITH A BARGE POLE.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Brilliant company

Brilliant company. Had my car over a year now and done some serious miles in iItaly I've not had a problem. The prices of the cars aren't extortionate but the stock is wicked. Performance and high end cars for decent prices. They will talk you through finance and warranty plans clearly so you fully understand them. Highly recommended!!

Steer clear of these cowboys - they will sell you a heap & lie to you constantly

We bought a 20k BMW 430 from these jokers. After driving away there was the following

Severe shaking of vehicle when breaking at speed.
Clicking noise coming from NSF wheel while driving
Drivetrain Fault
Bald back tyres - through to the thread.
Incorrect locking wheel nut

When we bought the vehicle from them we were promised It on a Friday, were delayed severely in having delivery of the vehicle, they didn't keep their word or keep in contact. we had to change our plans & had to fly up to Scotland instead of driving, we were told that we would receive an extra £200 to my account as compensation for the delay & also all the problems which took months to get fixed.

They just ignored calls, the don't even get into the office until 11am ish.

180 point inspection my backside. The car was shoddy & we ended up selling it for 2k less than we paid for it.

A week late on a trip to Scotland, 13 days of hire car. out of pocket £2500. Loss in car value £2000, Total loss caused by this excuse for a dealership 4.5k & they couldn't even be bothered to pay the £200 that was agreed by the management!!
