Stumbled upon this company by chance when browsing online. I’m always reluctant to use a company I’ve never heard of, especially for online purchases. However, the service and communication was prompt and efficient. Delivery of my purchase arrived on time. I’m very satisfied with my experience.

I have bought lots from Utility over time, especially when I lived near Liverpool, and I have always received great service. But, I ordered a USM trolley in olive at the end of May with a 4-6 week production time and it took more than 14 weeks to arrive. I had to get in touch several times to receive an update, which was disappointing. It was a USM production issue and as a gesture of good will Utility did match a lower price after the order and I got in touch. The trolley looks great and I am really happy with it. I have also ordered from Utility on-line again as overall I think they deserve it.

The shelves we wanted were in stock On Utility Design, while they had several weeks lead time on other websites. Delivery was super speedy post purchase, and goods were very carefully wrapped ( and no plastic was used , which was a plus)

Wanted this to be a good experience but it didn’t work for us. Wrong product delivered and lots of inconvenience and hassle. Utilitydesign seems to be little more than a middle man and, whilst they answer the phone promptly and are polite, they have no flexibility to offer any help when something goes wrong as they are presumably working off small margins. In summary, this company added no value and we’ve ended up getting very fed up, asking for a refund and going to the supplier direct,
Update following retailer response: thanks for your reply. But the lamp doesn’t come in the same box, we received a small box clearly labelled desk lamp, when we’d ordered a floor lamp. We placed the order in June and waited until August for delivery, which was also problematic (it seems others have also had issues with FedEx). After all the delay, phone calls and additional admin this has caused us you were able to offer nothing other than an apology.

I have ordered several times from this company and every time the goods have been despatched promptly, securely packed and in excellent condition. Customer Services are quick to respond, friendly and pragmatic if there's a problem. Utility Design are my first choice of source when I want to find good quality, interesting pieces for home or garden and I'm pleased they sell European companies such as Vitra which saves a trip to Weil am Rhein! ;) (which seriously, we have done in the past). I wouldn't hesitate to suggest Utility to a friend.

My only issue is that when they use FedEx the delivery company is unreliable and unpredictable. We have found this several times when other companies use FedEx as a courier. Hence four stars instead of five.

I was sent a substandard item (a small crate). I complained and, somewhat disappointingly, was told to expect a partial refund (£2 of the £5 I was charged for the crate) but even that failed to materialize.

UPDATE: Immediately following posting of this review Utilitydesign responded and appear to have fixed the refund non-materialization problem.

After ordering I was slightly disappointed to be notified that the product I wanted was out of stock - especially as it was to be a present. The estimated delivery time was put back to several weeks!
However, the company redeemed itself with an unexpectedly rapid turn around, the gift arriving unexpectedly just over a week later.
The article in question, a carved wooden Snoopy figurine, was beautifully made and expertly packaged and the recipient was thrilled with it.

I was quoted 8 weeks delivery time by a store in Derby so started to look online. Ordered online on Tuesday delivered Friday!!! Extremely well packaged and delivered slightly before time quoted. Despite being well packaged there was a small scratch on the cabinet. I notified customer services immediately and they offered a refund. Exceptional service which is a miracle these days!

Helpful advice and rapid processing/delivery following an enquiry regarding the Hay 'Dapper' chair. A team member alerted me, via e-mail, to a chair which was in stock and substantially discounted. I decided to go with it (the fabric colour was perfect) and the chair was delivered less than 48 hrs later. I'm very happy with the item and also with the purchasing experience with Utility Design.
