The loan was settled within a few days but was a bit of a mess around, had to go to manual review, verification didn’t work, they then cancelled and resubmitted the loan. Just small things that made the process less than ideal but we got there in the end.

I arranged finance with Alex Bank through a broker for the purchase of a new car.

I completely understand their requirement for comprehensive insurance before settlement. That's sensible. However, their policy requires the insurance to commence on the day they transfer the funds (which happens overnight), rather than the day the customer actually takes delivery of the vehicle.

Under that policy, I would have been paying for insurance on a car that I didn't own and couldn't collect. The dealership quite rightly won't release the vehicle until settlement has occurred, and the vehicle remains covered under the dealership's insurance until I take delivery anyway.

Thankfully, common sense eventually prevailed and the issue was resolved. However, had it not, I would have had to either cancel and rewrite my insurance policy or delay settlement simply to comply with an internal process. Neither outcome would have benefited me, the insurer, the dealership or the bank.

I think Alex Bank should review this policy, as it creates unnecessary costs, delays and frustration for customers. It's also something prospective borrowers should be aware of when arranging finance so they can avoid unexpected issues during settlement.
