We spent around £5000 for two to travel to El Dorado Royale in Mexico. It is absolutely awful. I mean, terrible. We chose this resort for beach and snorkelling and found we could not actually go in the sea here. Not even to wade in. It’s red flagged and unsafe due to massive numerous ugly concrete pyramids (about ten foot high each) placed all along the full stretch of the coast at this resort, apparently to avoid storm erosion. It’s extremely disappointing that we were not told this as it completely spoils the holiday. Maybe some people are happy not to have access to sea and sand when at a beach resort, though I can’t imagine going to a beach resort if so, but we should have been advised so we can choose. We would never have come here if this was made clear.

Additionally, the resort is made up of three hotel areas joined together which means having to walk about a mile (no joke) to restaurants. These long treks were often in the pouring rain as we have travelled in late September - though we don’t mind a bit of rain it was tiring to have to get soaking wet and then sit in a restaurant to then have to walk for 20 minutes back to your room, all because there are insufficient golf carts to transfer people around. I’ve been ill from the food, the food is mediocre at best despite there being many restaurants (which are difficult to book) and the mini bar hardly gets refilled in 10 days (also despite asking politely when it hadn’t been refilled by day 5). The focus is on the members club they have here (seems to consist of elderly Americans who tip to the extreme) so you’re made to feel unimportant if you’re not part of that visitor base. We were told at one point we could not get on a covered golf cart with free space because we weren’t ‘members’ despite being drenched at that moment in a thunderstorm and the brolly we were carrying having broken in the extreme wind. We were simply left to battle the weather for about half a mile back to our room. These are just snippets of the overall awful experience. We have travelled extensively, so this stands out for all the wrong reasons and is far from what you’d expect given Blue Bay Travel described this as a beachfront 5 star hotel.
Terrible. Shame on you as a travel company for pushing this hotel. Just dire. Blue Bay Travel please, please know what horrendous holidays you are selling at this hotel. Please don’t sell it to anyone else.

I’m a nurse and I was unable to spend all day on the phone booking a holiday. The staff at Blue bay was fantastic. Sorting everything out for me, keeping me updated with everything and paying my deposit all over an email with no additional stress. Fantastic ( I’ve not been on my holiday yet so I’ll update after I’ve been 😜 ) Ha Ha Ha
