As someone who decided to embark on a career in UX, I found myself eagerly searching for resources that could help me kickstart my journey and better help me land a role. Enter the Dribbble Product Design Career Prep course, a somewhat elusive program without many reviews to rely on. Despite the lack of information, I decided to take a leap of faith and enroll. Here's my honest take on the course.
First and foremost, the course structure deserves praise. The mentor groups provided an excellent platform for learning, thanks in large part to the fellow course mates. Interacting and learning from them was invaluable, and their insights truly helped me grow as a designer. I can confidently say that I learned a great deal from my peers.
However, I must admit that my experience with the assigned mentor was a bit underwhelming. While they were decent, I discovered that reaching out to mentors from other groups proved more fruitful in terms of receiving feedback and improving my design skills. Perhaps the mentorship aspect could be more carefully curated to ensure consistency and quality across all groups.
During the enrollment process, I was under the impression that we would have the opportunity to practice interviewing, but that turned out to be a miscommunication. Instead, we received tips and pointers on interviewing techniques, but no mock interviews were conducted. This was a bit disappointing, as practical experience and guidance during interviews can be crucial in transitioning to a new career.
The initial three weeks of my mentor group were dedicated to analyzing case studies within the group. While this exercise allowed us to gain insights into what hiring managers consider a strong case study, it ran its course, delaying updating case studies for some. Although informative, I felt that this segment could have been more efficiently organized to avoid unnecessary delays.
On the content side, the videos presented by the course creator, Helen, were concise and easy to digest. I appreciated her effort in making herself available through the Slack channels, where we could reach out with questions and concerns. However, beyond the portfolio presentations and Slack interactions, I found it challenging to access additional guidance from Helen herself, as she advised that all feedback should come from the mentors. A more direct line of communication with the course creator could have been beneficial, especially for addressing specific queries or seeking clarification.
Overall, I would rate the Dribbble Career Prep course a 6/10. While it provided a solid foundation for aspiring product designers, there are areas that require improvement and updating. Enhancements in mentorship consistency, practical interview practice, and optimizing the course's timeline could make it a more comprehensive and effective learning experience.

I applied to the Dribbble Product Design course and Career Prep Course because I wanted to hone my craft as a product designer and to learn how to present myself to others in a confident way.

Pro:
Learning from others in that are active in the design field whether that be Jesse Showalter and Helen Tran or the wonderful Mentors has been game changing. It has allowed me to do hands on work and get feedback from people that I respect and truly know what they are talking about. The courses are very interactive and are packed with valuable content and lessons.

You get to work on your own projects and work on pieces that you are passionate about and that you can also use to promote yourself. Students are very open and interactive in the courses. I have even still spoken with classmates after graduating. There is a great support system and it really help to grow you confidence.

Con:
The job guarantee needs to be worked on, currently it requires two things that I think should be updated.

You have to attend all live sessions:
- This is difficult because you don't know the schedule before the course starts
- They are at varying time most not aligning with the time slot you provide during sign up as your dedicated course time. I understand that can't work because it is a live session but I think the requirement should be updated due to the fact that it can interfere with work hours and be impossible for some to attend.
- I believe Mentor sessions should be required but Live session you should have to prove that you watched it even if it is the recording it should count.

You have to attend one in person networking event a month:
- Many student in the course talked about how there are no in-person networking events near them even if they travel for an hour.
- There are very few in-person design focused networking options most I have found are online
- I believe this should simply be adjusted to include online events to allow for more purposeful connections

I recently completed Dribbble's Product Design Career Prep course and I must say it was an excellent investment towards preparing for a job in product design. The course offers practical and comprehensive guidance on the specific skills and knowledge required to excel in this field, including design thinking, user research, prototyping, and more. The mentors are experienced industry professionals who provided invaluable feedback and guidance throughout the course. With their help, I feel confident in my ability to showcase my design work and succeed in the competitive job market for product designers.

The course structure is well-organized, and the assignments are thought-provoking and engaging. The peer feedback system is also very effective in providing constructive criticism and encouragement. I found the mock interviews and portfolio review sessions particularly helpful in preparing for job interviews.

Overall, I highly recommend this course to anyone who is serious about pursuing a career in Product Design. It not only equips you with the technical skills required to succeed in this field, but also gives you the confidence and support you need to showcase your work and stand out in a competitive job market.

I liked the break up of tasks in Disco. But id like to see a structure or syllabus from the mentors teaching.

The course was new. We were all first-timers. Helen Tran is amazing. The content is great. She is super engaged via Slack. It's a great balance of guidance, support and push that you need to land your next role in the industry.

The course material was thorough, yet concise. Each week, I felt like I had learned something new to apply to my work, and became more excited about design. I loved having a mentor group as well.

learning ,designing and creating new case studies

The course is fast paced yet detailed, mentor sessions are practical and engaging. I'm not even halfway through the course and I can genuinely say it's worth the investment so far.

My mentor and the course materials were excellent, as were my cohort and the slack community. Just wish the course was a little longer.

In a world where robot support is abundant, it was really refreshing getting in touch with a support crew that understood my issue and resolved it immediately and generously.

Great and efficient support. I had to Google to find the correct email/Form but once I found it, great!

I am now very confident in using Figma although I never used it before. The combination of video lessons and weekly mentor sessions make it realy easy to understand everything and to keep you on track.

It has been a great course. I have learned all the steps of the creative process to create a UI design, how to create a UI library and a typography and color system, with good practices and the help of my mentor!

I'm currently a hairstylist who is looking for a new career that allows me to be creative. My husband is a software developer and tuned me into UI/UX. I first started with a UX heavy Google course, really enjoyed it and wanted to see if I would like UI just as much. The verdict is in...I absolutely love UI and this Dribbble class was a fantastic place to start.

If you're not in the tech industry and want to try it out or if you ARE in the tech industry but want to grow your design skills, this Dribble class is for you. It's a short course but very dense. Be ready for a slight learning curve at the beginning with a quick "lightbulb" moment to follow. Great mentors, super interactive slack channel and incredible teaching by Danielle Buffa. You won't regret this course or the cost attached!

Dribble is unfair. I created a Dribble page to showcase my work and possibly get new clients. I am a photographer and consider myself to be a designer. I tried to boost my exposure and paid for 2 subscriptions one for $60. and another for $30. For no reason, my profile was deleted. I wrote to Dribble support a few times and received no reply. I wrote to them again asking for an explanation and a refund and finally received a reply and a partial refund. They said I was not a designer and gave me a partial refund. I need to retrieve my files and requested such but have not received a reply. I think their practices are all wrong. Deleting a profile without taking a moment to explain is bad practice.

This is actually a spammer site masked as a web designer community website.

Once you subscribe, you won't ever be able to stop their emails. Unsubscribing doesn't help, they keep sending their trash to your inbox, and the worst part is that somehow they get through Google's spam filters.
