I am extremely disappointed with… Georgia Power

I am extremely disappointed with Georgia Power Company and the ongoing issues I have experienced with their billing department and customer service staff. My experience has been frustrating from start to finish.

Within a span of just three months, I had two separate payments withdrawn from my account even though I never set up auto pay. Each time I was told that auto pay was active, which I personally did not set up. I then had to go through the process of canceling something I never authorized in the first place, which should not have been necessary.

To make matters worse, my account had a zero balance when the second payments were taken. There was no reason for any additional charge, yet the payment was still processed. Even after their error, I was charged a $30 fee. Being charged fees for mistakes made on their end is completely unacceptable.

The lack of accountability and poor communication has made this an ongoing headache. It feels like customers are left to deal with repeated errors without real resolution or care.

I strongly recommend avoiding this company if you have any other option available in your area. The stress, time, and money spent trying to correct their mistakes is simply not worth it.

Abusive & Predatory

If I could leave zero stars, I would. I just moved into a 2,300 sq ft home serviced by Georgia Power, and my electricity bill has been nearly $800/month—for just two people living in the house. We already keep our thermostat at 76°F, we’re mindful of our usage, and we aren’t running anything excessive.

When I called customer service for help, I was told the following:
- I should keep my thermostat between 78–80°F at all times (in Georgia heat?!)
- I need to unplug everything from the wall if it’s not in use (seriously?)
- I should keep all the windows covered with blackout curtains during both summer and winter
- And that I basically need to live in the dark to lower my bill

Excuse me???

This is dystopian. I should not be expected to live like a vampire in a sweat lodge just to afford power in a home that isn't even that large. The fact that this is considered “normal” by Georgia Power is beyond concerning and the best they could tell me was "keep your home at 80 degrees".

Meanwhile, friends of mine in other parts of Georgia—with bigger homes and dual AC units—are paying 60-80% less than half of what I am through co-ops or EMCs. Georgia Power has a monopoly on certain areas, and they are abusing it with out-of-touch rate hikes and gaslighting customer service.

Horribly broken system absolutely abusing it's power and residents.
