I paid for a full four wheel alignment, but the vehicle was returned to me after only the front wheels had been aligned. The car immediately began pulling to one side. I returned it and the alignment was repeated, but again only on the front wheels. It was only on a later visit that I was told the rear bolts were seized, meaning the full alignment I had been charged for could not have been completed on either of the previous attempts.
Based on my experience, if you are not able to self verify that work has been performed to specification, you may wish to take your vehicle elsewhere. I was charged for work that could not have been completed, and was told it had been done when it had not.
terrible experience. I'm down money still - won't refund, then botch refund, i keep having to start the same complaint again from scratch because if you email them back they've auto-closed, etc. just awful.
Having been told my another centre to give the Sutton branch a call i did, the leave the line ringing and ringing pick it dont speak, out it down again and repeat several times. So i cut the call off and rung again same thing they leave it for ages then pick it up and put it back down and repeat, so again i cut the call and tried again after yet another near 10mins on my 3rd time somebody answered very rudely, and continued to be rude and grumpy whilst on the call, he really needn't of been so rude as I was polite to him. Clearly his customer service needs working on. I certainly wont be ringing or going to this branch
Sheffield (beighton one near tk max)
My husband took our Vauxhall zaffera in oil was leaking the man said I'm not even looking at it (after he told my husband to come in) it needs scraping!! My husband brought her home and watched some you tube vids and fixed her up all she needed was a seal change and she's fixed absolute waste of space that idiot was best part is he could have made some money that day but his arrogance got the better of him. Dumb ass
Had MOT, was given £600 worth of 'urgent repairs needed', then commissioned an independent assessment and told none applied.
Slow puncture due to nail - easy fix i thought but Halfords deemed the almost new tyre 'unrepairable' so charged me £300 for a new tyre. Took the 'unrepairable' tyre to Kwik Fit - easy job for them to repair and cost me less than £50 - seems Halfords policy is to sell new tyres rather than repair a simple puncture.
Avoid Halfords stockton at all costs. Their "health check" after a routine service flagged the wrong axle entirely — they told me my rear discs and pads needed replacing when it was actually the fronts that were crumbling away (in photo). I trusted their advice and paid over £500 for completely unnecessary work, as advised by another mechanic. When I complained, it took them over a full month for me to get any resolution by going back and forth on the chat service online. When they finally did, they just denied any wrongdoing rather than addressing the obvious error. No accountability, no urgency, no honesty. If you care about your money or your safety, take your car literally anywhere else. Absolutely useless "expert advice"
Unreliable MOT testers. Three consecutive years their MOT tester has failed to turn up at Halfords Brownhills. And three consecutive years their staff cannot be bothered with the courtesy of a quick call to advise us not to bother turning up.
Instead, they wait until you turn up to tell you that their MOT tester is a waste of space.
Three strikes, you’re out. Never using them for MOT again.
I WOULDN'T EVEN GIVE A 1*!!!!!!
I would strongly advise anyone to avoid Halfords Broadwater, Worthing.
I originally took my car to Halfords because the clutch pedal was intermittently sticking to the floor, which was both concerning and potentially dangerous. After diagnosing the issue, Halfords replaced the clutch at a cost of £624 and assured me that the problem had been resolved.
However, immediately after the repair, the exact same fault continued to occur. The clutch pedal would still intermittently stick down, making the vehicle difficult and unsafe to drive. We returned the car to Halfords on three separate occasions to report that the issue had not been fixed. On each visit, the vehicle was simply taken for a short test drive and returned to us, with no meaningful investigation or repair carried out despite us repeatedly explaining that the fault persisted.
The situation became significantly more serious when the fault occurred while I was driving on a dual carriageway. The clutch failed again, leaving me in a dangerous position and forcing me to switch the engine off completely and restart the vehicle in order to regain control. This should have been a major warning sign that the underlying issue had not been properly diagnosed or repaired.
To make matters worse, today the vehicle has completely broken down due to a hydraulic fluid leak, leaving it with no brake/clutch fluid. Fortunately, this happened in a car park rather than while driving at speed, as the consequences could have been far more serious. Prior to this breakdown, we had specifically asked Halfords to inspect the hydraulic system, including the master cylinder and slave cylinder, because we were concerned that the clutch issue could be related to a hydraulic fault. Despite raising these concerns multiple times, the problem appears to have been overlooked.
The most frustrating part is that we paid £624 for a clutch replacement that did not resolve the original issue. We repeatedly gave Halfords opportunities to investigate and rectify the fault, yet the vehicle was repeatedly returned to us without a proper diagnosis. The fact that the car has now suffered a complete loss of hydraulic fluid raises serious questions about whether the correct checks were carried out in the first place.
This is not simply a case of an inconvenient repair. The ongoing fault created a potentially dangerous driving situation, particularly when it occurred on a dual carriageway, and the eventual complete loss of brake/clutch fluid could have resulted in a much more serious incident had it happened elsewhere.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Halfords Broadwater, Worthing. I am extremely disappointed with the quality of the diagnosis, the standard of the repair, and the apparent lack of urgency shown despite repeated reports of a safety-critical fault.
This version is firm, factual, and highlights the safety implications without making claims that you cannot prove. It is well suited for a public review, complaint to management, or escalation under the UK's consumer rights process.
Car failed MOT for two front tyres ...however, not in stock. Booked in several days later...two new tyres...mot retest pass. On collecting the key was told by the manager best to have the tracking done sometime as this caused the wear on inside of tyres. He was unable to do it that day. I went online that evening to book a tracking appointment...noticed their online offer...buy two tyres (at a discount price) and get half price tracking. Phoned manager to ask them to goodwill the tracking offer...nope. Utterly disappointed as I'm a club member and have been using them for years. The end.
Awful experience in an autocentre, raised a complaint, promised multiple call backs that never happened. Eventually spoke to someone that sounded like they were going to resolve it for me - but nope, the autocentre management called me a liar, and Halfords closed my case via email with no chance to respond. Seems they are just too big of a company to actually care - but a regular customer lost now.
Autocenter on Bromley Road Catford. Just regassed my Peugeot Partner van aircon. Great service and friendly staff 10/10. Dave
ABSOLUTE LIARS!!!! HALFORDS AUTOCENTRE BOREHAMWOOD
They cancelled my 2017 diesel Ford Ranger Wildtrak’s MOT because apparently my catalytic converter has been cut out and isn’t there. Yet I am currently laying underneath my truck with a FORD technician looking at my catalytic converter.
This is a very dirty lie. Myself and my fiance were told to our faces that we do not have a catalytic converter.
I will be cancelling my premium membership.
The only real work that needs doing to this truck is an oil leak fix which I have been aware of since purchasing the truck in January.
Avoid…Unless you have no choice.
Feels like I have been ripped off…
Brake pads booked in for changing by Halfords superiors themselves and the car was sat there for an extra 24 hours before work even started.
They told me the work would take 2 hours from 12 midday when I called initially…
Yet when I called back hours later they hadn’t even started got somewhat rude on the phone and talked over me then hung up all with half an hour of time left before they close.
I made it clear I can’t reach the shop within half an hour so it was very much to get rid of me and silence my concerns and my voice.
I think other people were arriving after me and having their vehicles worked on before me. What was going to be 100-150 turned out as a brake discs… pads and calliper issues totalling about £500.
Obviously I would NOT have payed that so I got a lift there in person via a friend who lived nearby. And my oh my the attitude over the phone was gone.
It turned from we can change your pads too.
It’s possibly unsafe for you to continue driving it without all said components being changed as it would unevenly wear the brakes.
One was 13.3 and the other was 13.2 IIRC.
They all acted like victims besides the young mechanic that was very honest and very helpful….
& when I turned up NOBODY wanted to accept responsibility….
Immediately playing the ive had a long day and we are understaffed.
It was the woman that you spoke to initially that messed up is what I got from the interaction.
I AM PAYING I DONT CARE…. AND YOU ARE THE ONES BOOKING ME IN FOR SAME DAY WORK….. WHEN YOU CANT DELIVER!!!
(Don’t insult my intelligence).
You bit off more than you can chew Halfords…..
So why did you book me in with an allotted time to turn around and say we are understaffed we haven’t started.
We can start first thing in the morning.(is what I was told next).
& the next day my car was done first thing in the morning.
With about £70 discount.
But they still tried to charge full price for the pads.(until I reminded them of the phone quotation).
Funny that isn’t it…. Because I recorded the whole interaction I would love to see Halfords deny this interaction as I was secretly filming it.
Rather strange how they work their appointment times or start times as they are referred to on the website. Allegedly this is a drop off time and not an appointment time or a start time. I booked for 1pm for two new tyres, the confirmation email does state expect to leave vehicle for 1-2 hours the assumption being that it might take them that amount of time however it’s not for that reason it’s because they don’t start working on the vehicle at your selected appointment/start time which leads me onto my next part where they have now started to charge for appointments from anywhere between 50p and £3.50 depending on appointment time or even ridiculous amounts like £23.50 if they have available and you want a same day appointment yet a walk-in customer can just walk in and get sorted that same day without such charge, you can still get free appointments but you’re lucky if you get one inside of 24 hours. I’m not entirely sure how you can charge for appointment/start times when that’s not when the work is started.
Visited Halfords shop in Four Pools Estate, Evesham today. Staff always helpful, but particular thanks today to Sarah and Dot. Knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Highly Recommended.
I was served immediately by really friendly young men, they explained everything to me and at the end of service to my air-conditioning. Very happy thank you.
Halfords Redruth Cornwall - Fitted 2 new front tyres and 2 wheel alignment. Asked them to save one of the replaced tyres as it was in good condition. When received car back both new tyre pressures were way out from each other and steering wheel was not straight. Called them back to arrange for correction and pick up old tyre. Went back couple of days later and they’d binned my old tyre, not happy at all. They then corrected the tyre pressure and attempted to straighten steering wheel, but not very well as still not straight. Really poor workmanship and poor service in relation to binning my perfectly good tyre.
Had an MOT done, good service and friendly and helpful staff.
Thank you Dave for your efficiency and advice. We will be back.
I had a Major Service and MOT bundle carried out at Halfords on 15 June 2026. I booked the service specifically to ensure my car was safe and ready for a long trip, and I trusted the vehicle health check which confirmed the car was in good condition.
Unfortunately, during my trip my car became stranded on the motorway and I had to seek assistance from the motorway support team. A local garage later found that the clutch fluid reservoir was empty and that the engine oil level was extremely low, requiring immediate top-ups. I also had to top up the washer fluid myself.
What concerns me most is that I started seeing engine oil level warnings shortly after the service, but because I trusted the inspection carried out by Halfords, I assumed it was a sensor issue. I also already knew that the front left parking light was not working, yet this was not mentioned in the inspection report.
I have been a customer of Halfords for some time and never expected to leave a review like this. However, this experience left me feeling unsafe and has seriously affected my confidence in the service. I have contacted customer services and am currently waiting for a response after the issue was escalated.
I paid £389.85 for the Major Service and MOT bundle, and I am now left wondering what checks were completed and what else I may need to have inspected on my vehicle. I hope Halfords will investigate this properly and help restore my confidence.
