I subscribed to a knitting magazine ‘Simply Knitting’ for 3 magazines for £5.00, that was at the beginning of January. It’s nearly the end of February and I haven’t had one magazine and they have already taken the £5. When I checked my account it was saying the 3 issues were pending that they were taking £29 in March. Normally this doesn’t happen until you have had the 3 magazines. I emailed customer service who said they were sorry I was cancelling but would action my request. I’m not impressed with this service as I havnt had one magazine and they were planning to take £29 already. Don’t bother with this company they are useless. If I could give no stars I would.
By mistake, I placed an order for the BBC History Magazine twice (2 x £60) via PayPal as a Christmas present for my brother. This was on 27 November. I phoned them and was told I would have to cancel both subs and set up a new one. I said I would wait until I received the refunds before placing a new order. I was told it would take 10 days for the refunds to be processed. Two weeks later, no refunds so I sent an email. I received an automated response to the email but nothing else. A week later I phoned and was told the refunds hadn't been processed. It would take another ten days. By the end of December and two more emails, nothing had happened. I phoned again and got an automated message to say the phone lines were disabled. I contacted PayPal and opened two cases against Immediate Media. Eventually, I have now received refunds via PayPal (5 Feb). PayPal originally rejected my claims but when I reclassified them as "Item Not Received" (INR), they re-assessed and processed them successfully. Make sure you classify the claim as INR.
Immediate Media were totally unresponsive to my emails and the phone calls had no effect. Only pressure from PayPal resulted in the refunds. I now have told my brother to order the magazine from his local newsagent. I will not be using Immediate Media again.
They really give you the run around. Radio Times 6 month subscription price was put up 47 percent. Rang to cancel and they gave a new price 10 percent more than the original subscription. Accepted but my online account price did not reflect the change. Rang again and they offered a new price £2.60 less than the original subscription ! At this point started to feel something felt odd even though it seemed great. But they then still took the new inflated price by direct debit. Rang for refund of difference and told this may take up to 10 days. As this process was started at the start of the month and it is now nearly the end of the month and I'm fed up of ringing. I sent them an email requesting they transfer the amount owed and also contacted the bank to pursue the overcharge under the Direct Debit guarantee. Since then the refund has appeared in my bank account, but unsure if this is because of the bank intervention or they are incredibly slow actioning refunds? They have either a very poor IT system or unfortunately they also operate very questionable sales tactics. Either way I've decided to stay well away from such poor service and requested they cancel my future subscriptions and Direct Debits. Not a very good business model if they drive customers away because of their operational practises, who then will never return.
Cancelled "trial" subscription for "BBC Gardeners' World" on 20 April via e-mail, my account got debited again without my permission on 5 October. I e-mailed the company again but got no response except the (now broken) promise they'd get back to me within 24 hours.
My advice to anyone dealing with this untrustworthy outfit would be to cancel any DD they set up as soon as the first payment has been taken as the company will not honour a subscription cancellation.
It's a pity the rather nice magazine gets tarnished by association with such cowboy tacticts.
Scam artists. Lure you in with what you think is a 1-time payment offer for 3 issues and then take a larger ‘subscription’ payment weeks later. Does not make clear at time of offer that the 1-time payment leads to subscription. Have asked for this to be cancelled and refunded but company employees are clearly stupid as they deliberately avoid answering whether they’ve refunded. Will not give complaints team details to me. Will be looking to request a chargeback from bank to recoup money.
Has with other people. Under handed tactics regarding subscriptions. Auto renewed my subscription without informing me so when I rang up to cancel it I was told that the first issue had already been sent and that would still have to pay for it even though I didn't want to renew and that they don't email you to renew subscriptions. Very poor customer service and I will never take another subscription with them ever again. 😡😡
What an appalling company. Please do not subscribe to any of their offers. I recently subscribed to SIMPLY SEWING MAGAZINE, money was taken from my account but I have yet to receive the magazine.
Their customer service is dismal, promises, promises and still more promises......I have cancelled my Direct Debit and suggest that others do the same.
Agreed a direct debit of £54.99 for 6 month Radio Times subscription. Six months later they debited £102.50 without authority. They only sent automated replies to me emails. Spent ages on the phone getting the bank to refund.
Paid a 6 month subscription no magazine nearly 2 months later wish I had checked this website first just cancelled my payments won’t use them again
This is the first time I've ever seen a firm rated as 100% bad.
I really should have looked on here before subscribing to Radio Times for six months. Just like other reviewers on here, I was later offered a discounted renewal at £65 rather than the £91 they first asked for. They later confirmed the £65 in writing but debited £91. Helpline said they'd refund me the difference in 4-5 working days, but still no refund. A few days ago I emailed them asking to exercise my rights under the data protections acts to see what info they held on me. Needless to say I've had no reply. Next stop Rip-Off Britain and Watchdog. Avoid this bunch like the plague.
I took out a 6 month subscription for the Radio Times under the offer of receiving a £50 Marks and Spencer voucher. Months on and still no voucher. Emails and phone calls get you nowhere. I wish I'd read the reviews on here before signing up. I have no cancelled my direct debit.
I feel so guilty about leaving a 1 star review as I don't wish to mislead people who might read this. 1 star is far too high a rating for this totally atrocious organisation, they're a zero star provider.
They try it on with a 100% rise in the price. When you call to cancel you get one of their salespeople who miraculously comes up with a deal to keep your subscription at the same price.
However they still bill the higher amount. Refunds are impossible to obtain. Staff lie & in my case instead of processing the refund one actually extended the contract duration by a further 6 months, I hope she was happy with her commission.
This company has to be THE worst in terms of customer care. Furthermore, they think nothing of increasing your subscription payments halfway through your subscription period. It’s all about greed with them! I have had a subscription to the BBC History mag for well over 12 years but, because this greedy company increased my charges so outrageously, I’ve now cancelled my subscription. I don’t think it’s possible for me to think more lowly of them.
Order a £5 trial of 3 magazines but only received 1 of them so not really a trial just paid full price for the magazine. Customer services say they cannot do anything to help. I will not use them again and wish I'd checked on here before I ordered. Seems no one gets what they've paid for.
Absolutely awful. I've constantly emailed with no reply and it's now been a week since I was told someone would call me back within 24-48 hours. They've never delivered my magazine but had the audacity to take MORE money from me and then refund it partially because someone totally unconnected with my account asked them to.
Who is this person they've spoken to and why are they allowing a total stranger to make changes to my account? I'm worried about what personal information of mine they've given out and how they store it if random strangers can access my account details...
Immediate Media, if you're bothering to read reviews (probably not because you can't even read your emails) I'll be taking this further and I still want my money back.
Subscribed to a magazine for my wife that included a free gift book offer. The first issue arrived over 2 months later, no free gift. Called up to ask them what had happened, they said that my offer did not include a free gift when I clearly had the receipt that said it did. They cancelled that subscription and started another. Still no free gift book and I've been charged twice with not even a partial refund for the first subscription. The whole process of communication was frought with admin difficulties and I would have to say that (depsite the person on the call being very nice), they are a shocking company to deal with. Zero stars if possible.
Signed up for 6 month sub in advance and received the first edition 4 months afterwards after having to chase, missed two of the 6 and then they automatically signed me up for another 6. Meanwhile, I haven't received one edition before it is available in shops.
Put me off the product entirely, which is a shame.
Just been stung for another year subscription fee. Looked on my account a few months ago and could see no outstanding subscriptions, also no way to cancel online so you have to call, forced to listen to someone telling you why you shouldn’t cancel. I have now cancelled my Direct Debit for next years sneaky renewal!
The company renewed my annual subscription for a magazine two months early and without warning, giving me no opportunity to decide whether I wanted to continue the subscription or not. Customer service via email has been poor and I have no idea when they are going to reimburse me. I certainly won't continue with the subscription.
I continue to have a terrible service with Immediate Media. I paid for a digital subscription on the 8th Dec 2020 for my son's Xmas present.
It's Feb 2021 and I still cannot access the content.
I must have called 7+ times but no one in their CX team has any real technical knowledge to resolve basic ecommerce issues. They always say they will ring you back but they don't and pass the buck to another team in their organisation but will never put you through immediately.
I even sent an email to the CEO and he's not responded. That sort of sums things up really.
I would avoid, avoid, avoid - you'll never get what you ordered or your money back.
Awful!
