Defective service

Unfair treatment, severe GDPR breaches, and total failure to manage their legal agents.

I am leaving this review to highlight the completely unacceptable compliance failures and lack of administrative oversight by Intrum.

In 2021, Intrum’s instructed solicitors, Restons, obtained a Default Judgment (CCJ) against me. However, this judgment was entirely irregular because Intrum's agents fundamentally failed to comply with Civil Procedure Rules (CPR Part 6). They sent the court paperwork to an incomplete, incorrect address, completely omitting my specific flat number and building name. Because of Intrum's defective paperwork, I never received the claim form and was entirely denied my legal right to defend myself.

Worse still, as a direct consequence of Intrum's administrative negligence, a completely incorrect linked address has been generated on my credit file, erroneously tying me to a property I have never lived in. As the Data Controller, Intrum is responsible for this severe breach of the UK GDPR Accuracy Principle, which has actively damaged my financial standing.

When I formally challenged these failures on May 14, 2026, providing irrefutable documentary proof of my lawful tenancy at the time, their agents (Restons) suddenly washed their hands of the case, claiming they were "no longer instructed" and dumping the file back on Intrum.

Because Intrum failed to properly oversee their agents, I am now forced to start from scratch, wasting my time to deal with Intrum directly just to put their mistakes right. Furthermore, despite the actual underlying debt being just £142.00, Intrum has let inflated court fees and legal costs sit on my file—fees they were never legally entitled to since the claim was never lawfully served.

I have reached out to Intrum with a time-limited settlement offer to cleanly set aside this defective judgment, correct my credit file, and remove the incorrect linked address. If Intrum fails to act swiftly to resolve this mess, I will not hesitate to take this to a contested court hearing, seek a full costs order against them, and escalate a formal complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS)—which will cost them a £750 case fee.

Intrum needs to take immediate responsibility for the actions of their agents, respect FCA guidelines on the fair treatment of vulnerable customers, and rectify this clear breach of data protection.

The Lady I spoke to was very kind and understanding making sure I understood everything and as I have anxiety issues she let me take my time and explained things so I could think clearly so thanks to that lady I felt comfortable was nice talking to her x

Telephone conversation with Intrum

The lady i spoke to was absolutely brilliant,she really was so professional and courteous the whole time.Her attitude made me feel empowered and proud of the way i have managed the situation and the end is in sight now.She also corrected something i was told that was incorrect by another company, which has given me another incentive to push on.So thank you so much for everything you have made my day.

Missed payment/Double payment

I had some fraudulent activity in my bank account, which resulted in a delayed payment to Intrum. The man in Customer Service I spoke to was very understanding and helpful. He accepted my offer of 2 payments in June without fuss, and treated me with respect, spoke to me on a human level rather than corporate.
