Sadly we didn't find these reviews until too late. We too have suffered scratches and staining of our Minerva worktop, some scratches noticed within 48 hrs of installation. We notified Wickes and... Ver más

I hope this will bring some comfort to…
I hope this will bring some comfort to those like me who have had to put up with these awful worktops!
Using comments on here I filed a claim a year ago against the finance company on the loan we took out.
Barclays, Homebase and Minerva dug their heels in and refused to do anything but finally after a year and the help of an ombudsman the work tops were found to be un fit for purpose as worktops for the list of things people have been complaining about like moving a kettle or heaven forbid you want to put a mug of tea on it!
Also and as equally as important Homebase in our case mis led us at point of sale for not explaining they were liable to scratching, marking and all-round being useless, the brochures were misleading to point of lying while the sample was not the same as the end product.
I'm convinced they coat it with something if only they told us what it was the worktops would in fact look better and scratch less in we could apply the same finish.
If you took out finance make a claim it might take a year but you will win as they have no defence. I was prepared to take them to court but the ombudsman was brilliant he took my evidence and used it. The truth is they market it as a lye & are daft enough to put in claims that simply are not true and Homebase are so useless they can't defend what's staring them in the face.
I think if enough of you worked together you would get your money back quicker than us
Good Luck
Would not buy again
Having obtained the paper swatches we took them to Homebase to see how they compared to physical samples. There was no sample for the Copper Fleck which was the one we wanted but three other swatches looked just like the real thing so we thought we would be OK.
Unfortunately we were wrong, the depth of colour in the copper flecks is missing, very pale by comparision to the swatch and we got nowhere near the density of copper fleck by area in the worktop provided. In addition, the underlying cream colour is several shades lighter than the swatch which meant rethinking our wall tiles.
I would agree with comments on here about marking and staining. My wife washed the cast iron tops to the hob gas burners and put them on the worktop which left rusty ring marks which would not wipe or polish off even using the care kit. The fitters ended up sanding them out. Pulling a cordless kettle base (with rubber pads for feet) marked the surface - that had to be buffed out with an abrasive pad.
It looks nice but having bought this on personal recommendation I would do my own research next time around and would look at a different product.
DO NOT BUY THIS WORKTOP. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!
Please don't waste your money!!!
I purchased this worktop from Homebase in the Sparkling White. Thinking I had finally found a worktop that was the same standard as others I had seen in other kitchen showrooms. Nope, in my opinion the quality its simple utter CRAP, infact id say much worse!!!!! Clearly the sales person doesn't have this at home or anyone at Homebase has any idea of how bad the quality is. At a glance in a showroom it looks fine. Within two days of it being fitted by professionals -who did a great job, it was covered in scratches, big scuff marks and has small ingrained marks that wont come out.
I consider myself to be extremely careful and perhaps OTT. Im a minimalist to the extreme and all i have sitting out on the worktop is a kettle. I dont cut, shop or even make a cup of tea on this the worktop. Never have done. I use a table thats sperate. Yet I still seem to have scratches, scuff marks and staining. Laminated worktops at a quarter of the price look far better after one week with Minerva. PLEASE DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT BUY!!!
DO NOT BUY!!!
I am so so so disappointed and shocked Homebase sold us these worktops.
It has only been 72 hours and already have a mark I believe from my purse being on the side, and a water mark from LEMONADE!? I have used the care kit scrub and spray and hasn't come out not pratical at all - now disputing with Homebase and hoping for money back as these are also NOT CHEAP and for £420 per 3 metres. I am in disbelief how bad these are. After seeing these reviews I feel cheated and all have the same issue, we are now going for laminate from Howdens which are excellent and under a third of the price.
These worktops have caused nothing but stress and hope can warn people not to buy or waste time with this company.
Also the name Metis/Minerva is the same company, feel they're trying to hide these awful reviews being under the name 'Minerva'
Bought our white marble minerva top…
Bought our white marble minerva top form Homebase with our kitchen. We have the marble top with the grey veins. Not had any problems with chips like some other reviews suggest. our young daughter is constantly spilling things and marking the tops but we watched the care video on the minerva website and these come straight off!
Please avoid awful Minerva worktops
We have had brown Minerva kitchen worktops for 3 years now, and have been so disappointed with them. Yes, the joins are invisible and look great. But the surface is just too soft for a kitchen worktop, in fact they shouldn't be allowed to sell it as a kitchen worktop. It scratches so easily, and it is so time consuming keep rubbing it down with Cif or with the abrasive pad that we were provided in the maintenance kit. And then it's so dull, and doesn't even polish up properly again with the special spray in the kit. We use boards and trivets for everything, but if a toast crumb gets under the bread board, it is such a mess and takes ages to buff out again. We are only 2 grandparents here, so we are extremely careful and manage to keep on top of it, but when the grandchildren come we would love to sit them at our big island and do crafts, like they do at home with proper worktops, but we can't risk scissors, staplers, etc because it would be such a mess. And as others say, it expands. When the sun comes in through our patio door, the worktop next to the oven expands and its very difficult to open the oven door, so when it's sunny we pull the curtain across the patio door. We complained to Minerva within 2 weeks of fitting, but got nowhere with them. You must all avoid Minerva worktops... we spent a lot of money on our kitchen refit, but the decision on the worktops was an absolute disaster...
Great Looking Worktops!!!
We are really pleased with our Minerva worktops as you can't see any joins. We had granite before and these are much better easy to clean and no polishing required.
Great worktops
Great worktops. Easy for my kitchen fitter to install. We didn’t order enough adhesive for the installation so ordered an additional pack on the website and received it the next day. Really pleased with worktop and service!
Do not buy a minerva worktop for your kitchen
We first came across minerva worktops when looking at kitchens in Magnet. The worktop looked lovely and felt good to touch. It really does look good. We was told it was hardwearing and has invisible joins. We'd never heard of minerva worktops before this, but we was sold.
What a mistake that was! This worktop has to be one of the biggest wastes of money I've ever had. It looks lovely at a quick glance but it is simply not fit for purpose. Why? Because it scratches incredibly easily. Move a cup, scratch. Move a plate, scratch. Move a chopping board, scratch. My worktop is covered in scratches that have come about by simply moving small items. It's like the worktop is made of chalk. Incredibly disappointing. It is that bad I want to take it all out and replace it.
As a learning, next time you hear a saleperson telling you about how great something is but you've never heard of it before, do your research thoroughly before proceeding. Everyone knows about quartz, granite and laminate worktops because lots of people have them. Minerva? Never heard of it until before this and I'm surprised why some of the kitchen retailers continue to sell it.
Calcutta worktop
Had our worktops fitted in November. Bought from The Range. We went for Calcutta as it was on their display and we wanted something with the wow factor. Our fitter was initially nervous about doing the joins but he called the manufacturer for some advice and he did an awesome job. We have a big L-shape and you can't see the join at all. I love it!
Happy with my tops
Happy with my tops - White Crystal. My fitter was excellent and made the joins disappear - my wife can't feel them.
Looking at others maybe htey should have used a better fitter and not so dark colours?
Minerva is a fantastic solid surface…
Minerva is a fantastic solid surface for both kitchens, bathrooms and shower rooms. I have it in my kitchen but also as bath/shower wall panels in 3 of my bathrooms. It is very easy to clean and does not stain. In the bathroom it is installed as one large panel, floor to ceiling with no unsightly grout. It is completely waterproof. In the kitchen I have a large island which has a join down the centre which is seamless. Minerva is an excellent worksurface.
Absolutely hate it
Absolutely hate it. Cost a fortune and scratches so easily. Looks dull and wiping creates smears. Really wish our kitchen company hadn’t recommended this.
Getting worse.
Getting worse.. last order some of the ribbon delivered wasn't the size I ordered and delivery was very slow. Most recent order, I was told they didn't have everything in stock so I agreed for them to send what that had and refund the difference. Then I was told it was posted. 2 days later, another problem with the order as they didn't have everything in stock, over a week of messing around before they even think about post it.
Expands in sun and cracks joint.
We purchased our worktops as part of a large kitchen upgrade from Magnet last year. To be fair to Magnet the rest of the kitchen purchase was pain free despite it being during the first covid lockdown.
In total we purchased seven sheets two of which were used for a large kitchen island. We had gone for the Amazonia and it looked great complimenting the rest of the kitchen. Yes you do have to be careful with scratching but they do buff out - although a random orbital sander makes the job easier.
The island is where we have had the biggest problem. It has a long join which originally you could not see and it provided a real wow factor. The island sits underneath a big skylight and in the spring the sun heats it up, due to the orientation of the house the sun hits one sheet of the Minerva first and this obviously expands, unfortunately the other sheet is still in the shade and hasn't expanded, result a loud bang and the joint cracks at one end. Over subsequent months the joint splits further.
I contact Minerva and their response is dismissive - the joint hasn't been done properly and is too dry. They refuse to recognise that issue is differential expansion of two sheets, one in the sun and one in the shade. And that if it was a dry joint why is the split irregular with resin on both sides of the split. They refuse to send someone to look at the problem. The joint is now 190cm along a 245cm joint. I always judge a company on how it responds to a problem, Minerva response is just to deny a problem exists.
So could not recommend based on our experience, there are other options available which won't leave you disappointed.
Awful worktop
Awful worktop. Was going to go for quartz and wish I had!! Soo many scratches that don't buff out and the worktops have faded in multiple places it looks horrendous. Also just to top it off one of the joins has come away completly and you can just lift the whole thing up but it's not even 3 years old and apparently we have to pay to get it fixed! What ever happened to a guarantee??! Do not waste your money.
Very disappointed with this product
I had Minerva work tops installed and I am very disappointed with the product.
The man who fitted the worktops did an excellent job and they appear seamless.
However they mark with anything you put down on them. Even a glass or cup with cold water leaves a mark and getting them to look good is well nigh impossible. I live on my own and am meticulous about wiping them down but it takes forever to get the marks off and they are covered with scratches. Now the sides of the sink have begun to chip.
Do not even think of buying this product.
I can’t wait to get rid of them but having them installed was very expensive and I just can’t afford to ditch them.
Worst worktop EVER- AVOID AVOID
Worst worktop EVER! Ruins my whole kitchen ... absorbs every stain, even water stains it. If u put a cup down on it, then that's it - stained forever!! I've had specialists round and they were appalled - said it looks like a 5 year old + worktop when it was 2 months old. I hate it!! Avoid avoid avoid!!!!! I was sold this by magnet as hard wearing.... its is anything but that!
Awful worktop
Awful worktop. Such regret and stress. This worktop was recomended to us by our kitchen fitter. What a mistake to trust him. I regret not researching more. Stains from day 1, awful scratches. Waste of money and energy - it looks so poor. My dream kitchen is now nightmare just because of Minerva worktop
Don’t listen to the hype - AVOID
I had not heard of Minerva when I got my news kitchen in 2017 and they were hyped up to be hardwearing and long lasting looking like new. How misleading was that!!! One day heard a loud bang to find the seamless join had cracked. I had a slow cooker on and was told I shouldn’t have had it on!! Not fit for purpose plus no matter how much I try to clean it leaves wipe marks, the counter top cleaner provided with it is useless. There are scratch marks all over and I’m not careless in the kitchen.
Wish I’d just give for a cheaper laminated top which does the job and keeps its looks.
If you want to be happy with your kitchen avoid a Minerva worktop. I can’t wait to change mine some day.
