Absolutely gutted
Absolutely gutted. We've had our worktop a week and there are already two stains that just won't shift. Ours is white so I was aware we would need to be careful but honestly it seems anything left on it for longer than 10 minutes seems to stain. Weve got am orange mark from a Fanta bottle and brown stained from cocoa powder spilt. I used the Magic spray from the care kit and it's done nothing. So disappointed. ** edit we found CIF does the trick!!!!
Very poor
We were hesitant about spending as much on worktops and splash back. We were right. This is not hardwearing, it stains and scratches and is impossible to keep clean, even a damp cloth leaves smears. Wish we had just bought regular worktops, very expensive mistake.
Had a very poor experience with this…
Had a very poor experience with this shop. Firstly the delivery is a lot slower than it says on the website. In my first order 2 items were wrong. With one they sent the wrong color and the other was a totally different material! Finally managed to get them returned. I don't know why I gave them a second chance, however, they failed me again! 2 materials are identical, yet on website are described as different and have different codes. Customer service was not very helpful or understanding at all. Materials look nothing like they do in real life so it's just a lucky dip. I can't afford to just take chances when i need specific fabrics.
Side note: they do recommend ordering samples (which is vital especially for such an unreliable shop), yet the samples are quite expensive (I've had to pay £2 for some) plus there's about £3 postage.
Avoid if you are doing real sewing and not just school arts and crafts.
Awful
Awful, awful, awful. Avoid at all costs. I am a retired Home Economist and have thoroughly enjoyed cooking and baking throughout my career. I have lived in and bought new kitchens/ worktops for nine different houses. However, opting to buy our recent Minerva worktop was by far the worst decision I could have made. It looks nice but after one single month of light use, we are struggling to keep it looking nice/scratch free. Avoid!!!
minerva ice Crystal - very pleased
We’ve have the minerva ice Crystal in our kitchen for almost 2 years now and have been so pleased with it. Haven’t noticed any scratches, chips, discolouration or anything like these reviews mention. Ours are white and I’m constantly spilling things on them and even if I don’t clean up right away, a little bleach always sorts it!

Too easy to scratch and chip
Similar to other reviews- we had the white Carrara via Homebase- looks amazing, completely seamless, waterfall sides; was extremely happy once installed- but! Within the first week it got scratched; and since then I’ve noticed more and more, the worst thing though are the chips along the edges of the sink; these may be more difficult to bring back to new- even if we could it’s disappointing to have had a worktop barely 4 months with these issues- lucky, this is my utility worktop and I’m not having this in my new kitchen which I’m sooo glad about! I do not recommend this at all; too many issues for what I’d class as light use (making drinks, plating up food and washing up only).
Black granite style
Had the black granite style fitted about 2 months ago we purchased through homebase, getting someone who will fit them was very difficult as there's only a couple of fitters nationwide that will touch them. Once fitted it looked beautiful with non noticeable joints. They scratch ridiculously easily and become dull very quickly even only using microfiber cloths and surface cleaner that the fitter advised he also mentioned that the darker colours are very tough to maintain the finish. It looks like I'll be having to get a machine polisher out already. The website calls them durable which they're not, we dare not put anything down on it for fear of it scratching. The steel sink supplied with the worktop marks really easily too, I left an empty can of tomatoes in it whilst cooking, removed it after eating dinner to find a ring from the can, scrubbed the hell out of it and there's still a trace of it there. If you're wanting a granite/marble style worktop save your time and spend the bit extra to get the real thing.
Have had Minerva worktops fitted and cannot fault them
Have had Minerva worktops fitted and cannot fault either the product or the installation team who also converted our garage into a kitchen. A brilliant job done professionally and my wife loves the worktops and the Homebase Urban kitchen.
Don't understand the negative reports here
Wandered on to this site as I was looking to see if there were any ideas for cleaning products. Have been using magictop for the last couple of years. Was really amazed at the number of negative reports. We have had our top for 2 years and cannot fault it or the joins. it is the white one with copper etc flecks. I don't have problems with scratches or greasy handmarks so not sure what is going on here. My only, slight, concern is that it is not as shiny as it was but I have to admit that is more than likely down to poor housekeeping rather that quality of product. All in all very happy with our purchase even after 2 years
Beautiful to look at in the showroom
Beautiful to look at in the showroom, but our professional fitter, from a rated independent company, battled with the joints and they ended up pitted with tiny chips and scratched from repeated attempts to sand out the faults with the Minerva supplied repair kit. Very disappointing and very expensive. It strikes me that a product that comes with a repair kit is a warning in itself. We’ve insisted on it being removed and replaced with quartz. Stress!
We’ve had the Black Granite Minerva…
We’ve had the Black Granite Minerva worktops for approximately 2 years and they look awful, they mark very easily and have loads of scratches. We purchased a Minerva Care Kit and tried to buff out the scratches with the sanding disc supplied in the maintenance kit, it leaves faded areas and the Magic countertop cleaner just leaves smears when applied. We purchased the worktops direct from a Minerva dealer. We emailed them and we were told to use the Care Kit and the worktops are Matt and not designed to be shiny, completely different to what we thought we were buying. I noticed reading all the comments that Jill Barrett mentions a polish that she has but hasn’t had to use, does anyone know the name of this polish for us to give this a try. Thanks.
Would give zero stars if I could
Would give zero stars if I could. AVOID! bought white sparkling worktops and sink unit via Homebase. The breakfast bar slabs were wonky and had to be sent back (a big battle on the phone as Sylmar were suggesting my fitter try and straighten them himself.) then they wouldn’t deliver the replacements for a following week. The replacements don’t match exactly (apparently it’s like wallpaper batches). I’ve had them in for a week or so and they have several flaws deep in the material that my fitter could do nothing about (no amount of sanding or buffing could sort it). They scratch easily and stain even more easily. They’re not AT ALL shiny despite repeated uses of the rubbish countertop cleaner and sealant they recommend. The joins are certainly not seamless. The sink has only been used for a week and already has rust spots. Overall a really rubbish material, really poor quality and I wish I’d gone with something else.
To top it off I’ll be paying these off on finance for two years and they probably won’t even survive that long!
If I can put one person off buying these then at least that makes me feel better about shelling out a small fortune on this rubbish. This company should put itself out of business and Homebase should be ashamed selling such a terrible product.
We bought the dark worktops and I can't…
We bought the dark worktops and I can't wait to get rid of them. I have used the cleaning kit and I wash my worktops each evening after washing up but they show every cup mark and always look shabby and dull.
I was just browsing looking to buy…
I was just browsing looking to buy another care kit and spotted how they get slated on here.
I think a lot of people’s poor experiences will be due to poor fitters or poor advice from the retailer. We have copper fleck and we’re chuffed with it, you can hardly see the joins and the up stands and splash back are brilliant. It does stain but you simply buff them out, which you wouldn’t be able to do on laminate or marble for example.
Get a good fitter and buy from a better kitchen retailer, probably an independent one (avoid magnet, Homebase etc).
Would not recommend and wish I had…
Would not recommend and wish I had discovered this site before buying my Minerva worksurface. We had a very dedicated local tradesman to install it and although it was a real headache he did a good job - needed 2 and sometimes 3 people to lift pieces into place. Within a couple of months - despite leaving good gaps around the cooker and putting in heat deflectors - deep cracks appeared. Shocking given the price of the product that its not fit for purpose. Keep clear.
Minvera from magnet - shambles
These were advertised via magnet as having "seamless joins" and will not scratch chip or mark. All of this is rubbish. The join is clearly visible and in fact more noticable than if we were to have gone with laminate surfaces.
So hard to find a fitter for them also.
When trying to deal with minverva the are unresponsive and extremely unhelpful. And magnet will wash their hands of you as soon as they have your money. Stay clear.
Absolutely horrendous
Absolutely horrendous! Do not buy them! I bought them through Homebase and the rep and their insurance man all agreed that they need replacing as They are not fit for purpose! However they are not responding or doing anything to put it right! I will never buy a product from Homebase again!
DO NOT GO BUY MINERVA WORK TOPS!!!
DO NOT GO BUY MINERVA WORK TOPS!!!!
We had them fitted in September, the full house was covered in dust from the fitter recommended by magnet cutting and buffing them in my new renovated house!!!
Then the chips and scratches started to appear we aren’t hashy and no kids, you couldn’t so much as place a plate down without noticing where you had put it down. One night I was standing doing when I heard this almighty bang looked up the top of the kitchen and a massive crack right down my breakfast bar appeared. By this point I had had enough spent the good part of £10k on this kitchen and hated everything about it, contacted magnet, who just blamed Minerva, I didn’t buy them from Minerva so shouldn’t be passing the buck. Asking for more and more photos eventually I told them just come out and take as many photos as you like I’m not sending anymore, they aren’t fit for purpose. Well 5 months later still not sign of anyone, now magnet is blaming the fitter , which they recommended! I’ve had enough. Just want new work tops and not minvera!
Minerva...give it a swerv-a
We have had our Minerva worktops for a year so I think I can write a fair review. We have the carerra white marble. This stuff scratches like you wouldn’t believe. And chips too, as I discovered when a shot glass fell out a cupboard leaving a small white chip out of one worktop. Using the buffing kit you get with the worktop just leaves patches that look even more scratched and removes the sheen from the worktop despite following instructions to the letter. Most stains do come out with either Barkeepers Friend or bleach though. For me, the very worst thing about when we got these worktops was when (like so many others) a crack appeared from off a join when we had a slow cooker on our worktop. Despite having registered my guarantee Minerva refused to take any responsibility and blamed it on not being fitted properly (the fitting is fine). To be fair the crack is hairline and you would only ever notice it if you were REALLY looking but after spending so much money on these I was gutted. They do still look good from a distance but I would not EVER recommend them and I wish we had just gone for a good quality marble effect laminate instead but a year ago when we got these there were very few reviews online to sway my opinion...I can only hope to stop others making the same mistake!
