Absolutely disgusting Mobitel service

Absolutely disgusting service from Mobitel.

I’m visiting Sri Lanka for a 4-week holiday and purchased a prepaid eSIM. The connection was activated and working fine—until suddenly, after just one week, they disconnected my service without any prior notice.

When I contacted customer support, they claimed there was a “verification issue” and told me to visit a Mobitel outlet. The problem? I was in Yala National Park at the time, and this happened right before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year—so all their offices were closed for days.

I explained everything and even offered to send my verification documents via email, but they refused and kept repeating that I must visit a store (which was impossible due to the holidays). No alternative solution, no temporary fix, nothing.

Because of this, I was left without mobile service for days and struggled to manage my work, especially since hotel Wi-Fi was unreliable too. It’s now been several days, and despite promises to resolve the issue, no one has followed up.

Very poor planning, terrible customer service, and zero consideration for customers—especially tourists.

Do NOT buy a Mobitel eSIM online if you’re visiting Sri Lanka.
I highly recommend going with Dialog Axiata instead.

This is not a good connection

This is not a good connection. I am constantly having trouble with it. Whenever I contact customer service, they always say there is no issue in my area. The service is very poor. Even when my data package is active, I cannot use it properly. Videos keep buffering and loading. Very disappointing experience.

this one is a not reliable network ,dog shit network all ways packet loss and no connection when i ask several time they say they cant do anything , and they fill a case that's it . i have peo tv connection to even i cant wath tv because no connection all the time

Worst provider that I encounter in my life!

I'm a digital nomad, I travel a lot in different places and it's def the worst provider I've seen. they sent me the Esim QR in a file with password but the password (country pass code + passport number) didn't work! and support asked me to just enter the passport number, which also didn't work! also talking with chatbot is more human than talking with their support, they just read the script without any knowledge or effort to solve your issue. And then they asked me to go to physical shop or contact through the website form. and the website is a total tr..sh! full of bug, tested different browsers to finally send the request.

Mobite's unlimited 9-1 package is scam

Mobitel claims they offer unlimited data, but they actually don’t. I’ve been using the 9–1 ‘unlimited’ data plan, which is listed under the unlimited combo plans on the Mobitel app — and it’s a total scam. They only give 25GB, which is not unlimited. I was informed of this when I called the hotline to ask why the package stopped working after just 10 days.

Useless service

Useless service. Called them twice for a reconnection issue. 1st Call was on hold for more than 10 minutes n 2nd for more than 6 minutes n then line disconnected. Utter useless service provider.

ESIM purchase & customer service

I have purchased my tourist eSIM and could not open the file with the QR code. I've tried to reach out to customer service, without much success - I couldn't submit the form despite providing all required info. When I tried to send an email it asked me to use the aforementioned form. Finall try was to contact them via What's up number provided on the official vebsite - nobody replied to me. I guess, this comment is self-explanatory regarding the customer service quality

The only good with Mobitel is the Speed.

The only reason for 2-Stars is the technology and speed.
1. There was a 549 pre paid package withdrawn without warning, I have the advert for 699, without any transition warning. At least you could, 'lock the reload' and reply the customer for preference, without allowing the reload, to be just wasted.
2. The 'HUMAN' customer service is getting hardest to access, to derive a solution or convey a grievance. Nothing is more annoying than you can't reach help desk, which is a basic client relationship violation. You might even consider a paid, premium service, where the client can opt to pay and "Access" Customer Service!

Pay over charged money back

I will not extend any of SLD services any more it is a total rip off wrong advice wrong judgement wrong assessment, list is endless. They advised me to get unlimited access Wi-Fi for one person living small house and ripped me off for over two years with a bill of over 14,000rupees , they need to pay me back what I was charged with completely wrong assessment and judgement 200 GB, when I did not use even 50, absolute rip off, robbing the customers misleading the customers I am slowly leaving Slt, no thank you for further offers. Please don’t send me messages advertising further more offers. Y have to pay me back overcharged Rs.12,000 monthly nearly coming up to at least 2 years or more I believe, one of their own agents recently advised me and said all what I need is 50 GB which cost me only Rs.3000. Which is the package I am on now. They need to pay the overcharged amount for the period that they have. done if they have something called decency in serving people. They have sent a bill even for this month for another Rs14.000 after I have signed for the new contract.

*Extremely Disappointed – Terrible Experience*

I’ve been using my Mobitel number for over 3 years, and out of nowhere, they disconnected my SIM without any prior notice. When I called customer service, they claimed it was a "technical issue" related to the IDD call facility. They said it was resolved — but just one hour later, the SIM got disconnected again!

This has caused me serious problems: I can’t receive verification codes for my online banking, and I’ve lost contact with many friends because my number is no longer reachable.

Absolutely shocking service. The customer support team is useless, unhelpful, and clearly don’t know what they’re doing. Their technical team is just as bad — no proper solutions, no professionalism. I would *strongly advise against* using this company. Completely unreliable and unprofessional.
