Well worth a visit

Visited the Chelmsford branch this evening. What an outstanding meal!!

The food was so tasty - the sticky chicken was a particular highlight as was the lamb chops and fries.

Busy Saturday evening with a fantastic atmosphere. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Very disappointing in all aspects

I was visiting Liverpool for my 60th Birthday. First time in a lovely city.
We were seated upstairs which was astoundingly hot and uncomfortable.
Food order was taken quite some time later and eventually the food started to arrive – but not all at the same time – how is it so difficult to get a whole table order for 4 people out at the same time – for instance – some chicken arrived but the rice 15 minutes later, bits arriving without their accompanying bits etc. 3 peoples meals arrived in dribs and drabs and 10 minutes later my own meal partially arrived – then I had to wait for the other part of my order whilst the chicken got cold.

One of our party must have mentioned it was my birthday to your staff – so I was delighted that one chocolate brownie with a candle arrived at the end of the meal – very enjoyable – what was not enjoyable was that this “cake” was added to the bill . Really – is that a good thing to do with people who have come to celebrate a special event – you can’t give for free a piece of brownie for one person??? .

We paid the bill for this birthday party, not our friends – but I have to say – after a great recommendation of your food and ethos from our friends – it was as a whole, very disappointing ; overpriced; there can be no excuse for not serving all the foods for the table together and the chargeable birthday cake was absolutely shocking - we wont be returning to any branch of Mowgli, underwhelming food too, not the blast of taste and spice suggested by the owner.
Need to do better I think.

Disappointing food and lack of service.

Disappointing food and lack of service.
After the interesting posts on the gram, I was intrigued to try Mowgli - the owner so well intune with spices, collaboration of flavours failed to execute delivery of what should be simple yet effective Indian food.
The decor and interior is inviting although a little claustrophobic, yet the swing sitting was interesting. The servers seemed little interested in providing in a mere mediocre service. The cocktails were basic, and with no rose petals in stock lacked oomph in the martini, the old fashioned had no infusion of the curry leaves and was just a Monkey Shoulder. The food was warm, lamb chops cooked reasonable well but the chicken curry was appalling - forget Pathaks or Sharwood - it wasn’t even close to any indian flavour. The slaw so basic, yet filled half my portion of the chicken dish. Honestly, a lunch lacking in flavour, excitement and Indian spices (Nisha really needs a journey into the heritage of Indian cooking, understanding spices and marrying flavours). Avoid this restaurant unless McDonalds is closed.

WE went for a pre theatre meal but it was not as expected. The food was served warm instead of hot and looked as though it was warmed up and not freshly cooked. The dishes themselves were actually lacking in flavour and was the worst Indian food we had ever had. I would actually say that if Mc Donald's did an Indian restaurant then this would be it. Definitely not recommended.

Excellent staff and decor, dreadful food

Excellent staff, poor food have had better at Weatherspoons. What a disappointment....we went to the Beverley Restaurant, I'm wondering how others have given it such glowing reviews!??? All the food was on the cool side, made worse in a coolish restaurant in January and then served on cold metal trays. Regardless of wanting to keep it authentic or true to the family... We are not in hot India, so at the very least simply heat these trays until they are piping. The mums butter chicken dish was awful, the sauce watery, the spices were not cooked out, I ended with watery 'sauce' on cold rice. The lamb curry was OK, but meat content very minimal for the price. The sticky chicken was the best dish we ordered. The fried puri was the texture of gossamer tights, so not at all filling and the fat tasted old. We has no coriander or pomegranate seeds on anything to dress the dishes shown in the photos. I have eaten Indian food in Goa, eaten at numerous top Indian restaurants...and so regardless of any claims to be different or from home cooked recipes this food is poor. There is also some nonsense about the dishes coming in different sized containers. Everyone's food I could see was served in the small, and I mean small, round tiffin tins (the rice at £3.95 wasn't nearly enough for one person) , and the only other sized dish I saw was the tray the sticky chicken came on. It is a way of disguising or veiling very small tapas sized meals. Just show the pots or don't mention them but to say ' the meals are various sizes, we can't really say as they vary so most people order 2 or 3 each' is ridiculous and untrue. I would love to try some vegetarian options to see if these are out of the world better, but don't want to waste another £50. Chicken thighs in a sharwoods tika sauce (which I can'tabide) is the level of mums butter chicken. Sadly typical 'chain' food. I wonder if cook in the bag microwaved? It certainly had that about it. Very disappointing and can not in conscience recommend to anyone

Bland, tasteless and bad service

Being Indian I enjoy Indian cuisine and trying different restaurants. I was excited to visit Mowgli after reading the menu on-line. On arrival at Charlotte St, the venue was nice and cozy. However it went all downhill from there. For 30 minutes we had no drinks nor food on our table. The service was very substandard and we had to ask 3 times to get some water. The food is definitely style over substance. This is the most blandest Indian food I have ever eaten. How can Indian food be so bland with all the available spices and herbs? The chat bombs could’ve just been a bowl of plain yogurt, the bhel puri taste profile was wrong and the butter chicken was not buttery or creamy, just watery tomato sauce. Meat portions were also minimal with about 4 pieces of thigh chicken. I will never go back nor recommend this restaurant to anyone. Very disappointing!

Mowgli - Chelmsford, a new favourite

Went for dinner, booking on the day, as we’ve always wondered past and it’s looked nice inside. As soon as we arrived, staff was really friendly, accommodating and smiling throughout (seemed genuinely happy to be there). Our main server, Charlotte A was amazing and really quick with all our orders; helped us with the menu and we had amazing food (favourites being the Yoghurt Chat bombs and the lamb chops). A new favourite, especially above all the chain restaurants. Thank you very much Charlotte!

TERRIBLE PLEASE AVOID TASTLESS FOOD

TERRIBLE PLEASE AVOID! EXPENSIVE, TASTELESS STALE FOOD, POOR SERVICE. Nisha Katona please improve your restaurants. I visited with my family spent over £100 and left hungry and dissatisfied. Staff took far too long to come to table and only after we finished they asked if we needed anything! Food portions were disgraceful, literally 5 tiny chicken chunks and tiny roti. We asked 3 times for drinks. Most of all considering Nisha is promoting her restaurants it’s not just about the money, the food was tasteless, no spices or flavouring at all! Honestly I will never visit again and suggest you to save your hard earned money - go somewhere decent please

Slow service, tiny portions

Slow service, had to ask a waitress to take a drinks order after being plonked on a table right at the back of the restaurant where there were few staff around (Beverley).

Food nice, but I prefer to have a meal that doesn't require a stop at McDonald's after due to tiny portions. Lovely surroundings but can get better value for money in other local restaurants.

Commercial Indian restaurant

As an Indian, I'll start with staff, all cruffy looking, do not match decor,
Was told we cannot just come in for just drinks, we need to order at least 2 dishes EACH!!! very hard with not many choices (without chickpeas) small mains were ok, but VERY sweet tasting, overall beautiful setting

Mediocre Mowgli

Really enjoy Indian food so keen to try the Mowgli Street Food in Edinburgh,

Firstly the online booking wasn't working and you couldn't book a table after 4.30pm for the next 6 months. Raised it when I visited the restaurant today and they said it must have been a blip!

Food was expensive and nothing more than average. I had the dish served with bread and it was more like a half loaf than an Indian dish. Very little chicken and lots of potatoes.

My husband had the Office Worker's Tiffin at £20, again very little meat in the dishes for the price. One rice, one vegetable potato dish, one chicken and one lamb.

Had to try it but won't be returning, other Indian restaurants with better food and value for money in the city centre.

Mowgli Birmingham -- a great place for friends to meet. …

Mowgli Birmingham -- a great place for two friends, living far away from each other -- to meet. The lights and the welcome from Val Aliah were inviting. The food was excellent (having lived in India, my standards are high). Val Aliah then surprised me with a warm brownie with ice cream and a lit candle, when she heard that it was my birthday treat. Free! Thank you Val!

New Beverley restaurant

Visited the new Beverley restaurant. We were really impressed with the interior and ambiance, and the food was amazing. Lots of choice and it all sounded delicious. Bex our waitress talked us through everything, saying we can ask for dishes to be adjusted to accommodate our “heat” requirements if needed. We even got some complimentary chat bombs, which were fantastic. We both said we’ll definitely go again, and work our way through the menu 😃

My family and I went to the Leeds one…

My family and I went to the Leeds one last night. I had been looking forward to it for ages. I have to say I was disappointed. Gunpowder chicken was dry - cocktails not great. We were sat squeezed into a small space and I think they forgot us as when we asked for desserts we were told we only had ten mins left on the table. Waitress was lovely 10/10 by very stressed. Never again
