Our Journey...- After previously running a charter company and training academy from 1999, we realised there was a way we could improve the learning experience for RYA Theory Courses. In 2005, we made the decision to develop an online Day Skipper theory course and sought approval from the RYA. After our course material was reviewed by Mike Diamond and Chris Slade, RYA examiners of examiners, we embarked on writing the Coastal Skipper and Ocean Yachtmaster online theory courses. We dedicated months to developing ocean animations, and worked tirelessly on the weather and passage making modules. Eventually, we completed the course, and it exceeded our expectations. Some of the material was excellent
Some of the material was excellent. But several sections were difficult to navigate. (No pun intended.). The section that was the worst offender was the section with the nav plotter. A total waste of time. Maybe a mention about the use ( and when not to use) but leave it to the practical course to learn the plotter. The other total waste of time was the nav light section. Specifically the lesson in night lighting. The course name is DAY SKIPPER. I don’t need that information. I’m not qualified to sail at night, so I do not need that information. I’m a retired major airline captain, I know you are saying well you could wind up at sea at night, and yes that is true, ( you have major leagued F’d up) but that information is not going to save you. Anyway, overall I thought the course was good.

We are in the process of updating the sections of the course which relate to the use of the onboard electronics as this is something which is currently being developed by the RYA. It isn't something which can be omitted however, as it will become an essential element of the syllabus. With regard to the Navigational Lights; again, this does form part of the syllabus at Day Skipper for students to have an awareness of lights which they may encounter during the hours of dusk and darkness.

Well structured and easy to understand
I also took the Day Skipper theory course with Navathome. The course is well structured, easy to understand and prepares you well for the theory exam. I surely use Navathome again when preparing for the next levels.

I took the Day Skipper theory course…
I took the Day Skipper theory course with Navathome. The course is really well designed and effective in terms of making you actually understand what you are learning.
On a couple of occasions I contacted them via email with some questions, and I always got immediate feedback to my queries.
Overall, very friendly and professional, I can only recommend them.

Excellent experience
I did my Yachtmaster offshore theory with Navathome and I enjoyed it 100%. The course materials / content/ videos / explanations are very clear, even for the non native english speaker I am. The team is available and answers quickly if you have any problem. I love the fact that you can extend your access to the course. I recommend 100%.

Great way to do the theory
I did my yachtmaster coastal practical after doing the theory with navathome the instructor knew immediately that I did the theory online because I was doing everything by the book. I can't think of a better complement how navathome prepare you. Thank you

Flexible and supportive
Love the flexibility of being able to complete the theory in my own time. I was also able to have an invigilator present via a local sea school for my exams online. This has now allowed me to have my RYA Yachtmaster Offshore commercially endorsed

Great Day Skipper course
Haven’t studied for years but found the day skipper theory course to be really well presented and delivered. The course covers a vast expanse of subjects which initially I thought daunting but it was broken down in such a way that I found it very accessible. Challenging theory in places but overall really enjoyed it.

Great compagny...
It's a lot of theorie, if you're doing the Yachtmaster course. But I enjoyed every bit of it. Love how everybody is treating you, helpfull with fun. Would defenitly recomend them.
