Wish I'd read these reviews (60% 1 star ) before using the Photo-Me booth at a nearby Sainsbury's !
I wanted a digital copy of the photo of usable quality which the booth signage alludes to. The "right click to save from the Gov.uk Passport site " standard reply from Me Group results in an 18k useless thumbnail.
In comparson, the emailed digital photo I received after using a Max Spielmann booth was 739k.

Misleading
These photo booths are very misleading. I needed a digital passport style photo for a school application, but only found out when I got home that the photos can't be downloaded, they're only for use on online passport applications. The booths also kept zooming in on my face despite leaning back as far as possible in the preview images. I gave it two tries so now I'm out of pocket £20 with photos I can't use.

Our booths do clearly state that we offer a digital UK passport photo and that your digital image is accessed using your unique code on the gov.uk website when applying for your UK passport.
You have to select OK AGREE on the touch screen to these terms in order to take the photo and make payment.
You can still access the digital image on the gov.uk website and save it to your computer or mobile device to use for other purposes. The image file is the correct size to use for a UK driver's license or any other form of ID that accepts UK passport-size photos.

deliberate misleading of customers
Photo can only be used for British Passport application and nothing else. Their suggested method of downloading from gov.uk passport application page yields a photo with the following properties: 20 KB, 380x480 jpeg (very poor quality and unusable for any purpose).

You do not get a downloadable image
It says you can download your photo, but this is misleading.
Even if you don't need a passport, you have to start making a passport application, and after a few steps you can enter your photo code.
You will then be presented with a thumbnail of your image. There are no options to download a full high-res version of the image. You can try to save the thumbnail but it is too small to be of any use for anything.

Faulty machine
Having tried unsuccessfully to upload my photo for Irish passport contacted customer service via chat and they told me the photo machine had been faulty and that was the reason . They have promised a refund. I am trying again also hough now having to wait for the passport office to reissue a photo submission form as I used up all my allotted goes with the faulty code

I won't use this service again
The photos are fine, but I was lead to believe I was buying a digital photo that I could use for other purposes. I expected I would be able to download the photo (or receive it by email) at a reasonable resolution for my own use. I can't see any reason why the company doesn't make this facility available - it would be easy to provide a secure code - but it appears they don't allow it. I feel I have been mislead and am disappointed by this service. I will not use it in future, nor recommend to others.

Our booths do confirm on screen that your photo is for a digital UK passport renewal. The photos are accessible on the Gov.uk website using your digital code when applying for a UK passport.
Me-Group do not have access to any digital photo images. The photos are held with the gov.uk online passport application. Our machines are self-service and we provide as much information on screen as possible regarding the digital UK passport photo and how it is accessed so I am sorry to hear that you felt misled.
You can still access your digital image by going through the gov.uk website answering the first couple of questions, then entering your code. Once your digital image is on screen you can right click the image and save it to your computer without submitting a passport application.

I recently had a problem obtaining a refund for a digital image that hadn’t worked. Luke at customer services soon spotted that I had miss-read the number of the location site. He couldn’t have been more helpful. I do however think that my mistake of miss-reading 5i22 (in extremely small type) for S122 must be a fairly common mistake and as such would hope Photo-Me could do something to avoid this situation re-occurring. Hope this helps others 👍🏻

Digital copy
I was hoping to get digital copies of the passport photos I had printed off. I thought I could only use the digital prints code if I was filling in a UK passport application. I contacted the customer services to see if they could help. They advised going through the first stages of the passport application, and when you input the code for the photos, you could simply save the photos from that location. Great tip and I have digital copies of the prints -answered my query with a couple of hours. Great service. Thanks

Digital driver licence photo
We contacted photo me as the post office staff had advised that to get a photo for a driving licence we would get a code which we could look up & digitally upload. Unfortunately this was not quite true as the link was for passports. The contact talked us through how to get the photo from the passport site to be able to upload & am pleased to say we received the new license a few days later. 👍

Impossible to retrieve your image
Service not provided - digital file promised, but no way to download the image with sufficient file size.
Customer service representative Lucy, claimed that the only way to do so is via the gov.uk website by applying for a new passport, stopping half way, and pressing right click, save image. Said image is thumbnail size, and only 18kb. UK passports require MINIMUM 40kb, let alone any other visa photo requirements.
Photo-me should not falsely advertise or sell online digital files/ photos if they have no way of delivering the product to their customers.
The whole process was a huge inconvenience and waste of time. I am now seeking a refund as was unable to retrieve my image with a file size large enough to satisfy the purpose of an ID photo.

What a total scam
What a total scam! The booth does not say that you're only able to see part of a digital copy on the .gov website. When using the .gov website, you do not have access to the photo as printed from the machine. Nor do you have the quality from the pathetic 17.5KB. It's very blury and will not scale. You also, have to go through the process of applying for your passport to see it, which is not what I needed to do. I needed a digital copy for another type of application that required a digital passport photo. And what is the point of having a helpline phone number when all it does is direct you to the website immediately! Our family will not be using your services again. If there is a way to see these photos in good quality and be able to store them, I can't find it anywhere
