Synology + Mac = 💩
This is an amazing company that offer a lot of services, but if you have Mac is better if you going to search another company like QNAP. Synology apparently is not interested to add the possibility to have file on-demand in your Mac, and that's means a lot of space lost in the computer. I waiting for that implement for a long time, I have Synology from at least 4 years and many people asked to have this implementation which suppose to be their priority but only windows has it. So Mac-people, stay away from Synology.

Der Synolgy Support antwortet sehr verzögert und zudem fachlich inkompetent. Zur Lösungsfindung wurde in keinster Weise beigetragen und der gesamte Vorgang hat sich zudem über einen Zeitraum von mehreren Wochen (ergebnislos) hingezogen.

Synology seem to be fully aware of faults with certain products (even extending the warranty by a year, that I found out after the fact) but chose not to inform customers of these issues whilst the product is in warranty. Once you are out of warranty it is just stock answers from customer support, leaving you with an expensive brick or to buy another enclosure from them.
From the information provided, the unit appears to have a fault with the main system board. Unfortunately this particular unit is no longer covered by the warranty period, and as such we would not be able to assist with this issue as we do not provide a repair service for out of warranty units. In this event, you may wish to find a 3rd party company who offer repairs on Synology products (though, we are unable to recommend any companies for this).
An alternative measure would be that you can replace the device with a new Synology device and migrate the hard drives to the new unit to continue using this NAS with the files and configuration of your old device, using the guide linked below.
Think it is time to look for an alternative NAS supplier with better reliability and customer support.
Avoid Synology..... Moving away after many years
After many years as a Synology customer I'm moving away from this brand.
Hardware has become unreliable over the last 5 years and the customer service is nothing short of appalling. Faults aren't investigated properly and the support team is poor.
They use policy tactics to avoid replacing hardware with known faults. They even claim that there is no record of certain known faults, despite forums with hundreds posts with the same issues, on the same models.
No longer the company they used to be. They've become quite unethical.

Deceptive Adverts, Poor Support
Deceptive advertising that borders upon outright lies. Synology would have you believe the average home pc users could set up one of their NAS's easily, without any fuss. This couldn't be further from the truth. When the device works as advertised then life is good, however, it's rare that there isn't some sort of issue or error, often brought about by an update or just poorly designed software. Then you need a PhD in Computing. That wouldn't be an issue if you could turn to Synology for support. Unfortunately, that support is pretty much a lottery with Synology picking that 1 in a million customer to help from the forums. To make matters worse Synology choose to keep the solution to that customer's issue to themselves using a flimsy data protection argument. This means that only one customer gets helped and all the others suffering the same generic issues can't benefit from it. Most issues are systemic and could be addressed with decent updates but this never happens either. The updates often cause more issues than they solve.
A lot of issues are caused by the lower end models not having enough memory. I get that these are meant to open up the market to the average home user but it is a false economy. Sadly, whilst the advertising assured me that my entry-level NAS would run smoothly and meet all my basic needs, it failed to mention anywhere that the model didn't have upgradeable memory. Now I can't solve one of my main issues unless I buy another more expensive model. That isn't going to happen after my experience.

Very bad after sales support
I had some basic questions with regards to the Synology NAS I purchased, so I wrote an exhaustive email with my questions carefully laid out to Synology. I got a response very late with a very, very generic answer, that did not address any of my questions at all. So I replied to ask for further clarification on my original email and it has been 3 weeks and I still have had no feedback. Awful after sales support.
Good product, but support is questionable
I have been using Synology for more than 9 years and have setup more than 10 systems for home and business use.
They are very good and reliable units.
HOWEVER, in recent years, I have found that their support is both slow and questionable.
Firstly, yet again, I find that they have not read what I have said in my ticket and also they appear not to know that I am not a novice because my account with them has been in place for 9 years now and has many products registered with it - indicating that I might just know how to set up and use a Synology NAS.
Also, when they want more information or to access your system (as happened recently), they ask you to perform actions one at time, instead of giving you all of the steps that they wish you to take.
So, you end up having to reply and respond to a series of emails with 3 days between each response to make any progress.
In the end, and with the recent problem that I had, I decided to resolve the matter myself and managed to fix a broken SHR array without their help.
The problem now is, that so much has changed with DSM 7, and Synology appear to be ignoring third party providers and not answering questions - in my case about Goodsync for NAS.
Wake up guys!
Nie wieder Synology. Schlechte Support, Ware und Preisleistung.
Mein System DS2415+ hat sich letzte Woche mit einem neuen Update versorgt und ist einfach ausgegangen. Ich habe mein System händisch gestartet und plötzlich ist der Alert-Button und alle HDD-Leds in orange gefärbt. Das System ist komplett zerstört. Ich habe alle Festplatten entfernt und alle Resets durchgeführt – kein Erfolg!
Synology Support erneut angeschrieben und mein Problem nochmals genau beschrieben und bekam eine 0815 Nachricht mit Standard Lösungen, die ich so oder so durchgeführt hätte. (Entfernen Sie die Festplatte usw.)
Erneut Kontakt aufgenommen und mir wurde einfach gesagt: Ihr Synology Nas ist defekt!
Wie jetzt? Einfach so? Weil ich Update installiert habe?
Keine Begründung, keine Fehlersuche, nichts. Ich habe mich erneut beim Kundenservice gemeldet und habe alles nochmals beschreiben. Wieder die gleiche Antwort. Ausage: Während ein System Update können Bauteile kaputt gehen! Wie bitte? Warum wird das von Synology nicht genau getestet und wieso muss mein Nas System dadurch kaputt gehen? Dann ist das doch ein Update/Software Fehler von synology!
Synology Support hat absolut nicht verstanden, dass wir Kunden sind, die deren Ware überteuert kaufen und Sie eigentlich die Aufgabe haben, uns Kunden zu betreuen. Fehler werden einfach ignoriert und dass bestimmte Software-Fehler tausende Nas Systeme lahmlegen, interessiert Synology nicht. Wie kann eine Firma so schlecht mit Kundenproble umgehen? Kundenservice: 6 ….
Ich würde meine Kunden/Freunde definitiv davon abraten, je ein System von dieser Firma einzusetzen. Denn wenn es Probleme gibt, wird man im Regen stehengelassen und die Firma ist vollkommen egal, ob du arbeiten kannst oder nicht. Ob du ein Nas System für deine Firma gekauft hat, dass mehrere Tauschen Euro gekostet hat, ist ebenfalls egal.
Und wenn man sich diese veralteten Hardware von Synology anschaut, die überteuert verkauft werden, weiss jeder doch, dass das mit Professionalität nichts zu tun hat.

I have attended several Synology webinars and have found them helpful, informative and interesting. It is so good that a company look to helping the home user as well as the big corporate users.
I have had a Synology NAS for 5 years and thanks to their latest series I have been able to prepare for my upgrade to a + series NAS.

Ich bin Quereinsteiger in die Systeme von Synology und bin einfach begeistert! Umso mehr features ich entdecke umso mehr bin ich fasziniert von der Benutzerfreundlichkeit wie auch vom breiten Funktionsspektrum! Ich benutze im Moment (noch) die etwas ältere 216j, möchte aber demnächst auf 220+ upgraden, da die ältere nicht so für große Anwendungen geeignet ist.
Der Support ist auch supernett, alles einfach top!
Horrible Customer Support
I had a horrible experience with my DS2415+ server. It shows up there is a known clock issue with this model. If you did not visit their website or subscribed to their newsletter, you were not notified within the waranty. I contacted support and asked if they could replace the motherboard or give me a discount on buying a new server. Their answer was, as expected, sorry, your product is no longer under waranty. So a faulty chip in their product suddenly became my problem. I found out that a lot of other buyers ended up in the same situation and a fix has been posted. All it takes it to apply a transistor to the two pins. How lazy and careless can a company be? They know about the fix, but still recommend buying a new server. Have you guys noticed the changes in our enviroment lately? I have spend thousands of dollars on this company but will avoid them in the future. Their service and enviromental ignorance over greed is something I cannot support. Thank god for Karma.

Just unboxed this thing. After 3 hrs of trying downloading all kinds of additional apps trying to get customer service I am fed up with this. Back in the box and return to sender. User friendly looks different in 2021 my friend.
One of the worst supports I've ever worked with.
For simple problems their support is Ok.
However; for more significant issues they are literarily the worst!!!
It takes days is not weeks to solve problems with equipment used in PRODUCTION environment.
I use their devices for backup storage and we run into many serious problems when we update the DSM and insert rotated disks.
My backups are not functioning for days and they don't seem to care.
There is no process of elevating the issue so that it is handled with higher priority.
If you are planning on using their equipment in production environment, I would say re-think it.
I'm planning on switching to a different brand that has better support.

I purchased a DS1815+
I purchased a DS1815+. It ran great for 3 years, but the power supply died. They told me they no longer keep spare parts for their units. Warranty is out by about 8 months. I now have a expensive storage unit that cost me $ 3000 that is now only a piece of trash. Don't trust your data on Synology. Don't buy from this unethical company.
A great little storage device DiskStation DS920+
I have had my DiskStation DS920+ for about 2 years now and yes I am very impressed with it, it does everything I need it to do, I make and edit lot's of videos and they are all backed up on my DiskStation, all four bays are full with a total of 27.27TB and 58% full, I find it so easy to use with plenty of free software to download, I have set it up so that should 1 drive fail I will not lose any data.
If there is one bad thing to say it would be when I first set it up I did not know what software to install for my needs, but that's a learning curve.
When it's time for me to upgrade I will be looking at investing in another but larger DiskStation from Synology.
