Not Recommend! AVOID!

Not Recommend!! Product is incompatible with Virgin Routers, not supported at all - waste of money. Don't waste your money on something that is unreliable. Consistent connection issues, slow transfer speeds when it does work. This is a time over cost issue, I've spent more time trying to get the thing to work than it's worth. The support from the company will simply just fob you off with their ticket system and they lack a real interest or provide consistency in their responses. Customer support is zero!

I'm very happy with Synology support

I'm very happy with my (now 5 years old) Synology NAS

The other day I had forgotten the administrator password. It was a disaster... But Synology customer service helped me with a quick and easy solution that would save my data and get the NAS up and running again very soon.

I'm very happy with their support. Many companies do not support older products unless you pay.

Data loss & Terrible Support response

We have been losing data (ie files) through their Cloud Sync process. We have given them the evidence that the DROPBOX sync side is fine. None of files are missing on DROPBOX just on the Synology NAS.
They take over 24 hours to respond and thanks to timezones it can be 48 hours to get a response. Impossible to work with in practical terms. No ability to call them or have a online session or even pay for support. Refuse to respond to any questions on how to escalate or if you question the delays. They just blame others. Good product - Shame they do not care about customers or the staff working in our small businesses

Don't trust the brand

The hardware is of terrible build quality in many aspects. The software is laggy and overcomplicated. The customer and aftermarket support is a shambles. I would never buy a Synology product again

- Overly sensitive sensors that force you to replace perfectly fine working parts
- Proprietary file formats making it incompatible and impossible to access/use data outside of the Synology unit. ABSOLUTLY NO REASON IT CANT USE NTFS
- Laggy interface with terrible UI
The list goes on.

Wir werden den Fehler kein zweites Mal…

Wir werden den Fehler kein zweites Mal machen auf Synology umzusteigen.
Auf Einmal nur ärger damit, Updates die nicht funktionieren, der Support der einem Rät die Geräte auf Werkseinstellungen zurück zu setzten ... 2FA läuft nicht ... anscheint werden Updates am Kunden getestet.
Wenn die Systeme nicht mehr laufen soll man sie neu machen (sowas musste ich mir noch nie anhören)

Blos die Finger weg davon ... als Bummelgerät zu Hause - OK
Aber BITTE keine KUNDENDATEN darauf Speichern.
Eine Vollkatastrophe ...

I got a DS220j and its great!

I got a DS220j as I wanted a central home hub for all my movies and TV shows. I have had zero issues with the NAS and streaming movies and TV shows is so easy. The Video station app is great and for the phone I use the DS video app. Its exactly what I needed. I can also make accounts for family and friends with customised privileges.

Had great communication from the start with Synology. I cant seem to find a way to get devices to mutually speak when it comes to keeping track of watchtimes, but that isn't really a huge issue. Maybe its setting a dont know about? Also, It sometimes wont hibernate, a slightly more annoying issue but im still trying to figure that out.

I highly advise people get an API key from the movie database website. Makes the video streaming apps A LOT nicer by importing meta data automatically.

Overall, its a great unit and does everything I needed it to do. Perfect for the home! Family loves it.

Unreliable product, extremely poor customer service

I've had an 8 bay Synology NAS for a little under 6 years and I had it replaced once after total failure and loss of all my data and now more hardware failure. Customer support take a minimum of 24hrs to give a reply of a few words to your requests. Appalling customer service especially for a product costing so much!

Brought a basic NAS for home

Brought a basic NAS for home. Product seems solid enough. Not quite as simple to set up as you are led to believe but, easy enough. I do have some knowledge of network configuration so that might have helped slightly. A lot of apps to use, if not a few too many as this can look confusing to some. Would recommend.

Ich kann mich der vielen negativen Meinungen zum…

Ich kann mich der vielen negativen Meinungen zum Thema "Synology Support" anschließen. Kurz zur Vorgeschichte. Ich kaufte mir vor einem halben Jahr DS1621+ als Upgrade für mein ausgedientes 2-bay NAS System, ebenfalls von Synology. Das vorgehende NAS lief 5 Jahre ohne murren und knurren, bis dann das DS1621+ kam. Ich habe jeden Einschub mit frischen NAS Seagate Festplatten belegt und das System nach meinen Bedürfnissen eingerichtet. Vor rund einer Woche passierte es. Das DS1621+ piept plötzlich von einem Moment auf den anderen, ohne Vorankündigung und schaltet auf Alarm. Ich stellte fest, dass die Laufwerke 1-3 nicht mehr gedreht haben. Ich kann zum Entschluss, dass das NAS defekt ist und ich somit dachte: "Kein Problem, Synology tauscht das Ding sicher aus." Von wegen. Nach Kontaktaufnahme bei Synology hat die Tortur begonnen. Zunächst einmal bietet Synology keinen Direktaustausch an. Ich wurde also auf den Händler verwiesen. Das ist die erste große Unverschämtheit. Gesagt getan, ich meldete mich beim "Großen Fluss" und die haben mir auch direkt einen Austausch angeboten, wenn da nicht der aktuelle Chipmangel wäre. Das NAS war wie zu erwarten war, bis auf unbestimmte Zeit nicht verfügbar. Also musste ich mich anderweitig nach einem Ersatzgerät umschauen. Ich musste also drauflegen und bestellte daraufhin für 100 EUR zusätzlich, dass Ersatzgerät bei einem anderen Shop. Und als es ankam dachte ich mir, dass ich ja theoretisch die 6 Festplatten über Plug&Play wieder reintun kann. Falsch gedacht. Das System erkennt zwar wieder alle 6 Platten, jedoch meldet es nun, dass mein Speicherpool nicht zusammengefügt werden kann. Das brachte mich zum nächsten Fehler, mich erneut beim Synology Support zu melden. Ich befolgte die Anweisungen von Herrn W. Unter anderem sollte ich den erweiterten SMART Test machen und die Log Datei an Synology senden. SMART Werte aller 6 Platten wurden als in Ordnung angezeigt. Nach tagelangem hin und her schrieb mir Herr W. von Synology, dass meine Festplatten defekt seihen und ich diese austauschen muss. Ich wurde auf die Statusmeldungen im System verwiesen, was ja auch der Grund war mich bei deren Support zu melden. Zuvor soll ich aber noch ein Backup meiner Daten machen! Ja wie denn?! Ich habe mir dieses NAS als Backup Lösung angeschafft!! So wurde ich also erneut von Synology im Regen stehen gelassen. Ich muss mich wohl alleine um eine Lösung für dieses Dilemma umsehen, da Synology nicht in der Lage ist seinen "After Sales Service" anzubieten. Was der Support nämlich gut kann, ist es sich aus der Affäre zu ziehen. Es interessiert Synology ja noch nichtmal die Meinung seiner Kunden indem man nach einer Supportanfrage einen Fragebogen oder sowas per Mail im Nachgang erhält. Es ist also ein Glücksspiel sich ein Gerät von Synology anzuschaffen. Entweder es läuft jahrelang ohne Probleme aber wehe ein Problem tritt auf. Dann hat man nämlich verloren. Ich empfehle daher niemandem sich Produkte von der Marke Synology zu erwerben.

Synology NAS are not configured for internet connection

Synology NAS. As a user of a Synology ds115j NAS with years of 'experience' I can say BE WARE. If you, like me, are a basic home user and are hoping a Synology NAS will provide you with a network disk or private cloud where you can [automatically] upload your image files to from your smartphone then you must know that the typical Synology NAS is NOT CONFIGURED for external connection when delivered. In other words if you are hoping that all your image files get uploaded to your NAS when you are on holiday then you are in for dissapointment: the synology mobile apps will only work when you are at home [connected to your own network]. Unless you are a systems engineer or a real networking fanatic with intimate knowledge of configuring ones modem/router and are at home with configuring port forwarding, DDNS, re-assigning IP addresses and know what DHCP is all about then you, like me, are not going to try and re configure the NAS and ones modem/router to achieve external connection for fear of messing all the settings up and rendering oneself totally disconnected from the internet and with a lame NAS. There are tutorials out there which cover what one must do to achieve that desired external contact but it's a minefield for the inexperienced home user. I am prepared to bet that I am just one of many basic home users who purchased a [synology] NAS device hoping for a private cloud and have only a external hard disk which one can only use at home. Lots of income for the dealers of these devices bu a major dissappointment to thousands [or more] users like me. If you are not prepared to go thru the minefield of configuration then go for Dropbox [free] which will work all over the globe without problem and then transfer ones image files to a [external] drive at home, your image files are uploaded and available for backup but you are far less out of pocket and you will be saving yourself a lot of frustration. No doubt Synology deliveres good kit, for a busness with Tech Wallas available but we the 'average guys' just pay out and are left out in the cold. No Synology will sell you a NAS but does not give you any idea about its connectivity, nor does Synology provide a simple connectivity routine which is easy to follow for the man in the street.

Synology RS2421+

The latest product we purchased was the RS2421+
Unless you wish to buy Synology's own overpriced untested drives, please don't buy one. Both Seagate and Western Digitals NAS drives are not supported. This means you cannot use the worlds most trusted hardware inside. They have no plans to support them any time soon either. Their support department is unhelpful and take ages to reply to any communication.

Pretty good NAS product until you need support.

The 920+ is a pretty good NAS product until you need any sort of support. Support is basically copy paste link replies without even really reading your ticket.

I bought one of these so i wouldnt need to deal with, spend time fiddling with no-name or DIY products but support level for this 2 month old Synology purchase is just dismal.

UPDATE: TBH other than the, quality of support, after more than 2yrs of use the product is very stable and reliable. (added one star)

You’ve lost my business…

I’ve had the same problem as others here. Spent £3k on a 10 disk NAS. The system has a known fault within the warranty period but Synology didn’t tell me. They waited until I was out of warranty to inform me of that then I just got copy/paste answers back…like go buy a new system. You should have replaced within the warranty period etc. Synology need to understand that these things are called INHERENT faults, not failures due to items being old. In every industry I work in, inherent faults get sorted by the supplier. Anyway, I will be migrating my companies many NAS drives to a competitor… so for the sake of them refusing to repair my caddy, they’ve potentially lost about £15k per year of custom because they’ve confirmed they have no regard whatsoever to their (previously loyal) customers.

Quality tech support, quality product!

I just bought a DS920+ and had issues with accessing over the network. I had to call tech support and was pleasantly surprised. I spoke to a live person within about 5 minutes after making the appropriate menu selections. The technician sounded like a native English speaker and was very knowledgeable about the product and troubleshooting. Though we concluded I have a networking issue unrelated to the product, he was able to help me find an acceptable workaround until I am able to resolve it. So far the NAS is working great with the RAID and my Plex streaming.

Die Erreichbarkeit des Support für langjährige Kunden mit mehreren aktiven Servern ist eine Katastrophe. Beim nächsten Hardware refresh werden wir das System wechseln.

I asked Synolgy Support for help…

I asked Synolgy Support for help downgrading from dsm7 to dsm6.
This is not possible and I just got unpleasent answers and so on.
Therefore, consider whether it is a Synology product you want to buy or a NAS from a competitor to Synology.
