Truly awful product package.
Useless customer support and dreadful setup software. Why can't these clowns use a standard downloaded install program instead of something that looks like a file from Adobe and refuses to work. The customer support procedure is designed to make contact with a real person completely inaccessible, and their software does not allow NTFS file access. Not for me and it is going back. It never worked.
Technical support went beyond expectations when fault was found not to be related to their hardware
I have had a Synology NAS for quite some time now and have found it really straightforward to setup and operate. However, I have fairly recently setup on Surveillance station to monitor 2 CCTV cameras I have and had some issues with video stutter/lag etc. The support team were very helpful in doing the basic checks for me to see if this was likely a hardware fault or more likely a network fault. When it was found to more likely than not be a network fault, whilst this is really outside of their remit, the support team provided me with some really useful diagnostic checks and advice which eventually, along with others, helped me identify the issue and get it resolved, such that my system is now working flawlessly and reliably - it has in fact helped me identify an issue with one of the cameras I am using which was not previously identifable as the network issue was masking this other issue.
Awful customer service
No possibility of speaking to a human on chat or phone. Turned away by marketing team. Awful customer service.
J'ai acheté un DS923+
J'ai acheté un DS923+, qui m'a coûté un peu plus de 600€, et j'ai également dû dépenser de l'argent pour les disques durs. C'est un produit coûteux, mais le logiciel est facile à utiliser et, jusqu'à présent, répond à la plupart de mes besoins.
Il est vrai que si vous passez de Google ou Apple Photos à Synology Photos, vous serez déçu - la gamme de fonctionnalités n'est tout simplement pas la même. Cependant, cela vous permettra de mieux comprendre la consommation d'énergie de tous ces actifs numériques - un NAS consomme de l'électricité jour et nuit! Cela dit, il est rassurant de savoir que j'ai toutes mes données chez moi, plutôt que sur des serveurs partout dans le monde.
J'ai eu un seul problème avec le service client de Synology (je pense que la personne avec laquelle j'ai traité était basée en France). J'ai trouvé leur réponse très rapide, professionnelle et efficace.
En somme, je suis satisfait de mon achat, même si cela m'a coûté cher. Je recommande Synology pour la facilité d'utilisation de leur logiciel et leur excellent service client.
Avoid Synology Routers if you Want Something that Lasts
I have invested in several Synology routers and when they work they're great, The trouble is there appears to be a flaw in their router products. I purchased an RT2600ac router at the end of 2020. In the last few months it has started dropping WiFi. I logged a support ticket with Synology and after some investigation they have confirmed that the flash drive on the router has reached the end of it lifespan.....2.5 years after I purchased it. A bit of searching and it appears other people discussing the issue on Synology's own forums have reported the problem to Synology over a year ago. The issue turns out to be a problem with the software making too many read writes to flash drive. I have a number of other access points which are degrading at the same rate which leads me to believe there is a fundamental issue with their routers that isn't being addressed. Considering how expensive these devices are I would expect them to last longer than 2.5 years. Even more frustrating is the warranty is 2 years so they last just long enough to be out of warrant before they die. Even the router supplied by my ISP has lasted 8 years and is still going.
My advice is to choose another brand if you want something that lasts longer than 2 years.

Für meinn DS918 + warte ich seid letztem Update auf Unterstützung. Setze das Gerät für geschäftliche Tätigkeiten ein. Bin sehr erstaunt dass solche Geräte immer verkauft werden. Nach Update werden Daten nicht mehr synchronisiert!! Eine Stunde am Telefon gewartet um mit einen sogenannten "first Level" Operator zu sprechen der mit nicht helfen kann obwohl ich alle Infos geschickt habe. Fälle werden bei Synology nur intern als wichtig priorisiert!!! Da musste ich erstmal schlucken!! Extrem unprofessionelles Support und Nichtkundenorientiertes Support-Philosophie!
Don't buy a Synology and think you can…
Don't buy a Synology and think you can be on a secure Cloud station. They have a bug with SSL certificate. So every month you shall login and and type password in the client.
If you don't see this, you end up not having all data synced and can spend hours of migrate it all together again.
They don't seem to understand that this is a bug, they say that this is the way SSL certificate is being made. But come on. Let's say this was a website. So every freaking month webadmin shall change IP in the DNS settings :D? What a big mess this would be.
Use another brand to do cloud. Synology is not one of them!
Buy a used Synology, the new ones are software limited.

I have just bought a new Synology DS privately, I have been using your products for more than 10 years and have never recommended anything else for a NAS device to any one asking me. We have also been using your rack/xs models at work as it has been very reliable. However I think this might be my last synology device if a choose to keep it, where I have bought it they have a 14 days return policy.
I have just installed it and added 2 x 2Tb Samsung 980 2Tb M2 drives and 3 x Segate 6Tb drives and I realized that the Segate drives I get a warning that they are not supported however I can use them, the M2 drives are useless, I do not need a 2Tb SSD cache.
Where I bought the device in the specs section it said it supported storage pools on M2 drives now, and even if that is not a direct lie it would have been more correct to say it supports Synology M2 drives.
In the past your product got popular because it just worked, that is no longer the case and this is the last synology I will ever buy.
I attempted to send this to you on Synology.com, however you webpage did not let me send it due to a character limit of 1024, after I had spend 10 min to fit it into you textbox that had a different limit.
And see how time has changes, I gave you 5 stars here on trustpilot 11 years ago for a support case.

Nach Upgrade Win10 auf Win11 keine Verbindung mehr zur DS213+ möglich. Hotline reagiert weder auf Telefon noch Tickets. Im Chat bekommt man nur die FAQs vorgelesen. Ich warte jetzt schon seit 8 Tagen auf eine Rückmeldung. Super enttäuschend diese Coldline.
Schade das ich zwei DS Stationen habe- das waren sicher die letzte von dieser Firma!

Had ds1815+ bone day it stoped working, no parts available to fix it. Was thinking to build my own NAS but ended up buying smaller version DS418play. works great but I must say security is mutch harder than loging in your bank account. I hate the idea that everytime to log in and upload family pictures need to go thrue the hell and all thos passwords and suspisios activities just keep blocking my access. I wich I just build my own... I will next time.

Nachdem die Platten einmal von einem Überfallkommando in Uniform, im abgeschalteten Zustand aus dem Gerät entfernt wurden, bekomme ich das RAID 5 nicht mehr zum laufen. Es wird maximal 1 Platte als normal angezeigt und die anderen 4 entweder als nicht initialisiert oder mit "Systempartitionierung fehlgeschlagen angezeigt. Reparatur schlägt mit verschiedenen Fehlermeldungen fehl.
Also nicht sonderlich gut dieses System, es ist wohl eher auf die Online Durchsuchung der darauf gespeicherten Daten ausgelegt und nicht wirklich als NAS zu gebrauchen.

Ich hatte zwei teure Riesenfehler mit dem Kauf von Synology NAS - 5 Platten- im Raid 5 - gemacht. Erste 1019 mit 5 Platten ( WD red 4 Tb) NAS bootete nach 15 Monaten nicht mehr. Nur blaue LED. Dann zweites Nachfolgermodel 1515 gekauft. Platten eingesetzt und wurden auch erkannt. Nach etwa 2 Jahren ohne Dauerbetrieb auch hier wieder kein Booten möglich. Wieder nur die blaue LED. Die haben offensichtlich ihre teure Hardware nicht im Griff. Meine Platten waren ok und nicht defekt, jedoch leider nicht wegen des speziellen Filesystems nicht auslesbar.
Zu viele Probleme, schlechter Support
Ich kann jedem nur abraten, ein Gerät von Synology zu kaufen. Es gibt einfach zu viele Probleme:
- Uploads brechen ab, fatal für ein System das Backups machen soll
- es gibt ständige Verbindungsprobleme
- die Fotos werden in der DS App mit geringer Auflösung angezeigt, was eine Auswahl auf dem Tablet unmöglich macht
- die DSM Platform zeigt keine Thumbnails für Videos an
- die Apps sind einfach nur schlecht, veraltet
- die Ordner sind mit iOS und Android via Quickconnect nicht zugänglich ... man kommt nicht rein und man kommt nicht an die Dateien.
Der Mitarbeiter im Support hat meine Beschreibung des letzten Problems nicht mal verstanden. Sein Englisch ist ein Desaster und einfach nur unverständlich.

responce times for such a business critical piece of hardware should be more than an email response time of 12 hours. No phone tech support.
PLUS - the immediate response with any hardware issues is that you need to replace the whole unit - rather than providing any repair options - so if you have any respect for the environment at all and want a device that is going to provide the tech support when you need it - my advice is to go with another supplier.

You just lost a customer over a shipping label today.
Worse yet, you will not gain other customers in the future because I would never support you as a company again.
Your product broke.
Your product was still under warranty.
Your support process took 1 month of back and forth and at the end you were unwilling to own up to your product promise.
You made your failed warranty process my problem, the customers problem.
You wanted your broken product back. Which may or may not make sense.
Don't make your customers pay for it.
You adding insult to injury.
Solid build with good range of apps
I've never contacted their technical support, perhaps that's a plus but in general, I've been very happy with their products.
I've purchased one personally and one for work. The personal NAS recently saved all my photos (one of the NAS drives failed). I bought another, simple change and all back to normal.
The business one was a cheap solution to backup Google drives and it works wonderfully. Every night without fail it performs an incremental backup. It's great knowing it's there and it's saved me more than once when people have deleted things they shouldn't have!
Horrible Technical Support
I really like the product but recently the technical support has gone from good to horrible. I've been finding better information by Googling it then what technical support provides.
AWFUL
AWFUL! DO NOT BUY!!!! Absolute waste of money, I kept getting prompted to update it and when I did the software deleted all of my data and totally ruined me. NEVER AGAIN. Awful customer service too.
None existent Technical Support
Technical Support! what a joke, they only give help if the unit ( which may have cost you over £1000.00) to is still under guarantee, no guarantee clear off! What an abysmal attitude, They designe NAS units that have no protection whatsoever if the power to your house goes off while their NAS is doing an system update, and offer absolutely no help whatsoever to recover the corrupt software, telling you to just purchase another unit! Bunch of criminals if you ask me.
Godt tilfreds med Synology
Har været rigtigt godt tilfreds med Synology, har haft ca 5 af deres server over en lang periode, den nyeste er nu en DS220+ og deres software og hardware virker bare og de understøtter deres produkter i mange år med opdateringer, har aldrig haft problemer med deres NAS.
Så kan kun anbefale Synology - 5 Stjerner herfra
