Excellent for beginners - make sure you book a group lesson!

This was my third lesson at the snow centre with Dylan the instructor. Dylan was superb, he was patient and genuinely interested in getting us to the next level. Couldn’t have been more enthusiastic and just overall a great instructor.

Deeply disappointing and inflexible customer service

I am extremely disappointed with how The Snow Centre handled a genuine family emergency that prevented attendance at a booked lesson.

Despite explaining the circumstances and engaging with them in good faith, the booking was automatically classed as a “no-show” and a full refund was refused for a service that was never provided. The only way they were willing to reconsider was by demanding private medical documentation relating to a family member an unreasonable and inappropriate expectation, particularly when the individual concerned is not the attendee and does not consent to sharing personal records.

What was most frustrating was the complete lack of empathy or discretion. The response throughout was rigid, policy-driven, and dismissive of the reality that emergencies do not operate on convenient timelines. Repeating “terms and conditions” does not equate to fair or ethical treatment, especially when no service was delivered and no benefit was received.

Businesses inevitably face last-minute cancellations how they respond says everything. In this case, customer care was replaced with bureaucracy, and common sense was entirely absent.

I would strongly caution anyone booking here to be aware that even genuine emergencies may be met with zero flexibility and that you could lose your money regardless of circumstances.

Very disappointing experience, and not one I would recommend.

My wife and I are going skiing again after a break of nearly twenty years. We had a private lesson with Amber at Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre. Could not rate the experience higher! Amber was a patient and knowledgable instructor and we both had a really fun time getting some confidence back. Snow Centre staff were all very polite and helpful despite it being a busy time of year.

I spent over £500 on lessons here and unfortunately was unable to attend my Level 4 lesson, meaning I paid an additional £65 for a voucher instead. Due to the summer season, this voucher then expired before it could be used.

I contacted The Snow Centre to ask if the voucher could be transferred to my sister, who was keen to start lessons with them. Despite our previous spend and willingness to book further lessons, they refused to offer any flexibility or goodwill.

Given the amount of money already spent and the potential for continued custom, this was a very disappointing outcome. I feel the situation could have been handled much better, and based on this experience, I wouldn’t recommend them.

I booked a beginners' day snowboarding lesson with Nadine, who was super friendly and fun and had us all riding comfortably and stringing together some turns by the end of the day. One of the best days out I've had in a long time and I'll definitely be back for a follow on lesson soon!

First class coaching with Kate Brooks. My 8 year old daughter had her 2nd snowboarding lesson tonight and the progress made in the session was amazing. Kate was outstanding and Harriet loved every minute and wants to have more sessions with Kate to continue improving and learn from her experience. Thank you Kate. We’ll see you very soon!

My wife and I have been coming on and off to the snow centre for a couple of years. I did all their classes from a complete beginner.

We felt a little rusty heading into a snowboarding trip to Levi in Feb and booked a 1hr private lesson to iron out a few wrinkles in our techniques.

Jemima provided the hours session and was just exceptional! We enjoyed her company and conversation, it was informative and constructive but also casual and relaxed.

She’s clearly a very skilled and talented snowboarder and identified some areas to improve quickly. I personally felt like I made big strides after only an hour with her and my (much more experienced) wife took a few pointers on board too!

She also stuck around after the session to help make some adjustments to our bindings, which she absolutely didn’t have to do!

Just wanted to leave a review to identify her personally, because she was great!

Len P (instructor) made the 2 hour, level 4 lesson, very enjoyable and worth every penny.

Outstanding two days practise before my trip. After 13 years I was super nervous and a little Bambi on ice! But Stu really was an excellent instructor - patient and supportive. He helped me feel way more confident and get back into my stride. He was excellent too at spotting group members in need of more support and showed up everywhere he was needed. A credit to the place and a very strong reason to come back! The ladies at the desk were also super helpful and helped me change my second lesson level, with some awesome real-world advice about the different French resorts near my holiday destination. I will be back to practice!

Booked a two hour ski session and walked out after about an hour because it was an absolute shambles!

The slope was rammed. Way too many people on it to feel safe or actually enjoy skiing. You’re constantly dodging others and half the time there’s nowhere to go. It felt chaotic and stressful rather than fun.

Then there’s the lift queues. Five minutes or more every single run. You pay for two hours and spend a massive chunk of that time just standing around waiting. That is not what you’re paying for.

Between the overcrowding and the queues, it was poor value for money and genuinely didn’t feel safe. I left early because it just wasn’t worth staying.

I’ve complained directly and asked for a refund for the unused time. Still waiting for a proper response.

If you’re thinking of booking at peak times, be warned. It looks like they’re overselling sessions and the experience really suffers.

I had an amazing experience here, its one of best places to learn snowboarding. The facilities are clean, well-organized, and perfect for beginners and improvers.
A special shout- out to Coach Raul, who was absolutely brilliant. He explains everything clearly, is incredibly patient, and knows exactly how to build confidence step by step. His teaching style made such a big difference, and we progressed much faster than expected!

Complained as child of 10 walked off slope saying Stage 1 lessons were so boring that they never wanted to come back.

Child quote: 'we had to wait for kids my age to learn how to tighten there boots and stand up...I went down the slope 4 times in one hour...'

Response: Each lesson is different, as learning is a process that varies from person to person. Our instructors tailor each session to the needs of the group, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to develop their skills at a comfortable pace. In group lessons, the pace is set by the youngest or least experienced participant to ensure that all members can progress safely and confidently, and from thre infomation that i have been given, your child has passed the stage that they were booked in for, which is great.

Essentially, book at your peril, book for 8 equally capable kids at once or book a private lesson for two (fraction more than a one off Stage 1 - zero progress session - and cover 2-3 lessons in one go)

Lee C, the trainer from Hemel Hempstead was elite. This is my 3rd lesson and I’ve never felt more confident with a trainer. Legendary guy, good experience and expertise, funny attitude and always allowed us to make mistakes and learn from them in the most patient and nicest way possible. Real real solid session, can’t rate the place any higher, and also can’t rate my trainer higher! Thank you

A good slope and decent equipment but the price has gone crazy hence 2 stars. I just paid 40 pounds for a junior for one hour slope pass which is far more than anywhere else I have been.

I had a fantastic experience taking a private snowboard lesson with Caroline L. She is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and attentive to my skill level. Her tips and guidance helped me improve my technique and boosted my confidence on the slopes. The personalized attention made all the difference, and I truly appreciated her friendly and professional approach. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enhance their snowboarding skills in a supportive environment!

Extremely misleading and terrible customer service. Don’t buy a monthly lift pass.

We bought a family monthly lift pass at significant cost to then find out when trying to book a session that we couldn’t ski at the weekend without paying £58 extra due to an event.
When buying the lift pass the website doesn’t say anything about this and in fact clearly says you can ski “each day” “for one low price”

Their customer service just says it’s in their terms and conditions!
Complete false advertising in my view.

Be careful before booking anything!

Disappointing customer service. I booked a ski lesson for my children aged 10 and 8 who have only skied a few times in lessons here. I wasn’t told at the time of booking that half the slope was going to be moguls. Our instructor said to us it’s very difficult to teach with half the slope not being accessible and spent half the lesson just watching my two descend the slope rather than giving them active instruction. A waste of money for the lesson and it wasn’t cheap!

We had the best experience! My 3 year old has started a block of lessons with Adam and he was brilliant with him. He totally got the brief of just keeping him smiling and having fun and learning at the same time. We can't wait for our next lesson!

We are regulars (snowboarding) at the snow centre and it is a fabulous place to go. A monthly lift pass is great value and means you can go when you like. The monthly pass includes “freestyle Thursdays” which has jumps, rails and boxes set up, with helpful instructors giving tips, and features suitable for those just starting freestyle as well as much more challenging ones which are great to watch the action on!

Massive thanks to coach Rob who regularly makes our evening with his enthusiasm, insightful coaching and endless encouragement- we come away always with big smiles and cant wait to come back.
