Libby has been fantastic with Molly
Libby has been fantastic with our 6-month-old Rhodesian Ridgeback, Molly. Her obedience training is excellent, and she’s incredibly skilled at assessing behaviour, providing practical coaching, and making effective course corrections when issues arise.
Molly has made great progress, and we’ve always felt supported and confident in Libby’s guidance. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, professional, and caring dog trainer.
Very unhelpful
Have contacted adolescent dogs on WhatsApp to help with an issue. They have been very unhelpful. Poor communication. Poor customer service. I do not recommend this business to any dog lover.
The pathway to a more fulfilled life with our dog.
We were getting so disillusioned by the situation with our 19 month old mini-schnauzer Archie. Since we had him the majority of our time had been spent taking him in the car to go for a walk, and avoiding busy places, cafes, local parks etc. He couldn’t be a full part of our lives. We are first time dog owners and have been on a massive learning curve. Archie had always been lovely at home apart from being a bit excitable at times and following us around which my husband found difficult. But the situation with other dogs had been extremely difficult to manage. He had always been extra vigilant and had barked and lunged around other dogs. We took him to puppy classes in the early days and he was put in the ‘naughty corner’ as everything was too overwhelming for him and we had to pull him out. Then we had several 1:1s with a trainer who was encouraging a good approach but we were getting nowhere and progress was so slow if non-existent. His approach did not involve any strategies apart from trying to gradually get closer to dogs, rewarding Archie when he looked at us or when he looked at other dogs and did not bark or lunge, but Archie very rarely looked at us. Adolescent Dogs price for residential training is expensive but it is so worth it. We decided to pay for a four week stay with Lia when we went on holiday. The best decision we ever made!!! In four weeks she achieved so much with Archie, whose behavior around other dogs was very ingrained. The biggest difference has been his ability to focus on us in all situations and to walk to heel. Before he marched ahead, and very rarely looked at us and his behavior around other dogs was chaotic despite us trying to follow the other trainers approach. Now he can remain relatively calm around other dogs, focus so much more, walk with us, check in regularly and his general obedience is so massively improved. He is calmer at home, more self reliant, doesn’t follow us around or jump up. The progress has been spectacular. Lia is so kind, and we have built a relationship with her as a trainer which we never had before. She communicated regularly during the residential with photos and videos. She put together a great training plan, and is always there to support us via WhatsApp. She is so focused on really helping us to help Archie and it is so apparent how much she cares. The crucial thing is that she is lazer focused on helping us to follow the training plan and learn all the skills we need. We cannot recommend her enough. We need to continue the hard work and progress she has made but now we see a way forward to have the life with Archie that we always planned but were previously unable to achieve. Thank you so much Lia!!!
Adolescent Dogs and Natalie are fantastic!!
I chose the amazing Natalie to train our beloved rescue pup Rocco and I could not have made a better decision. I was a first time dog owner and very nervous but dedicated to ensuring Rocco had the best start in life and that is exactly what Natalie has given him. She was incredibly kind and devoted to Rocco and welcomed him into her family with open arms. He spent 13 weeks with Natalie and came back to me an incredibly happy, loving and unbelievably well trained 5 month old puppy. Not only did Natalie help him master a range of obedience skills, loose lead walking and develop his confidence and socialisation, but we have had so many people comment on how incredibly well trained Rocco is for a dog of his age. Even our vet has commented on how confident and calm Rocco is for a young dog of his breed. Natalie has also always been on hand to answer my many questions about further training and clearly adores Rocco and is deeply invested in his wellbeing and future. We could not be happier with the training Natalie provided and will absolutely use her for any and all future training needs.
Fantastic puppy training encouraging good habits
We have been absolutely delighted with the training our Goldador puppy has received from Libby. I was recommended Libby's services by a very hard to please friend with a beautifully behaved golden retriever. Our puppy has had four training sessions and a two week intensive training stay. He has responded so well to the training and absolutely adores Libby.
As a result of his outstanding training, our puppy has developed excellent understanding of wait, leave it, sit, down, bed, come etc. He also will not eat unless we say OK. In addition, his recall is superb.
Libby took the time in each session to make sure we were also learning the cues properly and did a thorough handover after his intensive training. Each session had links to videos and we were always encouraged to get in touch if we needed clarification on anything.
It had been an absolute pleasure to work with Libby, we have all become very fond of her and are so grateful for her support throughout this exciting journey.
Brilliant experience with Lia
We’ve had a great experience with Lia Tomkins at Adolescent Dogs. Our 6-months-old Rottweiler recently completed a 2-week residential training stay and Lia has been super approachable, friendly and professional throughout.
Due to last minute change of plans we couldn’t take our puppy abroad with us, but we were able to have complete peace of mind knowing Bella was in safe hands. We’ve received daily updates via text, photos, and videos.
A huge priority for us was ensuring that Bella remained the lively and confident puppy she is, rather than being "shut down" for the sake of making a dog "obey". It is important for us to avoid aversive tools like prong collars, which is why we chose Adolescent Dogs for their kind and ethical approach. It was so heartwarming to see that Bella came out of the stay as her same happy self - eager to learn, but now with a bit more manners!
Lia’s dedication is evident even now that Bella is home. She has stayed in touch to check on the dog’s progress and has offered further advice for training. It is clear that Lia genuinely cares about the wellbeing of dogs she’s looking after. She is the trainer who treats dogs with kindness while achieving great results.
Forever thankful to Adolescent Dogs and Lia
After a great deal of research, we chose Adolescent Dogs for our 9-month-old Labrador, Rupert. This was an incredibly emotional decision and came with a lot of guilt, but we genuinely felt he needed expert guidance to help him live a happy, calm, and fulfilled life.
Before contacting Adolescent Dogs we had already completed a local 8-week puppy based course which, unfortunately, wasn’t beneficial for Rupert and felt more focused on selling additional products than addressing his individual needs. We were also determined to avoid a traditional kennel-based facility, so the residential, home-based environment that Adolescent Dogs offer was exactly what we were looking for.
Although the trainer’s location wasn’t our first choice, it truly turned out to be a blessing for both Rupert and us. After dropping Rupert off with Lia, we went home and missed him enormously, ready to collect him if needed. Thankfully he settled in beautifully, which brought us huge reassurance.
From day one, Lia sent daily updates, photos, videos, and detailed weekly reports. This meant everything to us and continually reassured us that we had made the right decision.
Before Rupert went to Lia, walks were stressful and overwhelming. He was constantly distracted and reactive, and we were genuinely worried about what the future might hold for him.
Since bringing him home, the change has been life changing. He is calmer, happier, and far more responsive, it truly feels like we have a different dog.
The handover when we collected Rupert was thorough and incredibly supportive, giving us the confidence to continue his training at home. Ongoing contact with Lia and Adolescent Dog’s online tools, along with the option of up to four more additional free lessons, makes us feel fully supported.
Over the recent bank holiday weekend, we confidently took Rupert to a pub and on his first trip to the beach, both of which would have been utterly unthinkable (and slightly terrifying!) just six weeks ago.
And now, as we write this well deserved review, he is fast asleep under the desk, snoring contentedly. Amen.
So, it goes without saying, we are forever thankful to Lia and everyone at Adolescent Dogs for transforming not just Rupert’s behaviour, but also our confidence and happiness as owners. We cannot recommend them highly enough.
Totally Transformational Training
I'll say up front this training is not cheap, but think of it as an investment in your sanity 😉 Adolescent dogs and our fabulous trainer Verity, helped give us our lives back. We now understand our dog much better, she's happier and so are we. She walks nicely on the lead, comes to recall (even with distractions) and is learning to keep 4 paws on the ground. We thought we were experienced, vizsla owners but our latest lovely girl was driving us bonkers. We had tried one to one training with others from an early age but despite our best efforts the methods just weren't working. Her behaviour was getting worse and we were running out of ideas. Putting our faith in our trainer Verity was just the best decision. We explained our issues and despite feeling guilty at leaving Flora, we knew we had to give it a go. From day one, Verity kept us informed of progress with photos, videos and regular reports. It was clear to us that not only was Flora safe, she was living her best life. At the end of her training we were given instructions as to how to make sure she (and we) didn't regress. If you want someone to train your dog and think that this doesn't require effort from yourself, then this isnt for you. If you're prepared to practice, use the available tools and follow the guidance from your trainer, then I can only say go for it. Verity is still available should we need her and she's really given us the confidence to deal with the super smart, adorable dog that we always knew we had, we just didn't know how to bring out the best of her. In summary, Flora is a different dog to the one we dropped off, we are looking forward to years of fun and we couldn't have got there without Verity and Adolescent dogs.
Thoroughly recommend Petra and the wider Adolescent Dogs team
We booked our 8 month old show cocker Albie in with Petra for 3 weeks to help improve his impulse control and loose lead walking during adolescence as we were really struggling to walk him. He was so distracted by his environment - other dogs, birds, people, leaves etc that he simply would not listen to us. During the 3 weeks we had lots of contact from Petra with weekly updates on Albie’s progress and some lovely photos. We were very reassured that he was having a lovely time as well as training his impulse control and in lots of different environments.
When we picked Albie up, we had a 2 hour walking handover where Petra showed us the strategies that she had been using to engage him and it was obvious that they had bonded nicely and Albie appeared to be much more responsive. The real test was always going to be once we brought Albie home, and 48 hours in, we have found him to be calmer, more responsive, and more engaged with us. This is particularly noticeable on his walks where for the first time he is walking with a loose lead and is much more responsive even around distractions.
We were anxious about sending Albie away and really missed him but were reassured by Petra’s regular updates and are so pleased with his early progress that we would not hesitate to do it again and thoroughly recommend Petra and the wider Adolescent Dogs team.
Excellent programme and support for dog training
We joined adolescent dogs in 2024 for their assistance dogs programme. In just under two years we have now passed our public access test with our 3year old dog, which will allow us more independence and to safely navigate public spaces.
Their programme is structured, clear and supported by a large online resource library, weekly online meetings to answer members questions and concerns, as well as face to face group workshops again tailored to individual needs.
The trainers are friendly, knowledgeable and caring, with a deep understanding of disability and an even deeper understanding of dogs and their behaviour.
The support we ve received on this journey has been amazing and I would recommend adolescent dogs to anyone wanting to improve their dog training techniques or self train an assistance dog.
Couldn’t ask for better
My 1 year old Lab spent 3 weeks with Petra recently which was his first time away from home. Petra made him feel instantly at ease, he made himself at home, was relaxed, comfortable and confident and gained so much from his time with her. He came home much improved and calmer. Petra was always on hand to give updates, advice and the most amazing photos throughout his stay. He can’t wait to come back again
Adele Harrison is a credit to Adolescent dogs.
Adele Harrison is a credit to Adolescent Dogs. I am very happy with the training she gave my little Schnauzer. His confidence is much improved as is his house training. He will now jump into and out of the car.
Her weekly updates and videos were interesting and comprehensive.
We can’t say enough wonderful things…
We can’t say enough wonderful things about Jenny and Mike! They took our puppy, Perri, for 2.5 weeks of residential training and the transformation has been incredible. From the moment we met them, it was clear how knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely caring they are with dogs.
During her stay, Perri learned all the basics and came home with great manners, improved focus, and so much more confidence. Jenny and Mike kept us updated throughout the process, which gave us total peace of mind knowing she was in such capable and loving hands. It’s obvious they treat every dog like one of their own and truly care about setting both the dog and the owners up for long-term success.
We’re absolutely thrilled with the results and so grateful for the time, effort, and dedication they put into Perri. We would highly recommend Jenny and Mike to anyone looking for professional, kind, and effective residential dog trainers. Thank you both for giving Perri such a fantastic start!
Charlotte was great with our Springer…
Charlotte was great with our Springer Barney. We are so grateful for her patience and guidance. We still have a little way to go but the foundations are there to work on. Thanks Charlotte x
I cannot praise Adolescent Dogs highly…
I cannot praise Adolescent Dogs highly enough. First, and most important, they cared for our dog as if she were their own. Katie (our trainer) was kind, thoughtful, responsive and managed not just to train Biscuit but also helped us really understand her and some of the underlying reasons why we'd hit a bit of a brick wall with our efforts. We received daily updates and it was obvious from the first instant that our dog was not only learning a lot but having a great time too. The AD team is responsive, the materials they shared with us are really helpful and practical (but not preachy), and the aftercare was excellent. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for this kind of service.
Perfect for me and my pup 🐶
Twyla Boo my beautiful 5 month old cocker spaniel puppy went for her 2 week residential training Stay with Charlotte. Helping her to have the best start on her journey to become my assistant pup 🐶
Charlotte is an amazing trainer 💕. So supportive, kind and caring. Answering all of my questions, queries and worrying. Understand my disability and emotional needs.
Tywla Boo training was tailor made to help with the areas I and Twyla Boo are struggling with. One being her barking none stop in the car which she is now so quiet now. it is amazing achievement and my ear are so happy 😂.
Charlotte concentrate on these areas and more.
Tywla Boo learnt and improved so much it is an amazing amount of growth. It was wonderful to see her progress along the way with photos, videos and messages ❤️ this really help with me coping with her been away from me.
I could not recommend enough. I have never felt so seen or heard . The amount of encouragement and support you get is hard to put in to words. Me and Twyla Boo are so thankful and grateful 💕.
4 week residential training
Our puppy stayed with Lia for four weeks. Lia was wonderful and gave us regular updates and videos and it was amazing how much Toby progressed in that time. He is now a pleasure to be with and fits in with our family beautifully. I would highly recommend Adolescent dogs and plan to book stays in future for top up training.
Fabulous assistance dog training
We’ve benefitted from the assistance dog programme, using the videos, the in person assistance dog workshops, the question and answer sessions. All of this along with accessible support with all aspects of training right from the day our puppy arrived through to passing the public access test. Very well presented videos, confidence building workshops. Mike was fabulous with my daughter, got a great rapport going, supported her to engage and achieve super work with her dog. Excellent value for money, making high class training available to all with the various different training options such as online, face to face, workshops, support groups, residential training.
Highly recommended, would absolutely choose Adolescent Dogs every time
We would give 10 stars if we could!⭐️
We cannot thank Adele enough for the incredible care, professionalism and kindness she showed our Labrador puppy during her 3 week residential assistance dog training stay. From day one she went above and beyond, sending regular updates, checking in and making sure we were always completely at ease.
What truly sets Adele apart is the compassion she showed towards our autistic daughter. She took the time to involve her, reassure her, and help her feel confident with her future assistance dog. That level of understanding and patience is something we will always be grateful for.
Our puppy has come home beautifully trained, calm and clearly loved. The progress she has made is remarkable and it’s all thanks to Adele’s dedication and expertise.
She is an absolute superstar and we would recommend her to anyone looking for a trainer who is not only highly skilled but genuinely cares about the dogs and families she works with.
Thank you for making such a positive difference not only to our daughter’s life but us as a family 💚
Special thank you to Jenny 🫶🏻
From over excited pup to a clam well behaved pup who loves to train
I have a lovely black Lab puppy called Mufasa, who like most young labs is like a bouncing ball. I’m wheelchair dependent and hadn’t trained a pup in over 20 years. I knew training Mufasa was going to be a challenge and that I would need help. A friend recommended Adolescent dogs. I made enquiries and signed Mufasa up to a 4 week residential training stay. Mufasa went to live in the home of his trainer Charlotte and her family. I had key areas I needed help with such as recall, loose lead walking next to a wheelchair etc. each day Charlotte sent me photos and videos of Mufasa’s progress. Under Charlotte’s care Mufasa flourished and absolutely enjoyed his training and made a big transformation, Mufasa was engaged, and really keen to learn new things. Mufasa came home a happy settled pup who put all his training into practice.
On Saturday Mufasa returned to Charlotte for his next residential training stay, this time Mufasa is there for 6 weeks, when I was waiting for Charlotte to arrive Mufasa spotted her and went crazy with excitement but as soon as Charlotte spoke to Mufasa he calmed down and trotted off with her for a walk and didn’t even look back to say Goodbye. Charlotte sends me updates everyday and treats Mufasa as if he was her own, he absolutely LOVES her. Mufasa will be with Charlotte until the end of November and then he will return home and we will continue his training at home. I’m so impressed with Charlotte and Adolescent dogs that I’m planning Mufasa’s next Residential stay in the new year.
