The 21 day poetry challenge initiative taken by BookLeaf publishing has given me a wonderful opportunity to publish my free verse poems. It's been a great experience. Appreciate their support all through. Thank you BookLeaf publishing!

I am still in awe that I was able to fulfil a long lost dream. Being a part of the 21 Days Writing Poetry challenge was an amazing, self evolving experience for me. The website where the book is submitted could be made better with more features. The team updated me on time great effort!

The 21-day challenge is a very good initiative. It provided me with the required motivation to convert my thoughts into poetry. Despite few small hiccups, the publishing was very smooth experience. I feel this is a very good initiative to provide an accessible and a very good platform for self publishing.

Bookleaf publishing made my long standing dream of publishing a poetry book possible, for which I am immensely elated and grateful. The joy of receiving the paperback and my poetry book listed on Amazon was unparalleled.
Also, the 100% royalty points policy make them stand apart from the rest of the publishing houses.

However, there are multiple things which could have made the experience better and more satisfactory.
1. There were only two fonts to choose from.
2. The design of the back cover also had to be done in a specific way.
3. There were no options of adding illustrations/pictures within the book.
4. The dashboard for adding/deleting poems wasn't quite user-friendly. I had to delete all poems to rearrange the order of the poems.
5. People who stay abroad can't buy the book.
6. The delivery charge added to the book doesn't seem appropriate and there should be more transparency regarding the pricing of the book.
7. I have to submit this review of receive the author's copy.

I am looking forward to publish another book, but only if the above is taken care of.

I deeply regret choosing BookLeaf Publishing to publish the first book of my life, "She Wrote in Scars." What should have been a memorable and fulfilling journey turned into a series of disappointments, and I feel compelled to share my experience to help other aspiring authors make an informed decision.

Firstly, I was assigned Srisha as my publishing consultant. I pointed out that the “Emily Dickinson Award” mention on the book’s front cover was in white, making it barely visible. I requested for it to either be repositioned to the top or changed to a darker color like black. Both requests were flatly denied. Later, I noticed on BookLeaf’s Instagram page that another author’s book had the award line at the top. When I raised this inconsistency, I was told it was because their package was different. I had purchased the highest package available, priced at ₹11,999 (excluding ₹2,000 registration), and yet basic customization was refused. By the time I could argue further, the book had already moved into the listing phase—leaving me with no recourse.

I chose to overlook this red flag, wanting instead to focus on the joy of publishing my first book. Unfortunately, the issues continued. On the night of May 7, 2025, I received an email informing me that my book had been published and was live on Amazon—without any consultation regarding the book’s pricing, paper quality, printing cost, or my final royalty amount. Despite paying for worldwide distribution, the book is only available in India, that too with an additional delivery charge of ₹80. My friends in the US, Canada, and Australia are still unable to access it, and there is no clear timeline for when (or if) that will change.

When I requested removal of the delivery charge and proposed adjusting the book’s base price instead, I was told it was not possible—just like the color change request for the award line. Amazon offers free delivery on countless titles, yet somehow mine doesn’t qualify. I even asked for documentation so I could escalate the issue to Amazon or take legal action against BookLeaf for overriding my preferences as the author.

To date, I have not received my author copies. Apparently, I must first provide feedback before they inform me—within 48 hours—of when the copies will be shipped. What’s worse, I began receiving unsolicited marketing messages from influencers on Instagram before the book was even released, indicating that my personal data may have been shared without my consent.

There is absolutely no transparency regarding sales or accumulated royalties. I have no idea how many copies have been sold or what earnings I’m entitled to. Without proper tracking, I fear the numbers could be easily manipulated.

And sadly, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

To all budding authors out there: I urge you to avoid BookLeaf Publishing. While their concept may sound promising, the execution is shockingly poor. Choose a publisher that listens to your input, respects your creative control, protects your data, and is transparent about distribution and royalties.

Please choose wisely. You deserve a publisher that supports your dreams, not one that undermines them.

My overall experience with Book Leaf Publishing was largely positive. The writing process was smooth, and the dashboard tools provided made it easy to track my progress. I also appreciated the flexibility and support I received when I requested an extension—the team responded promptly and clearly communicated the revised deadline.

However, I did face some challenges during the publishing phase. Initially, I was informed that my book would go live within 21 days, but this timeline was later extended to 30–45 days, and eventually stretched to about two months. During this period, there were occasional delays in customer support responses, which were only addressed after I followed up more assertively. While the end result was satisfactory, clearer communication and more timely support during the publishing phase would have significantly improved the experience.
