James Ball is evangelistic about the magic of new lenses. And 3 months on from surgery, he’s right, it is magical, I can now drive at night without anxiety, see perfectly without glasses and recovery was swift. It did take about 3 months for my middle distance to become spot on and my eyes to stop feeling dry. But it’s worth the time, and the money. He’s passionate about what he does and gives you complete confidence.

Speaking to people generally about eye surgery everybody had opinion mostly incorrect and ill informed after my own experiences which was first class from start to finish.
I found it to be painless and life changing & all that I would hoped it would be to give me back eye site after my eyes had declined due to my age like most people. My frustration with not wanting to wear glasses and spending my evening’s looking for my glasses while trying to read tv menu or my son having to input my ID number into entry door at pure Gym to get in , life left me longing for my vision back.
My wife had encouraged me to see if it was possible to have my long and short site looked at via Bowcliffe Hall vision who had been recommended to her. There I met a great team of professionals who gave me a free consultation and couple of options that would possibly suit me.
The eye surgery day, I felt well looked after and well informed, what was expected of me and what was happening around me, there was no pain involved in the whole procedure and was all done and dusted within hour of arrival to walking back out of the door.

From initially being very nervous about having eye surgery for my cataracts I was immediately made to feel very welcome and at ease in the clinic.
All the staff are very professional and friendly and James Ball uses first name terms when dealing with patients.
My options were explained to me in detail and recommendations made so that I felt confident in the diagnosis of what I needed to have done.
On the day of the operations the procedure was explained to me and that safety was paramount. This was borne out by the process in the operating room before, during, and after the operation. The whole operation was quick and completely painless with immediate improvements in vision which only got better as the anesthetic effects wore off.

I was quite nervous about cataract surgery on both eyes due to friends who had complications and a negative consultation prior to contacting custom vision. I was impressed with the efficiency and customer service but particularly the sympathetic, reassuring and positive listening of the consultant and optometrist. I was apprehensive for the first eye, as I am a bit of coward - no need to have been worried at all. From start to finish, a fantastic, professional service and I would highly recommend the surgery - as the song goes - "I can see clearly now"! Once again, a very big thank you to all the team.

I underwent Kera Ring surgery in May 2022 by Jack Gourmley. I have had Keratoconus for quite some time now and glasses were not sufficient enough. I did go down the contact lens route, but this was not for me.
That’s when we decided that a Kera Ring implant could be a good option for me.

Prior to the surgery, Jack and the team were very helpful and efficient. The operation went well and Jack ensured I was very comfortable throughout. From checking I was ok to explaining the procedure - he was fabulous from start to finish.

Unfortunately, my eye did not react well to the surgery and I experienced quite a lot of pain and discomfort for around 10 weeks (nobody’s fault, it was just bad luck I guess). With frequent visits to York Hospital and several attempts with different drops and medication, the decision was made to remove the Kera Ring. Jack was fantastic all throughout. He checked in to make sure I was ok and comfortable, and if I wasn’t, he would make sure an appointment was made immediately to see him again so we could review the eye, pain level and any extra medication / drops to help.

Following the removal of the Kera Ring, my eye has healed very well.

Overall, whilst I experienced some difficulty with discomfort and pain, Jack was absolutely brilliant at doing all he could to make sure it was sorted. I felt very reassured and supported throughout the whole process.

I would just like to thank James and his team for my appointment today. I would highly recommend Custom Vision Clinic. I found the experience to be genuinely honest, executed with pride and compassion towards dealing with my eye health and care. Unfortunately I wasn’t suitable for lens replacement as my eyes wouldn’t benefit by removing my own lens as they are in good health at present and with the fine margins of tweaking replacement lenses wouldn’t benefit me.
