Excellent Customer Service

Just wanted to say a big thank you to the team at EPC for arranging one of their technicians/fitters to come out to look at our battery and get it back online.

The guy that came was amazing and so helpful and polite and we are back up and running.

Above and beyond

Mark, didn’t just service the heat pump. He also checked the hot water system and the underfloor heating. Spotting issues with both, that he spent additional time fixing.

Terrible experience

Terrible experience. Arrogant company.
Found EPC through a facebook advert. Was very impressed at first and decided to go with them to fit a heat pump for our refurbishment project. I promptly paid the deposit and was sent proforma information from vaillant and a list of things that needed to be done prior to the install. We had a contact who was very responsive but never told me that we basically needed to complete everything, (which amounted to second fix for our plumber and electrician) give them photos proving this, and then wait 8-10 weeks before they can come to do the installation. This lead time is a crucial piece of information. Turns our contact left EPC while were mid preparation stage, but I was never told. I only found this out when my emails had gone unanswered and i called the company to find out why. I was then told about the crazy long lead time, which would have meant us moving into our house in winter with two small very small kids and no heating or hot water for several weeks. There was very little concern for this, no apology for the lack of communication and even at that point they wouldn’t even pencil in a date because they wanted everything completely finished for the installation first - which was completely unrealistic.

I told my plumber about this, who said it was crazy and recommended another company who could come and do the installation in time for us. The documents i had signed with EPC at the time of paying the deposit made it clear I could cancel and get the deposit back less some minor deductions. So i notified them of this, and then suddenly EPC became more responsive. But it was too late. All confidence had gone and I saw no reason to proceed when we had a clear better alternative that was not going to put my family at risk of having no heating or hot water.

However I am still waiting for the deposit to be returned after two months. They clearly have no intention of doing so. I am now having to prepare a small claims court application.

Also, having gone with another company I now look back on what EPC told me at the preparation stage and don’t think it wasn’t great. Wish I had been with the other company from the start.

Beware.

Thank you for taking the time to set out your concerns. We are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations and appreciate the opportunity to clarify the situation.

At the outset of the project, EPC provided an installation timeframe that was fully in line with our standard process and industry norms for heat pump installations of this type. This timeframe was contingent on all prerequisite works being completed and signed off, which was clearly outlined in the documentation provided at deposit stage. An installation date was available within the agreed timeframes once the project was ready to proceed.

We acknowledge that your original point of contact left the business during your preparation phase. While the project itself remained active and managed internally, we accept that this change should have been communicated more clearly and we apologise for the frustration this caused.

Regarding the deposit, EPC is not withholding it in full. As set out in the terms you signed, the deposit is refundable subject to deductions for costs already incurred. By the time cancellation was received, the project had progressed to an advanced pre-installation stage, including system design, specification, manufacturer coordination, administrative processing, and resource allocation. These costs are material, not minor, and are currently being itemised in line with the contract.

We also apologise that the refund process has taken longer than expected. This period coincided with our busiest operational window of the year, and we experienced unforeseen staff absences due to sickness. That said, we recognise this does not change your expectations, and the matter is now being actively progressed.

A director of EPC will be in direct contact with you to finalise the refund calculation and bring this to a conclusion. Our intention has always been to resolve this fairly and in accordance with the agreement, not to delay or avoid repayment.

While we regret that you chose not to proceed with EPC, we wish you well with your installation and trust the above clarifies our position.

professional, expert, helpful

We installed a Vaillant heat pump with EPC two years ago. Every aspect of the installation was dealt with with a professional and competent manner: the installation was top notch (not a single problem across two years); on the handful of occasions we needed help with the controls EPC staff were very helpful and sorted our problem quickly and efficiently. The heat pump has been working seamlessly.

There are two points worth special mention. First, in trying to decide whether to install a heat pump or not, EPC staff did not do a hard sell: they tried hard to offer us objective advice, to help us make the right decision for our household. It is worth pointing out that, as we are one of the first households in the area to install a heat pump, we had a lot of trouble getting approval from the local building authority (the regs have changed now, but basically at the time we needed planning permission because of the volume of the pump). EPC were fantastic helping us navigate a fairly complex and unpleasant exchange with planners. The second point is that we needed the heatpump positioned on top of our garage, on the side of the house (we live in a semi detached house). This was hardly trivial -- the machine is about 200 kg. The EPC installer was brilliant, using a winch to lift it over. It felt a bit like pulling a rabbit out of a hat, moving the machine where it needed to be.

We have been using EPC for the annual heat pump service. Also, we are looking to bring them back to install solar panels to our home. Definitely extremely happy with everything they did; we highly recommend them.

Good service and an efficient heating system

EPC designed and installed the system we have which is somewhat different to standard UK installs. EPC continue to provide an annual service which is comprehensive and thorough. Both James and Mark are always ready to answer any questions.
