Great report, really detailed but easy to read

Absolute waste of time
Absolute waste of time. I bitterly regret instructing Fourth Wall to do my survey. My report showed just one significant issue that I was already aware of so I went ahead with the purchase only to discover 6 weeks after completion that the roof needed to be replaced. I had paid extra to have the roof assessed as this was my biggest area of concern. I contacted Fourth Wall to complain and was very quickly sent a lengthy email explaining that this wasn’t their fault. I really don’t understand how it can be ok to miss something so significant. No doubt I will get a response to this review again saying it wasn’t their fault, they didn’t break any guidelines etc etc but my warning to anyone considering this company is to make sure you make clear that you want them to actually look at all areas of the property and not just give assumptions. If they can’t promise to do that then don’t use them.
Update following a Fourth Wall’s edited response after failing to get my review removed. Their reply does not accurately represent the report. Main points being no evidence of water ingress, they wouldn’t have seen any as they didn’t actually enter the loft. Also the statement within the report was that the roof covering ‘will likely require renewal within the next 5–10 years’ when actually it needed immediate renewal.
The offer made after the suspiciously quickly received reply to my complaint was to look at a roofers report and some photos. I’m not sure how that would have helped me.
I may have been naive to expect the thorough survey I thought I was getting. My advice remains to be completely clear about what they will and will not look at before you use them. It should also be noted that I have had no apology or offer to refund the survey cost.

If you are in the process of buying your first home, I would definitely recommend Fourth Wall for your survey.
From my first contact with Fourth Wall, I was put at ease by Rami who kindly arranged for Liam, the surveyor, to call me and kindly guide me through the different types of survey that were available.
I opted for a Level 3 survey and was impressed by the level of detail and simple-to-read layout of the report that followed. Pete sent me the survey which effectively highlighted some work which needs to be done on the property which enabled me to negotiate a fair price.
I honestly can't speak highly enough as each step of the process was done in a timely and helpful way. I have now moved in to my first-time home and couldn't be more grateful to Fourth Wall for their help in making my move a reality.

Thorough, transparent survey on property survey
We recently had a survey conducted by Fourth Wall on a property we wish to buy. The whole process was fast, prompt, transparent and stress free. We have had many surveys in the past but this one stands out as being very informative and jargon free. Follow up questions were dealt with and the uncertainty (and stress!) surrounding the purchase was greatly reduced. We would recommend them to anyone in a similar position. We will not hesitate to commission them in the future.

Detailed and useful survey report
We received an extremely detailed survey from Joshua Weston, which contained really useful information. The level of detail that Joshua provided helped us with planning, and allowed us to go ahead in purchasing our new home. The communication with Fourth Wall was excellent throughout, and we received polite and friendly updates in a timely fashion from Zoe.

We had our survey and the surveyor called at the end of the survey to talk us through some of the problems of the house. We were first time buyer and have loads of questions, yet he answered with patience and gave us lots of details and explanations. Report came in within a week, just as they promised. Great details with many relevant pictures. Certainly he identified a lot of things (major and minor) that we didn't noticed.
We read the report and some questions arise a month later. Email them, got really specific answers and responses with explanations.
Really happy my friend suggested them to us, and would definitely use them again and recommend them.

Brilliant house survey
Joshua Weston did a full survey on our C.1900 property. This is our first property and he really helped us understand the process. The survey was set up quickly and came back within a week, we were so impressed with how comprehensive it was. Following some of the issues raised Josh then referred us to contractors who could provide quotes for the issues within our area going above and beyond after we had bought the property. Brilliant and couldn’t recommend them enough.
Excellent from start to finish
From my very first interaction with Forth Walk I was impressed. The speed that the quote was delivered, works booked in and the turn around time of the finished report was excellent, also the quote was competitive. As a surveyor who has worked in the industry for many years I have come across a variety of firms, however, this one truly stands out.

Didn’t get my survey, rude, waste of time for vendor and agent
The problem with this company is the young founder Josh, he can’t take criticism, and I’m guessing his couple of years in business haven’t taught him how to handle customers correctly. He is rude, abrasive and arrogant. I waited 3 weeks from start to finish to try to get a survey completed from fourth wall. I digitally sign contracts a lot in my 25 years in business but the link that was sent to me was broken - apparently Josh tells me no other person has ever received a broken link (it seems Josh is always right and the customer always wrong). I couldn’t access the invoice and only received one email on the day before the survey should have completed asking me to digisign (broken link!). I went backwards and forwards with codirector Annie, just simply asking for a correct link. All I wanted was my survey. Moving house is stressful, and it’s been made easier by using professional companies who understand time is usually of the essence. Fourth wall (Annie) told me she had marked it as urgent which should mean speedy delivery. Urgent to Annie apparently means it takes their standard 5 days. Which is kind of stupid baring in mind this is a tiny company, with 2-4 people in it and a virtual office to make it appear they have a central Manchester address. Young companies should be hungry enough to be able to complete a survey in a few days (I’ve since spoken to Novello who are a large surveyors who can complete in 2 days!). My other gripe was the fact they couldn’t offer credit card payment. I did ask in an email but was told only bank transfer into their Monzo account. This left me feeling uneasy. I emailed on the Friday when I was to receive the survey to let them know my money was tied up and payment could be made the following Thursday (Josh has since called this ‘refusing to pay’ but I was very clear) But I then got access to funds and paid on the Sunday which was 2 days after I finally gained access to the invoice. I received an email from Josh who basically told me that my email (though he had now magicked up multiple emails) saying he wasn’t going to take abuse and telling me I couldn’t have my survey! Most of what he said was made up, he embellished and exaggerated, making a mountain out of a molehill. This is not how business should be done. He then sent a number of schooling emails to myself, my solicitor and my agent (all of us grown women who have been in business 20 years longer than him) he also copied his entire Fourthwall team in on the emails (2 other graduates) - you know to really show us up, which must have made him feel like a big man. In the end, Josh showed himself up, he showed himself to be a very insecure and inexperienced business man who does not know how to behave. His temper and immaturity had got the better of him and he has opened himself up to criticism of this nature. If Josh had left Annie to deal with the situation and he hadn’t tramped in with all his bravado then client would have been happy and they had retained business. I called Novello to tell them what had happened with fourth wall and they have already booked a surveyor and given me some really good advice because my job is a tricky one. In hindsight I shouldn’t have chosen such a small and new company like Fourthwall who doesn’t have the experience, expertise or sense to deal with this type of structural survey. Dealing with a company like this, with Josh trying to be at the helm, is going to cause problems for customers as if they do have any problems, Josh will make it their fault. He will ruin it for the other people in his team.

I can't thank Fourth Wall enough for his professional, efficient, and superb service. We got booked in for the house survey in just a few days and then communication with the team was fabulous. The report is fantastic - really thorough but easy to understand too - and a follow up chat offered to explain the details of the issues and recommendations.
