This company is absolutely shocking…avoid Gordon Brown Law
EDIT: 10/06/24- GBL have tried to remove my review from Trust Pilot with the comment - "they don't believe this is based on a genuine experience" - I can guarantee this is a genuine experience - I have a reference number for Both Sale and Purchase and can provide these if necessary! - Therefore my Review is now VERIFIED!
Shocking how they can say this when we are STILL awaiting an exchange/completion date!!
Communication slightly improved since raising a formal complaint and posting these reviews!
Original-This company is absolutely shocking with communication, if it wasn’t for me phoning and holding for 30+ mins at a time I’m not sure anything would ever be done!! Every time I tried to speak to the girl dealing with our purchase/sale she was either “on a early/late lunch”, “in a meeting” or “out of office” oh and they also used “the file is locked” so we can’t give you an update!
We sold our home on 30th Jan and we are still no nearer to exchange/completion! Both sides of our chain have contacted us to ask why things are so delayed and wanting the process to be sped up!
Seems like GBL are happy to sit doing nothing and raising customers blood pressure by avoiding simple jobs. Communication is the easiest way to deal with problems and they are useless!
I would avoid GBL at any cost! Clearly they won’t be happy to wait 5+ months before they’re paid there statement at completion so why should we be made to wait this long to complete?!
GORDON BROWN LAW
GORDON BROWN LAW.
Parttisons get their sellers to use them saying the best. What a joke.
If you are selling or buying a house
1) never go by the recommendation of your estate agent cos they get paid for you using them and worse when things go wrong they hide it from you like say Gordon Brown Solicitors not communicating with the other solicitor. And the buyer pulling out because of that. They will never tell you cos they recommend theis company that should be shut down but financial Ombudsman for ghosting sellers and most of their positive reviews are from people who have ever left only one review. Go and check and do your due diligence. On Google or how they made another account on Turstpilot with their name this time than initials so people won't see the heap of negatives.
Worst Experience ever

Never Again
Truly useless
Truly useless. Am on my third conveyancer in 3 months. I'm not in a chain, my buyer is chain free and we're 4 months in. Sold my house at beginning of March. Charles Garland is my conveyancer, I didn't choose Gordon Brown, I used Purplebricks as my agents as was allocated Gordon Brown. Charles has emailed twice in 4 months and I've had to chase everything.
A really poor experience
A really poor experience, avoid them at all costs, they have trainee solicitors with not enough supervision, and they are rude at times inc the vetting team, it seems they have too many files to deal with and do not keep on top of your file, so the sale and purchase took longer than it should of. No stars, avoid avoid, avoid, recommend from Purple Bricks, which says it all
27/7/23 - To add to the ordeal - they have just advised me that my bill is incorrect - Wow
Had a poorly written trust agreement…
Had a poorly written trust agreement from this company, now getting sent round the houses as apparently that section of the company is in administration. Go elsewhere and find a more reputable firm.
The worst customer experience I have ever had to endure.
We were assigned Gordon Brown Law as part of our all-inclusive package with Purple Bricks for a seemingly straightforward property transaction. We were selling our property to a chain-free first time buyer, and buying a property in which nobody was living, so was also chain free. Offers were accepted and mortgages approved in April 2022, and things seemed to be moving quickly in terms of ordering searches etc.
Our assigned conveyancer was Casey Osborne, and over the months we got to know her supervisor Craig Foot and their Head of Conveyancing, Geoff Hall.
While the prices Gordon Brown Law advertise, or as part of Purple Bricks' all-inclusive deal seem attractive -- I guarantee it is not worth the aggravation of having to deal with them. They demonstrated incompetence and coldness at the most pivotal moments in our transaction, with multiple standoffs within the chain, and indeed with ourselves.
To share one example -- Casey Osborne misinterpreted the law, asking our vendor and freeholder to enact a Deed of Variation to include a clause that turned out to be unnecessary, costing the vendor £1000+ and adding around 7 weeks to the process. Once this unnecessary step was complete (waiting the entire 7 weeks), she had the audacity to raise more enquiries that put the entire transaction on hold, with impossible solutions such as "purchasing the freehold" or "another deed of variation, requiring the permission of all leaseholders in the property".
We do understand there are legal requirements solicitors must fulfil to their clients and lenders, however the timeframe in which Casey raised enquiries was ludicrous. Even the vendor's solicitors questioned their behaviour at multiple points.
Through significant effort between myself, our agent, and our vendor (minimal effort from Gordon Brown Law), we were able to research legal solutions and find proof of what was required to get the sale over the line, one working day before our mortgage offer expired.
It was also almost impossible to contact Casey. She was never available when you called, and simply ignored emails. The transaction got so messy following an email I sent which highlighted their potential negligence at multiple points, in part failing to raise enquiries in a reasonable timeframe, Geoff Hall (Head of Conveyancing) took over the file from Casey. To be fair to him, Geoff was significantly easier to contact, and provided solutions when we asked. Though this essentially is the minimum any solicitor should do when they are representing you.
As a whole, Gordon Brown misinterpreted the law, misrepresented timeframes to me when I questioned them, were never contactable, were woody in their position towards multiple complex issues, and downright incompetent -- to the point they calculated our completion statement incorrectly by £500. I questioned Casey about this on the phone and she reassured me "No I have checked, that amount is correct." Then a month after completion I receive an email: "We have £500 on account for you". Honestly it is beggar's belief this company is operating.
Gordon Brown Law caused my partner and myself significant stress and anxiety over 7 months, making us unwell at times. I am relieved to never have to deal with them again, and urge you not to instruct them for your residential transaction.
Terrible attitude and response
Terrible attitude and response. Avoid!!
Having completed on the agreed date for a for 28 day completion, we were unable to obtain the keys due to the lack of response from this firm.
The vendors agent could not release the keys to us without written permission from Gordon Brown Law Firm. Gordons law firm not responding. This is their only function at this stage. Many telephone calls and several emails later, the only response I received was for one Gordon Brown agent to hang up! No email response and no keys.
The result the weekend we had planned for our build team to go in and start clearing the place out is lost.
This lawyer should have sent an email the minute we completed, instead they did nothing nor did they respond to repeated requests from the vendors agent or the many phone calls throughout the day.
Complete fail. They should be in government!
Truly terrible service - no communication
Truly terrible service - should have listened to the reviews but it seemed worth the risk as the price quoted is low...thats because the service you receive is very poor. We were told repeatedly that it was not their policy to communicate with their clients. If you don't mind how long your purchase/sale takes or to be kept in the loop meanwhile then it is a very competitive price. If however you would like to be kept informed go anywhere else. Not once was I even allowed to talk directly to the solicitor supposedly dealing with my case! Cannot recommend.
Rubbish
I put a review on previously and it’s disappeared . Would just like to agree with the majority here. The worst service I have ever received.8 months to exchange. Samantha Smith is useless. Please avoid!!.
I put a review on here on the 24…
I put a review on here on the 24 February. This firm are acting for my buyer. 6 weeks later still not much happening! Be warned.
Used this solicitor couple of times in…
Used this solicitor couple of times in the past but currently buying another house and the process has been going on since November. We are into April now and this has still not be completed. Multiple emails and phone calls, over 20 minutes hold on the phone and not got decency to response to any of the emails or even a correspondence email to say we have received your email and we will get back to you when ever. If you are looking to sell your property or buying one look for some other solicitor otherwise you would be complaining like myself after few months. AVOID❌❌❌
Incompetent service
This company was acting for our sellers in our recent purchase and were shockingly bad, which delayed completion on what should have been a simple transaction and made things far more stressful than they had to be. Our solicitors did not even receive the contract pack until a month after our offer was accepted because they misspelled our solicitor's email address. Then at every step of the way they made a mistake or failed to respond or answer queries in a timely fashion. I had a strong impression that there was not one individual responsible for the case, and that there was no way for our sellers, agent or own solicitor to speak directly to the person handling the case. At a crucial final stage the individual who had been handling some of the enquiries left the company with no notice, failing to tell our solicitor or hand over to the next person. And, to top it off, after we agreed the completion date they failed to draw down our seller's funds on time meaning that we could not exchange until the very last moment, forcing a simultaneous exchange and completion at 4pm on a Friday. During the days running up to the planned completion date instead of behaving professionally the company simply chose to ignore my solicitor's attempts to get in touch about exchange. Terrible service - they were part of Purple Bricks' panel of solicitors for their MyHomeMove offer - be very wary when using this or if the other party in the transaction is using the same firm.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Horrific service. We have been trying to sell a home with them to a 1st time buyer. It’s been 6 months and we are no closer to moving. They are beyond useless, no one responds to messages, no one can answer questions. They haven’t got a clue what they are doing and every time we think it’s sorted they realise they haven’t done something else.
Like everyone else here - AWFUL
If I could give them zero I would. So far I'm 15 weeks into a house move with these cowboys, looks like I'm still going to be here at week 600. You get NO COMMS from these conveyancers, when I complained I got no response other than a 'don't tell me tell this person email'. Some of the things I complained about where - A portal went down which caused a 3 week 'pause' on the system and no one chased it, Angela Hall was extremely rude and only really cares about the money at the end. Here's an extract from the email I sent: I do feel that the efficiency of the service is extremely poor, for example, two weeks have gone by since the local search was received and when I called no one had bothered to action getting it off the portal or look into why they couldn’t get it, thus holding up the process.
Your response time to emails is non-existent. I will be surprised if I even get a response to this email. There has been no communication as to how far through the process we are, estate agents and my mortgage broker have had to badger you for information and even then it is quite old.
In addition, I’ve sent emails that have answered your questions and then a few days later you ask me the question again and again no acknowledgment of receipt.
The people you ring simply 'refer' on and really do nothing.
Really awful service, really, there are better law firms out there so don't accept the referral in this case from purple bricks (who weren't much better).
I've moved house several times over the years and never had this bother. But don't worry we might actually move in 2193. Hahaha. Really awful, don't use.
Worst law firm i had to deal with!
Absolutely terrible customer service, cancelled services and than ignored my emails and phone calls about refund, had to contact my credit card provider and also filed a case against this law firm.
If there was a 0 rating I’d give it
If there was a 0 rating I’d give it.
This company is acting on behalf of our vendor. We have no chain at all and we are into week 16 with no sign of anything moving forward. Communication is horrendous. They ignore emails and calls - even from our solicitor! AVOID. They’ve caused us incomprehensible stress.
Very poor firm
Very poor firm. They acted for the sellers on my house purchase which ended up taking 6 months due to the slow response time from GBLF among other factors. Was essentially a minimum 2 week response time from them no matter how small the query from my solicitors. Do not use this firm.
Nearly 6 months to sell a house??
Worst solicitors going onto week 22 of selling my house and week 12 of buying not even in a chain and I have had to just about get all the Information back to them that they required. I am very lucky my buyers are very understanding. Do not touch these solicitors absolute rubbish don’t know how they are still doing business.
GBLF Conveyancing
GBLF conveyancing were recommended to me. However, the lawyer I was assigned took so long to act that the buyer's solicitor had to write to him to prompt a response. He lost information I had sent him. He returned only one of my >15 calls. He rarely replied to the numerous emails I sent and charged more than was outlined in the quote.
