**Hippobag: Fill like a skip? Well… sort of.**
I was an idiot, READ THE SMALL PRINT!
Like so many people before me, I thought, *“Ah, that’s a good idea — a nylon skip. What a brilliant idea.”*
So I purchased a Hippobag, from Wickes (I Iike Wickes)got it home, and then actually read the small print.
**1.5 tonnes maximum.**
**25% maximum fill with earth and rubble.**
So that’s not really *“fill like a skip”* at all, is it?
Then I actually sat down and worked out the cost, and had a bit of a paddy.
A Chambers **4 cu yd skip**: **£230**, with no weight limit advertised. Obviously, if you filled it with a lump of lead, I’m sure they might have something to say — but for normal building and garden waste, that’s a different proposition.
4 cu yd is approximately **3 cubic metres**.
The Hippobag **Big Bag (L)** is:
**210cm × 165cm × 100cm = approximately 3 cubic metres**
Price: **£336.**
So, roughly the **same volume**, but the Hippobag costs **£106 more**, and you’re limited to **1.5 tonnes**, with earth and rubble restricted to **25% of the bag**.
I’ll give Hippobag credit for one thing, though. Their customer service/management team actually had the bottle to phone me after something I posted and put me right on a point. It turns out I paid for the middle size bag £237 (+-) and I should have paid £300 (+-)
They were very polite about it, I’ll give them that.
But having now looked properly at the numbers and the restrictions, I’m afraid my initial *“what a good idea!”* has turned into more of a **“hang on a minute…” or never again.**

We completely understand that HIPPOBAG won’t be the right solution for every type of project. The weight and waste restrictions are there for safety and operational reasons, and we do our best to make these clear when customers purchase a bag so they can choose the right solution for their waste.
One of the main benefits of HIPPOBAG is the flexibility it offers compared with a traditional skip, you can buy the bag when you need it, fill it at your own pace, and arrange collection when you're ready, without needing a skip delivered to your property or taking up a fixed amount of space for the duration of your project.
That said, we’re sorry the product hasn’t worked out for your particular project. We genuinely appreciate the feedback, including the detail you've provided, as it helps us understand where we can make the product and its pricing clearer for customers.

Highly unreliable and unusable for a…
Highly unreliable and unusable for a project or site, do not trust their ratings. Delays in collection which is advertised as 90% likely in 3 days and 100% in 5 days. We are on day 6 of their collection and they are not coming for another 4 days. Useless, costing me money and they’re already a rip off.

Our advertised collection times are based on the likelihood of collection within those timeframes, rather than a guaranteed service window. That said, waiting six days for a collection, with a further four days quoted, clearly falls short of the experience we want our customers to have.

Quick delivery and quick and convenient collection. The mega bag was placed in the small front garden, we live in a terraced street, and was collected from the roadside by lifting it over the wall and pavement. No need for a skip/permit.

Hippo bag takes the hassle out of waste disposal
Ordered online and our Hippo bag arrived in the post. We chose this as we wanted to make sure there was no damage to our driveway (which we would expect from a metal skip). Prepaid the collection so we had six months to get it filled up and our collection booked. It was really easy to set out and the paperwork that came with it made it very clear what could and what couldn’t go in there. Once it was full we booked collection online and it said they would pick up within 5 days. Received a call 2 days later from a friendly driver who was on the way to collect and wanted to make sure everything was ok and his access was clear. He parked up and very skillfully manoeuvred his crane arm into position and picked up the bag with ease (avoiding a hedge, tree and lamppost). Great service, much easier and less hassle than having a regular skip. Would definitely use again.
