They used to be such a good, no-nonsense domain registrar. Apparently they recently got sold and under the new ownership, they've hiked the prices up massively. And simultaneously they seem to have cut down a lot of the support and technical staff.

Case in point: I keep on running into fundamental technical issues at their end when trying to move some of my domains out from them, and after a full week haven't heard anything back from them. Which is totally unacceptable for a service that deals with people's & companies online identities. And also completely against their own statements of usually getting back in 24h the latest.

To be honest, at this stage I'm worried they're somehow gonna eff up my domain at their end even more, given the current state of things… for now I'm just stuck with them but at least my domain is operational, but who knows for how long if they seem to lack basic technical maintenance capabilities.

Even though I had to wait almost a month, I had a great experience communicating with the support team. I had forgotten to renew my domain, and after receiving about 20 emails from them, letting me know that the domain will be deleted, I inadvertently allowed it to be deleted.

When I received a confirmation from my bank that their email wasn’t reaching me, I realized that my domain was the problem.

I reached out to the support team at iwantmyname, and they offered to try and recover my name. However, since it was outside their usual timeframe, it would be quite expensive.

Since I couldn’t afford the cost, they suggested that I keep refreshing the search and try to do it at least a couple of times every day until the name reappeared. After about 20 days, it did.

It was my fault for forgetting to renew my domain. Despite this, the support team was professional and informative, and they provided me with all the options available.

It took a while for me to be able to update my credit card. The system kept rejecting my CCV. After several attempts, it finally worked and I could renew my subscription to my URL.

The registry called me unsolicited to verify my request, and said there was a $3000 additional free for "premium domains". I submitted a support case about it a couple days ago and haven't heard anything about it. My card was charged but I still don't have a domain, and I think it's a little weird I'm getting calls directly from the registry and telling me about fees that weren't disclosed during my registration.

The system of keeping track of my own email name url works seamlessly and inexpensively to keep track of MY own url where I publish my photo blog. I had quite a burp in keeping track of my blog only because of severe family illness and a cross country move. I am settled in and cannot wait to start taking photos again and I still am able to post my blogs again.
