Every stage of the assessment and the cataract operation went very well, and I am very pleased with the results. My only criticism would be on the admin side. I had to chase them to start the assessment process going after the initial appointment - nothing serious, they just dropped the ball. I also had to challenge the cost initially quoted, based on my reading of the pricing info on their website. The person dealing with the payment was not familiar with all the options, and would have charged me £500 more if I had not challenged them.

The pre and post operative care has been second to none.
Unbelievably good.

Efficient, pre surgery, and post as to booking, advice and so forth.
The surgery has provided me with a new lease of life. Quite unbelievable not to have glasses and to be able see how things looked to me when i was a child, for that is what you get! And I have had only one eye done. The other awaits.

The only problem I found, was the long wait at my initial assessment appointment. I wasn’t informed of this delay on arrival and had to ask twice how long I would need it o wait.

Cataract surgery
On Feb 23rd and Mar 23rd 2026 I had cataract surgery on my both eyes, as a NHS referral.From start to finish the experience was very professional but with a real human touch. From the receptionist, nurses to the surgeon a real example of how to make patients feel at ease, everything explained at each stage with all questions answered clearly and professionally.

I had cataracts in both eyes that needed replacing. I also had astigmatism in both eyes. After careful research I chose Optegra eye care based at Bowcliffe Hall.
I am now in the happy position to recommend Optegra, having had the surgery to replace both lenses. The whole team at Optegra could not have been more helpful. Answering all my questions of which there were many. I must mention my surgeon James Ball. He was fantastic. Very personable. Explained the procedure before the surgery. Then during the surgery he talked me through the process putting me at ease. I am so pleased I had the operation . I now have 20/20 vision.
