I used this removals company for our move from UK to UAE on the recommendation of a friend who had used them a few years ago. Unfortunately, our experience has been very disappointing and checking reviews on trustpilot now reveals that the service has gone downhill in the last couple of years, John is an excellent salesman and made me very comfortable but unfortunately it has been nothing than a smart sales pitch. On the day of the move, I did not even receive a call from John despite being assured that we will receive calls to check the progress of the move. I was naive to fall into the trap of paying by online transfer rather than using a credit card on the pretext of working from home due to Covid! Quite a few of our items were damaged and a box went missing. The insurance company they use is third party and a complete con company. I was not informed that this is a third-party that they will be using. It has been almost 8 months and the claim has not been processed, there are just back and forth emails asking us to prove the cost of items in the claim. The insurance company is RCS and Removal Claims Service, trading names of Basil E. Fry & Co. Limited - their reviews on trustpilot tell a story (rather a nightmare). I definitely recommend not to use this company anymore though it seems they were a good and reputable company in the past, they must ditch the insurance company to maintain their old glory days….

Professional service, helpful single point of contact to manage our move and provide specific advice on packing, storage, and shipping. Packing and moving team were fast, careful with our belongings, and had a positive attitude. Honest company as well: we received a refund because our estimated volume was less than the actual volume. Used Simpsons for the first time to ship some furniture and other items to our secondary home in Austria. From the first inquiry, to explanations re process/required documents to packing, moving and delivering the items - everything was easy, efficient and well organised. Any questions i had were always answered. Can definitely recommend their service and would use again!

So here is my story!
I talked a lot to John on the phone who was friendly and knowledgeable and I felt in good hands. He was upfront with the struggle of not having enough drivers plus Brexit so I knew what we were getting into.
He also informed me that I would have to organise and pay for a special parking permit on our end at that I have to do so at least one week ahead of time and he will give me a heads up for that.
On the day itself, two very nice men showed up and were done within an hour. We packed all of the boxes but not the frames and furniture and the guys did that for us.
I had so sign an online form and when I pointed out that it says we packed everything but that's not true, the older of the two guys waved it off and mumbled something under his breath. We work from home so my focus was on getting every done and sorted as quickly as possible so I signed without thinking any of it.
From now on I was in contact with Lisa, who was equally friendly as John. Less knowledgeable (at least it felt like she was more insecure in providing information) but friendly non the less.
I did have the feeling that I needed to remind her more than once that we need an one week heads up for the parking permission and she reassured me, that she will do it.
She didn't! ( I know, what a plot twist!) Friday afternoon around 4pm she wrote me an email that "good news" my stuff will be delivered the coming Tuesday...
How on earth should I have gotten around to getting a parking permit I would have to request at least 5 working days ahead and which I have to set up 24hours before the deliver with only one working day heads up.
Oh well, I shrugged it off since technically it's not my problem.
The two guys that delivered out possessions were friendly yet unprepared. No check list (yet I made one myself) and their English and German wasn't really good enough to communicate properly - but they were friendly.
Loads of boxes were dented, boxes we labelled with "FRAGILE" were put on the ground and other boxes were put on top of it and everything smelled damp.
We contacted PSS removals and Simpsons International and raised that several items were broken beyond repair and some damaged. They forwarded us to a company held by Basil E. Fry & Co. Limited (look them up on Trustpilot! We should have if we knew they were involved) because we paid £200 to insure our possession.
I make it short for you since you are reading since a while and probably wondering why I give Simpsons just a bad rating:
-first they claimed we packed it so they don't insure it. (why take our money when the initial list claims everything has been packed by us?)
- we could proof that we didn't pack all of it and the cabinet that was damaged was repacked by DHL (oh right, I forgot to mention that Simpsons forgot a cabinet and had to send it separately)
- so then they come back and say "okay, cool, but you didn't say on your initial form that this cabinet exists so it's not insured [fair statement, I accept that]" but they will give us £50 but unfortunately, to do that they would have to charge us £100 oO

Seriously, I am so annoyed with that insurance company Simpsons chooses to work with. They know how bad they are. They know the bad reviews and still choose to tell people to insure with them.
I would have given Simpsons a 3 star rating because they forgot parts of our stuff, didn't communicate as well as they could have, and they broke stuff but overall, it was an okay move and definitely worth 3 stars.

The insurance company however was the final straw to not be happy with them at all!

Simpsons were so helpful in our very convoluted move.

We were moving from London to Rhode Island in the United States, but also have a home in Ireland to which we wanted to move things. To make things more complicated, we also had some items in storage from a previous move. Those items were packed in crates and the storage was in Suffolk. We wanted to remove some items from those crates and send them to Ireland and have Simpsons move the rest to Rhode Island.

The packers spent three days in our London home. Robert, Mark, and Andy were amazing. They were extremely professional; efficient and quick, yet taking great care with everything they wrapped. They were friendly and enjoyable, but most of the time I would not have even known they were there! They made the whole process unexpectedly stress free!

We had the same experience when, on a separate day, Simpsons met us at the Suffolk storage facility. Their staff was so nice and helpful and at the same time quick, but careful.

Simpsons is pretty much everything you could ask for in a moving company when you have a complex move. Pretty sure, they would also more than fit the bill for a straightforward move.

Plus, their prices were very competitive. We cannot say enough good things about them!

John Moynes took the stress out of our move from UK to North of Portugal in September 2021. He took on full accountability and was present and proactive throughout the whole process with excellent communication throughout. They weren t the cheapest nor the most expensive either - John really knows what he is doing and navigated the whole post Brexit customs process really well. I would not hesitate to recommend or use again. We were not present in the UK when the move happened and it went brilliantly well.
Thanks again for taking the stress out of the move - we knew you had our back!

They don’t know what they are doing! Stay away from this company!
We moved from Glasgow (UK) to Bergen (Norway). PSS removals and Simpsons International agreed to pick up our effects on the 13th of August 2021. Several emails and calls later we discovered that our load had been sitting in a depot in Edinburgh for 6 six weeks, it was then transported to London and then to the Netherlands for customs clearance. This is what they say, as I am yet to receive a tracking number, delivery date and the address of the depot in which our effects are stored just now. Of course they have requested full pay in advance for a service that clearly they can’t provide! Appalling!

Simpsons was amazing to work with through our move to Norway! We would 100% recommend them - they were very thoughtful and thorough as well as kind during a very challenging and stressful time.
