Absolutely terribly company. I was with them for an unsteady and trouble filled year but i hardly touched the website (because i didn't know what i was doing!) so decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and i only paid £100. Once i renewed with them. Big mistake! I continued to have the same problems i had for the previous year only this time i was promised light at the end of the tunnel! If i paid them even more money on top of the £99 renewal fee i would get a mobile optimised website where i could load up my own banner and it would generally be a lot better to use with less bugs and would look more professional. With the bonus of them adding some of my items for me! Again the second i parted with my cash i was left to it, the carousel and featured products stopped working 4 times, the template i uploaded wouldn't work or wouldn't quite fit. Once i uploaded my own banner the pictures i had to represent my categories did not fit into some boxes that appeared out of no where, i dont get alerts to my email when someone purchases something, i keep having to upload product pictures over and over again because they don't show up, they won't upload as the same size so some of my product photos are bigger than others even though on my computer there all the same size, i can't copy a picture from a link so i dont even know why that option is there! My description on some products has randomly decided to over lap the featured products, i dont even know how that is possible! And just an endless list of nitty horrible problems that made the website look rubbish, it still looks rubbish to this day and am ashamed of sending my customers there.
As a small business i cant afford the time, effort or money it has cost to keep ringing them up and reporting fault after fault.
The worse part is whenever i have tried to take the bull by the horns and speak to one of their technical support team i just get a grumpy sounding person (i deleted the original word i typed here!) who basically tries to make me feel stupid because the website wont work or the cache need deleting or the pictures didn't upload correctly, or i cant do what i want to do as it costs more money!
And to top it off when i asked to speak to a member of management i just got another person (again had to delete the original word i used to describe their staff!) on the phone again trying to sell me more upgrades for another £400 which i quote " You would kick yourself if the newer packages were around when you first paid for the upgrad!" I paid for the upgrad less than 12 months ago so how bad does a company have to be to keep updating their templates and packages because and i quote again " I am one of many customers who had problems with the package i purchased!"
I am kicking myself because i wasted more time and money paying for an upgraded package that has never worked has even more issues with it then the basic package i had and in order to get a decent website i have to pay even more!
I have been offered no compensation, no explanation or even future help with my website.
The worst website provider there is and i would not recommend this company to any hard working small company who needs a little help and a friendly attitude!

From a dinosaur to 2015
From a person whose only experience of a 'keyboard' was piano lessons when I was 6 years old freestart did exactly what they said they would,quite refreshing in this day and age took all the hassle away and produced what I wanted and you can actually talk to a person,wonderful.I would recommend them to anyone.

Much better service
After a few initial problems I have received a fantastic service from Freestart.
I have worked closely with Janette to build both our websites & cannot thank her enough. It has not been the easiest task due to other companies making the changeover very difficult but Janette has persevered making it as smooth as possible with as little disruption to myself & my busy schedule but keeping me informed the whole time.
I am extremely pleased with the finished results & would not hesitate to recommend the company.

Out of date Support documentation lead to frustrating experience
I needed to implement a form on a website hosted by Freestart.
It is not unreasonable to expect a website host to support Form processing.
It is not unreasonable to expect Freestart support documentation to provide the information a web developer needs to implement a form.
In my opinion, it IS unreasonable to be told by the Freestart support team that the information given in their support documentation, on the "Send Email From Forms (FTP Sites)" page is "7 or 8 years out of date, should have been taken down", and that I should go onto google to find out how to implement a form. The whole process has been incredibly frustrating. It has now been resolved and my form does work.

Unacceptable
I would like to advise people of this company before you sign up . Ask for terms and conditions they messed up my app by adding my details to another salon in the area as the gave the job to a junior web designer . The app has gone live with the wrong name and I can't even check it out as I'm on a iPhone and dos most people . I was told I would Recieve the qr code which I still haven't recieved . If anyone has been successful on cancelation please let me know so I can make sure they don't go charging me again . I would rather find someone who will keep my app up to date I don't mind changing things to keep it fresh but actually getting on the page helps . Be warned

Still not happy
Ok so last year I have them a go at SEO (this time last year)... Nothing was done until I started complaining in December... Now June 2016 it has come time to renew?!!! Wow a full year already. Funny how the report you provide only shows an upturn from January... So now I'm having the same conversations lack of communication still a big problem (unless they want money) and I am this time trying to pin down a contract with clear expectations of the work I am going to receive... Not happy paying for a full year SEO when clearly this has not happened!
Update,,, Had some good service from them since... they have worked on my comments and applied them.
2019 update, just pulled them up on invoicing early again.

I have been a client of Freestart for around 15 years and I have always had a great service and during the past few years they have been growing whilst still providing a great service.
My accounts Manageress Jessica Murdock contacted me regarding a new web site launched and I deci to try it, through out Jessica was in touch to keep me up to date whilst the design team were preparing my site, can not fault the service 100% thanks Jessica.
My Design lady Katanya Simm was fantastic & worked very hard on a very complexed web site & has designed it to perfection and was in constant touch to keep me fully up to date.
I had to do very little work as Katanya took all the stress away & constantly came up with ideas which was great, I provide a typed up description which she worked on providing a 100% service.
My web site has also been finished 1 week earlier than the date I requested which is going live this week.
I can't say anything else apart from thanks very much to the Freestart team, Jessica & Katanya.

For months I couldn't login to my control panel because when Freestart set it up they made a mistake in my email address which was meant to be my username. After having the password reset numerous times I told them to check that the email address was correct as that was the only other reason there could be for me not being able to login. Hey presto it wasn't correct. After they corrected the email address I was finally able to login and set up the app. When I and various friends downloaded it to our devices there is a problem with how the home page image shows up. Only a maximum of a quarter of the logo shows up on the home page on my phone and on a tablet it's only the bottom segment. As the home page is the first page that potential customers are likely to see it is totally unprofessional and unfit for the purpose. On the 23rd Dec. 14 I received this in my last email from support "I have spoken to our development team who have advised they will be rolling out a fix in the new year for these types of issue" I wrote after this asking when I had to cancel the automatic renewal by and haven't received a reply. It's now the end of February and no fix as far as I'm aware the app displays just as badly on my phone.
I checked my bank this morning and found that the automatic renewal has gone out and when I spoke to Freestart they told me I had to cancel 10 weeks before the renewal date and it was in the terms and conditions. They say they won't refund me. On checking through my paperwork and all the emails I don't have any terms and conditions. So basically I've spent £180 on an App that is totally useless.
Since I wrote this I've attempted to find terms and conditions online on their website and through the app control panel and knowledge base and not been able to find anything that relates to how much notice one has to give. To me the fact that I have tried to find the terms and conditions and can't find them is sharp practice along with no email reminders before taking the renewal payment and taking it so far in advance of the renewal date. I've also had an email from tech support which I haven't replied to as yet because the last line annoyed me so much.
"Just to keep you posted, I have had a follow up conversation with development team about the issues that you are still having with the mobile app. At the moment we are still in discussions on how we can fix this issue. I apolgise for the inconvenience this is causing."

7 weeks before renewal and they wont let me cancel and taken my money!!
I have alot of issues with free start. They are selling me products and services i dont need or cant use. I expect them to give me honest advice instead i feel im getting taken for a mug. I have just had yet another invoice telling me they have taken £120 from my account for a mob. app. i didnt even need or had even put it to use. I thought it was my mob. website charge last year. So its due either 19 or 25 of March. They have taken the money out on the 2 Feb with no email or anything to let me know they were just taking the money. I rang to ask what an app. was to be told i was supposed to put it on my website, no one advised me. I work with animals not sit in front of a computer!. I said i do not want to re new as i hadnt even used the last one to be told i could not cancel as it had already been taken for. I am contacting trading standards and Which! tomorrow as they have taken £120 6 to 7 weeks before its due and wont let me cancel.
I think this is diabolical and im sure i can go to some ombudsman/complaints authority about it.
I have paid up front till 2017 for my website but dont know if i will continue.
The tech team,especially Stuart have been very helpful in the past, im just not happy with the sales side always giving you duff info or confusing you with techno babble. They should have a bit more integrity and not sell services not required by their customers.

All is good now!
July 2020 I stuck with them and they have help me along with my website and promo, only thing to watch is payment they are keen to get them in earlier and earlier so keep an eye on due dates. Otherwise all is good now thanks guys.

I have received three calls within the last 2-3 months from this company two trying to sell me something... the third seeing how i am getting on... SEO.... what on earth am I paying for? not seen any benefit so far and we are 6 months down the line... Am i expecting too much for them to recognise that some key word dont work and CHANGE THEM or give me a call about them,,, not a general call how are you doing.... i have told all three people that i am unhappy and they all said they would look into it.. today i do a ticket, so we will see what happens....
oh yes and i had to change my password again before i could get in the site,,,, guy's this is rubbish service not worth a quarter of my discounted cost. edited in Jan 2016. can't go down to zero stars!

This company is joke. I bought phone app for one year because next year it should be 3 times more. Final product is rubish but I give it try. After 10 months the app was not in use because customers were scared to download it and use because its not like app you can download with one click. They charge me for another year( which i never agree or sign for reneval) I call them next day I found money gone from account. I was told somebody will call me after 3 months calling them and listening how they were calling me I finaly reach accounts department with answer I should send written cancelation. Hmm so it take you 3 months to telling me that I should cancel it when I still have time. Instead of that you wait 3 months and I cant do anything else now? The customer center lie to my every time I call them that somebody called but I wasnt available. This is one big joke company try to avoid and save money and time dealing with these people.

I have had a Freestart website now for many years and am pleased with the service I get on the phone when I call. Since changing to a mac and doing a little more frequent updates to my website this does seem to be more often as there seems to be less compatibility with some tasks which need to be resolved, however happy with the folks I am speaking to when I hit an obstacle !
