Wow ,what can you say ,I wouldn't give it one .booked train to London with friends ,wembley special only to find we didn't have seats .on the onwards journey .friend didn't realise when he booked .stood with many others for three plus hours .here's a idea don't sell tickets if you don't have seats ,specially knowing people booked from hull to London .
Journey home was unreal ,had half a dozen carriages ,even when in the morning well over double that .
Literally 'Rammed' people stood shoulder to shoulder down the aisles some people couldn't handle been stood up three hours , literally sat on the floor between the aisles .some wouldn't even go to the toilet because you could hardly move .
Just got home from Canada ,(what a brilliant system they have too ,)
Our train cancelled ,got on a another hull train ,packed ,only to be told we shouldn't of got this one ,but a later one .
"don't we worry we won't charge you this time round" .lol
Wow ,thank you ,how grateful we should be eh? .we were in corridor between the carriages sat on our suitcases .shocking service worst train service we've used .never again .

I booked through LNER a journey from Boston to London Kings Cross, travelling part way with Hull Trains for yesterday - 22nd July. I was informed by LNER by text that the Hull Trains portion of the journey was cancelled due to strike action - the cancelled journey was due to depart at 12:02. I had to buy another ticket to travel from Grantham to London Kings X as my Hull Trains ticket was not valid. That train was due to depart at 12:09. I have today received an email from Hull Trains advising that my delay/repay claim was unsuccessful as my train left on time! That level of incompetence is worrying and ensures that I will avoid Hull Trains from now on. You know your trains did not run yesterday and at what time and from where, yet you are content to keep money for a service you did not provide. Really?

Booked tickets through trainline from Selby to Heathrow to catch a flight. Allowed plenty of time. Due to strike action by drivers our train was cancelled and the following train was 5 hours later which was too late. Had to book an alternative journey from York. Trainline say speak to Hull trains. Hull trains say speak to Trainline. Through no fault of our own we are left out of pocket. Certainly won't use them again.

Hull train cancellation from Doncaster - London. Advised to buy an LNER ticket at the window and was told I can reclaim the original on a repay scheme and the difference of the walk-up, more than twice the price of the booked train. I photographed the info that was provided by the station regarding claims from a Hull Trains address but Hull, even online, try to bounce you back to 'the operator that sold you the ticket' so this is very muddled advice at all steps. Plus they require 20-28 days before claims or complaints can be addressed, which is a long time if you have unreliable info to untangle before trying to actually claim at all. Unable to get through to the CS team on the phone, and again, their system seems very eager to put you through to the Trainline instead of interacting... Have had to enquire with LNER whether it is them who I need to be dealing with after all. Very disappointing any way you turn, and a lot of time to get nowhere yet in terms of assistance. I won't be using again, which is a shame as the long distance routes are ideal for me.

I have had a number of cancellations. The latest one meant I had to rebook on Hull Trains which was expensive last minute. As I had reused the same company, their excuse was that I was not eligible for a refund. This company does not care about its customers, is greedy and provides a poor service. DO NOT USE THIS TRAIN COMPANY. How they get away with it boggles the mind. Again, DO NOT USE THIS TRAIN COMPANY.

Expensive, overbooked, understaffed. Another disappointing journey. Too many bookings so people standing in ailse etc. Travelled from kings cross to Beverley, From an hour into a 3 hour journey all staff dissappear, the food trolley came round at the beginning of the journey then never seen again. I think it's so bad that you can't get a drink unless you get one at the 1st (and only) trolley service. No rubbish collection the whole journey either. We paid extra for the direct service to Beverley, won't bother again.

This company deserve to go bankrupt. They delay you for hours, tell you that you are entitled to a full refund and then make it impossible to claim. Spent an hour going around and around in circles.

UTTERLY HOPELESS.....
The 08:52 Retford-Doncaster service is cancelled almost every day now, causing me a delay of almost 2 hours (so I have to go and take a 55 minute bus journey instead).
The 13:27 Doncaster-Retford service is cancelled almost every day now, causing me a delay of over an hour (again, meaning I must take a 55 minute bus journey).
I am delayed over an hour each way, every day, by Hull Trains.
I get that there is industrial action, but why are you cancelling the same trains every day?

Respuesta de Hulltrains
My friend and I were travelling home from London Kings Cross. On our way home our train was cancelled mid way through so we had to get off at Doncaster. We have to wait an hour to get on another train home, it’s very late and no helpful staff barely any compensation. This is appalling DON’T TRAVEL WITH HULL TRAINS!!!!

Travelling back from Kings Cross Wednesday 23rd April 2025 1st Class was a disappointment. Was allocated an open aisle seat near the food trolley park. No adequate storage racks for large luggage in Coach L either on the Amy Johnson carriage. Poor, expect better provision for booking in advance by 3 months. Would have saved money by booking Standard Class instead, which did have adequate storage and better privacy. Seems to defeat the point of having a 1st Class option anyway whose only advantage was complimentary lukewarm team and a sandwich.

I got a train from howden on the 17th April to kingscross.we got to just outside doncaster and was told there would be a delay as a trackside fire.was offered tea which was Luke warm.which as I was in first class I expected better.after about an hour we pulled into doncaster.and left sitting on the train.then told to change and go to shefield.then there was a change we were told to get a lner train to kingscross which took ages should have got to kingcross at 21.46.arrived at 00.04.no one at station to help.i got to Newbury park about 1.q5 am.no buses or taxis had to walk 4 miles home.i collapsed about a mile from home.someone called police and the took me home.all hull trains do is refund the cost of your train ticket.i did complain about the Luke warm yea was told there was no hotvwater

Train left on time so that was good but there was no space at all for luggage. We were then told by a snotty female staff member that we are bringing too much luggage on board and that they should be charging. She said with all her wisdom that an airline wouldn't provide space for the luggage we have. Well we just came from an airport with our four check-on suitcases which the airline were happy to accommodate (we were actually allowed 2 per person being a flight from Japan) and I think one person is standard. They charge enough for their tickets and the attitude from the staff was very disappointing and disrespectful.

Respuesta de Hulltrains
I found their staff very rude and obnoxious, one woman in particular. The response from the management was very poor too.

Was travelling from Woking to Sheffield. Which as usual with trains included going to Doncaster on route… But never have I had a worse experience with a company than Hull Trains. Left me stuck for almost three hours at London King’s cross and refused to let me on another train. Why companies cant work together I don’t know. Then went to the help desk twice to find the Hull Trains rep wasn’t there BOTH TIMES. Then when i made a complaint the response just left me with empty words. Really disappointed.

If a train journey needs to have a change due to a connection then if the 1st train is delayed then the 2nd train should WAIT.
It's a disgrace if the connecting train leaves when it is the connecting train.
An NO point in telling the Hull Station barrier staff as they just don't care they reply with - oh yes you are correct the train has left. No point in even having staff when 1 showing no empathy, an 2 standing chatting to each other whilst playing with their mobiles.

Respuesta de Hulltrains
This should really be a five star review, as its the railway stations that are at fault and not Hull trains.
Traveled from Doncaster to London Kings cross. Doncaster station has never been very good for this. There are no indications as to where trains will stop on a platform and all the trains I saw stopped in different places so we had to run the length of the platform with heavy cases to get to our carriage. Staff, what staff there were, had far more important buisiness than dealing with passengers, namely chatting with each other.
Kings Cross had been changed markedly since my last visit, and none of it for the better. Now that St Pancras has become a major international hub it would make sense to make it easier to get from one to the other with say a sky bridge, but no, access and exits at KX have got worse.
Now the good news, Hull trains are the reason this has 4 stars. There are bad points;
Limited service, only about 6 trains a day, if you miss yours because of delays to your previous train or the ever present road works (we fell foul of three sets en route but had set aside time to compensate) you have a long wait till the next one.
Linked to the above, if you miss your train you can not use your ticket on any other service. British train opperators do not honour each others train tickets even when it is their fault for missed connections. One of the many, many drawbacks to the sell off of British Rail.
Their upgrade service is clunky. They offer upgrade to first class if there are available seats for 30 pounds, but you have to apply on the train to a member of staff when you're on the train. This can mean walking the entire length of the train with heavy bags just on the off chance there are seats available.
Their website is a little clunky. Navigating for the information I needed was not stelar, but its a minor quibble.
Now the good points;
Hull trains is purely funded by the tickets they sell unlike all but one other opperator who all recieve massive subsidies from the government.
Their tickets are much cheaper than their rivals. I know, they arent subsidised but are often a quarter of the price of the other subsidized fellow opperators.
Beatiful, sleak, modern Hitachi trains. LNER, the main other opperator on this line appears to be using rolling stock dating back to the 1980's or even earlier, though they are still cleaner than many French SNCF trains. Extremely clean and comfortable even in second class (way better than many opperators first class compartments). The ride, even on Britains decrepid rails is silky smooth.
Their staff. By accent I would say they are all recruited from in and around Hull, which is one of the most deprived areas in Britain. Well done Hull trains for not only providing inexpensive tickets to your community but providing jobs too.
Again the staff because I found them all polite, helpful and very professional with only Eurostars staff impressing me more.
Trolley service. Limited range admittedly but it is at least provided which is more than many services provide even in first class. Again the staff were excellent.
Hull trains significant commitment to local charities and communities.
I feels almost guilty for docking a star as the train stations are not controlled by Hull trains and its not their staff that detract from the experience. Well done Hull trains, keep up the good work.

If I could give 6* to Hull Trains I would. We recently travelled to London. The return journey was delayed through no fault of Hull Trains because of an incident near Stevenage. They kept us constantly updated as we waited at King's Cross and got us back safely, albeit late. The guard on the train informed passengers that they could claim their fare back because of the late return [even though Hull Trains were not to blame]. We would not have realised this if the guard had not made it clear and we felt Hull Trains went far beyond what we could have expected. They are an excellent company, with clean, punctual trains - and provide a direct service from Beverley to King's Cross. We are most impressed - Hull Trains will continue to be our No 1 choice for travel to London. Many thanks!
